I'm Heron (she/her) and this is a Star Wars and fanfic writing sideblog! I am very much an animated and prequels Star Wars fan, expect a lot of TCW, TBB, and Rebels. I also do art and might post it sometimes!

Star Wars Fics:

In Good Company (IGC):

In Good Company is a clone-centric eventual No Order 66 AU with some canon rewrites.

Warning! IGC focuses a lot on how the clones are mistreated and will feature character death and injury, graphic violence, dehumanization, mental illness, ableism, bullying, abuse, discussion of suicide. If you have any questions about potential triggers (or suggestions on what to warn for) please reach out.

Reader's choice whether to read Gloria before or after IGC Proper, I personally see merits to both options. They will spoil each other.

In Good Company (the fic, you might hear me call it IGC proper). A clone-centric fic in which the Jedi launch an Inquiry into how Kamino is run, leading to a domino effect that will eventually topple Palpatine and save the Jedi from ruin. Main characters: Anakin, Rex, Appo, Alpha-17, Havoc, Fox, Alpha-77. This is a large ensemble fic with a lot of characters and lots of stuff to unpack! 15/37 chapters posted.

Gloria is a prequel to IGC that starts 4-5 years before the start of the Clone War. It's a bittersweet coming of age focused on Cody and his relationships with his brothers, primarily the Bad Batch, Neyo, Rex, and Alpha-17. Heavy focus on Kamino's shittiness, and also shittiness from other clones: ableism, bullying, abuse. 5/11 chapters posted.

Suffering Comes First (Then After, Awareness) is a one-shot set in the IGC universe. It focuses on Commander Ponds and his reaction to events that take place in Chapter 11 of IGC proper. The only trigger warnings a general warning for clone mistreatment, discussions of mental illness, referenced mishandling of a corpse, and egregious references to Peter Hall's Agamemnon (1981).

Heartless Challenge is a one-shot set in the IGC universe. It focuses on the bounty hunter Arla Fett (who in this universe retains full memories of being Jango's sister and has left Death Watch), who at the outbreak of the war is tasked with capturing a deserted clone, not knowing the clones are clones of her deceased brother. Canon typical violence but discussions of worse violence, particularly against civilians.

The Extended Skywalker Family's Guide to Saving the Galaxy / Extended Skywalker Family's Guide / ESFG

Inspired by a post by Lady-of-the-Spirit about Shmi Skywalker meeting the clones. In this AU, Shmi is still alive for the outbreak of the Clone Wars. She was freed by the Jedi, she survived the Tusken attempt on her life, the Tusken Massacre didn't happen, and now, we can have fun family shenanigans (with some drama about the general state of the galaxy). I intend to tell this series via one-shots rather than multichapter fics.

This series will be updated less frequently than my other fics.

Warning! While Skywalker's Guide is undoubtedly the fluffiest series I'm currently writing, it will still feature frank discussions of slavery, general GFFA dystopia, and clone dehumanization. Future works may also have major character injury.

A Gift is a one-shot showing how Shmi was freed, also with some focus on her relationship with Anakin, Threepio, and Tatooine. 2nd written in the series but 1st chrono.

You're a Person (And Your Name is Rex) or YAP(AYNIR) is a one-shot following Rex as he returns from Tatooine and is tested for slave-chips after Shmi advises Anakin to do so.

Wheel in the Sky

This is a Post Order 66 Jesse lives AU focusing on Jesse, Rex, Echo, and other troopers and the founding of the Clone Underground.

Standing in the Sleet and Rain focuses on the direct aftermath of the crash of the Tribunal, as Rex, Jesse, and Ahsoka recover and try to plan their next steps.

Made of Silver, Not of Clay shows Jesse's reunion with Echo and their strained relationship.

The Days of Miracle and Wonder

This is an AU in which Count Dooku refuses Palpatine and remains a Jedi. And because of this, during the events of TPM, he takes Anakin as an apprentice to allow Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan to remain together.

Twice the Trouble is a one-shot that shows the relevant events of TPM.

Standalone fics

These fics are not (currently) a part of a larger series.

