Zurine Akmaral.

Equivalent of 24. She/Her. Bisexual. High Elf. Light Cleric of Mielikki. Acolyte. Medium Armor. Shields. Sickles. Shadowheart Romance.

Born to a commune of Elves who lived in dedication to Mielikki deep in the High Forest. Though she has birth parents, Zurine was raised by a village more or less and regarded the other Elves of the commune as parents, uncles, aunts, siblings, family. When she was (the equivalent of) age 10, during a worship session at the temple, Zurine was possessed by an avatar of Mielikki. The Avatar, through Zurine, proclaimed her to be a Chosen of Mielikki and of a great destiny surrounding Zurine. It stated that Zurine had descended from the holy Unicorns of Mielikki and now her Unicorn blood would be apparent. When the Avatar departed, there was a vibrant flash of light. When it dimmed, the other Elves were amazed to find that Zurine now had a Unicorn horn upon her forehead. The temple elders took Zurine into their direct care and began instructing her on cleric magic and Mielikki's religious rites. After the possession by the Avatar, Zurine had acquired immense powers of the light cleric domain. Zurine threw herself completely and totally into her training. When Zurine was (the equivalent of) age 21 once again possessed by the Avatar, it declared that it was time for Zurine to leave the commune and seek her destiny. After a tearful good bye, Zurine left her home and began to wander Faerun. She sought to help people, uphold Mielikki's teachings, and to find whatever mysterious destiny she had been raised for. A few years later, her wandering brought her to Baldur's Gate and she had only been there for a day or two when the mind flayers abducted her.

Reiki Rimefang.

27. They/Them. Bisexual. Mephistopheles Tiefling. Wild Magic Sorcerer. Urchin. Clothing. Staves. Karlach Romance.

Born to an unknown mother and left on the doorstep of a Baldur's Gate orphanage as an infant. Unfortunately for Reiki, it was a poorer orphanage run by abusive and uncaring staff. Reiki was raised by the streets and usually only returned to the orphanage to sleep, returning less and less often as they grew until in their teens they left completely. To compound things, Reiki's wild magic bloomed when they were 10. They found a natural aptitude for ice magic, taking on the surname Rimefang as a result. They did their best to manage their wild magic but it often caused them trouble. Reiki ran with a gang of orphans and engaged in petty theft, vandalism, smuggling, and drug dealing. As they got older, Reiki continued to be involved in crime but also started adventuring on the side, especially for treasure. Became involved with a legally questionable but tight-knit group of thieves/adventurers. For several years they delved ruins, took on quests as mercs, and engaged in theft of artifacts and valuables. Reiki and crew had returned to Baldur's Gate after a particularly lucrative job involving a heist to steal valuable jewels from an aristocrat. They were celebrating their score when the mind flayers attacked. After being infected, Reiki sought out their comrades but found they had become mindless thralls. They were forced to kill them to save themselves.

Jinguu Ikari.

32. She/Her. Bisexual. Zariel Tiefling. Eldritch Knight. Noble. Heavy Armor. Polearms. Karlach + Wyll Romance.

Born to a middle level noble family in Baldur’s Gate. However, unlike Jinguu, the rest of her family is thoroughly human. Infernal blood had been sleeping in the genetics of the family for ages and finally showed itself with the birth of Jinguu. While her family didn’t outright disown her, she was the black sheep of the family and thoroughly unwanted, unloved, and shunned. Jinguu’s family did everything they could to keep her out of sight of other nobility, though she was impossible to keep secret completely. Her family did teach her basic noble etiquette and protocol- after all when she WAS shown to the public she had to know how to act properly. However, Jinguu was mostly left to her own devices. Those devices happened to be a dual love of arcane magic and polearm combat. Jinguu’s family did her the favor of hiring the best tutors and instructors in the subjects and she proved to be a prodigy in both. When Jinguu was in her 20s, she left Baldur’s Gate and adventured, putting her lessons to the test. After several years of delving dungeons, fighting monsters, and searching for arcane knowledge, Jinguu decided to return home to Baldur’s Gate. She had literally just passed through the city gates when the mindflayers abducted her.

Hidali Sigal.

34. They/Them. Bisexual. Mephistopheles Tiefling. Storm Sorcerer/Tempest Cleric of Mystra. Sage. Clothing. Staves. Gale Romance.

Born to a Tiefling family of 5 in Baldur's Gate. Parents are bakers. When Hidali's sorcery emerged in their late childhood, their parents didn't know what to do with a magical child. Hidali's parents sent them to a wizard academy, thinking "magic is magic right?". There, Hidali butted heads with both teachers and their peers as their magic was profoundly different from the wizardness being taught. Despite this, Hidali was a voracious learner and threw themselves into the tomes of the library at the school. They left school before graduation to adventure and find themselves and figure out their magic. Picked up the worship of Mystra soon after leaving school and saw their innate sorcery as a sign of favor by Mystra. Soon this devotion revealed itself to also be Cleric level. Simultaneously found a tutor in cleric magic and a tutor in sorcery in Cormyr. The tutors were two seasoned adventurers who had retired from adventuring and had settled down together. Together, they taught Hidali to channel their divine gifts and their innate sorcery. After several years under their tutelage, Hidali left Cormyr to return to Baldur's Gate when their mother died. As Hidali was heading to the funeral, the mind flayers appeared and snatched them up.

Deyja Moacir.

22. She/Her. Bisexual. Zariel Tiefling. War Cleric of Ilmater. Folk Hero. Heavy Armor. Shields. War Picks/Flails/Maces. Wyll Romance.

Born in Elturel to a Hellrider family who worshiped Ilmater. Deyja early on wanted to follow in her father's footsteps as a Hellrider and began training at a young age in the combat arts. A devoted follower of Ilmater her entire life, Deyja also trained in the war cleric arts at the local Ilmater temple. Deyja dreamed of being able to save others and defend the broken, the beaten, and the damned. The day of  Deyja's official initiation into the Hellriders, the Descent happened and Elturel was swallowed up by the Hells. Deyja immediately began working to save and help as many Elturel citizens as she could. She fought her way through devils and demons alike and within a few months had become a symbol of the Elturel resistance in the Hells. Deyja sank deep into her faith in Ilmater and sought to shoulder as much of the pain of the citizens of Elturel as she could. After about a year or two, Deyja escaped the Hells with a group of refugees that she led to safety in Baldur's Gate. However, shortly after arriving in the city, the mind flayers attacked and abducted her.
