Well you see, comrade. Masculinity in itself isn’t toxic. It’s the mentality that things seen as masculine are automatically better or superior is what’s toxic. Also the train of thought that a man doing anything that isn’t seen as implicitly masculine somehow makes them ‘less’ of a man.

Its the idea that a man can’t, for example, drink a fruity beverage because it’s not ‘masculine’ because fruity beverages are typically referred to as ‘girly’ drinks. Therefore if this man is drinking a fruity drink he is seen as less than a man because he’s doing something a ‘woman would do’ which in turn makes a woman seem less than a man.

Therefore, you get products that are not aimed at men because they are things that an typical man would be interested in or it would affect them. It’s aimed at them because using the alternate wouldn’t be ‘masculine’ therefore to avoid ridicule you must use this man-powered-gun-metal-super version. Not because it’s formulated for a ‘man’, but only because it’s not ‘girly’.

That’s what’s toxic. The idea that masculinity in that of itself is automatically superior to femininity and that the former should always be upheld by men as the better version than the later. It’s toxic when you start applying masculine marketing and what not to things that don’t even need them. Donuts is too girly. Here’s BROnuts. Chapstick? That’s for women. Here’s some DUDESTICK.

Earplugs? None of those girly earplugs allowed. I want my earplugs to be FOR MEN and shaped like BULLETS.

It’s the idea that a dude bleeding during a fight or another act of violence is seen as ‘manly as hell’ but a woman bleeding because of her natural bodily functions (if she is capable of doing so) is seen as gross.

Just wanted to clear that up, comrade.

any product traditionally targeted at men usually has a feminine alternative. this is because anything masculine is inherently seen as ugly. this is why we end up with gendered products towards women, and why comparing a woman to a man physically is seen as an insult.

here we have a tool box but not just any toolbox. a gendered toolbox you want to know why. because it is looked upon as ugly and unfeminine to do manual labor.

here are some examples of products that have been prettied up for women so they don’t have to feel like they are being looked upon as masculine while they use them.

there are countless other products i could show you but i think you get the point. this notion of a man not wanting to perceived as a woman is not a one way street. the notion that you would try to shame men on the grounds of buying a product targeted at them is ridiculous. i would not shame a man or woman who wanted to buy a gendered product, and i think your confusing superior with weak. men do not want to appear feminine because as women are the physically weaker of the two sexes they are inherently seen as weak. it is the same reason women do not want to appear as men because femininity is seen as beautiful and masculinity is seen as ugly. good day comrade
