this is exactly what being a girl feels like
recurring dead wife flashback where it becomes increasingly apparent that the person remembering her has dishonestly claimed a romantic dynamic to their relationship that never actually existed and erased any conflict that ever existed between them now that she's no longer able to say no to them
dead wife flashback where each time we see her she looks more confused and upset by how she's remembered, then desperate and furious, until she's hammering on the glass screaming to be let out
this isn't how it happened. you know this isn't how it happened. but you still keep coming back, keep disturbing my grave so you can play out your fantasies. voyeurs crowding around my autopsy, straining for the best view; pawing through my entrails like grubby butchers trying to find some golden meaning in blood and shit because you can't bear to face the cold light of truth. you just can't bear the thought of never having really known me at all.
this is really how it feels

my fave greek history story to tell is that of agnodice. like she noticed that women were dying a lot during childbirth so she went to egypt to study medicine in alexandria and was really fucking good but b/c it was illegal for women to be doctors in athens she had to pretend to be a man. and then the other doctors noticed that she was 10x better than them and accused her of seducing and sleeping with the women patients. like they brought her to court for this. and she just looked at them and these charges and stripped in front of everyone likeĀ āyeah. im not fucking your wivesā and then they got so mad that a woman was better at their jobs then them that they tried to execute her but all her patients came to court and were likeĀ āare you fucking serious? she is the reason you have living children and a wife.ā so they were shamed into changing the law and that is how women were given the right to practice medicine in athens
Yeah, this isnāt some Greek myth story about a hero or demigod or something,Ā Agnodice was a real person who actually did this.
If you click on the wikipedia link in the last reblog, you will see that she most likely did not exist, actually. Wikipedia lists several reasons why that is probably true. Still, a story that has importance for women in medicine.

Your 20s are not about getting your life together they're about learning to escape the self imposed torture labyrinth you've built inside your own head
thinking fondly of this meme I made for a coworker years and years ago
this is going around again and the tags are full of people talking about printing it out to put in their breakroom or cubicle or sending it to their coworkers, which fills me with great joy. vast diversity of professions represented also. zoos. labs. summer camps. restaurants. garden centers. libraries. schools. many reports from the brave warriors of assorted retail. a truth universally acknowledged: if there is a sign a customer will not read it <3 and they don't read emails either <3
in monster world they have berries and cream but they call it SCARIES and SCREAM. one of many interesting little cultural differences

Absolutely obsessed with this map of Eurasian magpie distribution from Wikipedia which implies that the subspecies melanotos understands the concept of political borders.