Pursuit is a fic about Ahsoka's parents trying to get her to the Jedi Order. It's based on a claim I heard that during TCW, they planned to do an arc showing Ahsoka's induction where her parents were nearly duped by a slaver, partially due to Plo Koon's menacing appearance. This fic focuses on Pav-ti, Nak-il, Ahsoka, Plo Koon, and Bultar Swan. 4/7 chapters posted.

Snipe Hunt is a TBB-Infinity Train Crossover in which after the TBB S1 finale, Crosshair is taken from Kamino by the Infinity Train and must work through his issues. 1/10 chapters posted.

Pivot is a Star Wars Rebels fic set after 'The Honorable Ones' which details Kallus' growing disillusionment with the Empire as demons from his past return to haunt him. 10/25 Chapters posted.

Non Star Wars fics:

The Axe Remembers is a Gaslight District one-shot about Ken, Mel, and Mud's relationship, set before the events of the pilot. No TWs that I can think of, just some family drama. Also sad ending.

Commala Oriza-tete is a pre-canon Dark Tower one shot character study about Cort and Aileen. It's primarily based on the comics and discusses Gilead's misogyny and what it means to be a girl who wants to be a gunslinger.

people complain about lack of star wars women and honestly real, but also there are actually a whole bunch of wonderfully fucked up star wars women. they interact with each other even. not all of them are love interests. like this is one of the best canons for women i have personally been engaged in actually. in some of the ensemble casts the ratio is 50/50 even. like there can always be more women! but also we do have. women. what was that zine. force fatale? yeah. yeah. there very much are women in star wars. satine and bo-katan. ahsoka tano. barriss. hera and sabine and luminara and padme and shaak ti and nala se and fennec and omera and omega and leia and mon mothma and riyo and aura sing and trilla and cere and merrin and aayla and ventress and reva and depa and the armorer and tahl and vokara and jyn and steela and so many more i know exist but do not remember fully.

i get really discouraged when i see posts like "star wars hates women" "there are no women in star wars" because yeah. sure. there is some truth to that. canon is brutal to these ladies and sometimes the fandom isn't much better. but they are here. they do exist. i love them.

i am realizing that my problem with 99% of clone trooper fandom is that i am This Close to identifying as a pacifist

it is my belief that being forced to be a soldier is one of the most horrific things that can be done to a human being. i find nothing noble or honorable or worthy of praise in being a soldier, or in fighting a war. it's a scam, to me. a lie. war is evil. it can be justified, yeah. sometimes violence happens for self defense reasons, for "there is no other way to stop them" reasons. but justification doesn't make it not evil, it just makes it justified. and that is the lens through which i engage with the clones and with star wars fandom in general. and for the last year i have been struggling my way through the baffling epiphany that the vast majority of people in clone fandom find the soldier aspect of it all to be cool and interesting

#the whole 'being forced to do it' in my eyes destroys the defence of it being justified#because... well#i'm in a similar boat as you. I'm not strictly speaking a pacifist but very close.#i respect people willing to fight because they think it's the only way to stop worse things from happening#but it's their active choice. yes under harsh circumstances but still a choice#being forced to fight not only means that you didn't even get the choice#but that someone else wanted a war but not for reasons they personally are willing fight

#idk if it makes sense#clones are not fighting because they want to protect something but because Republic finds it convenient.#it's not the same as asking citizens if they are willing to die for - checks notes - preventing several planets from exercising their right#i don't know if the overwhelming 'but they want to fight' is the result of confusing noble character vs noble cause.#like people only comfortable with perceiving them as heroes and not slaves who do as they told#and while one certainly can argue that at least some clones do feel like they are fighting for good cause - it doesn't make it right#i'm sure some of them feels this way at least at some point in time#combined influence of propaganda and good old coping with the reality you live in

putting your tags on blast because they are excellent, and! the whole "the clones are fighting because it's convenient to the republic" thing! because this is exactly why it's impossible to separate the clones as soldiers from the clones as slaves. people didn't invent slavery to make other people suffer, people invented slavery to cut down on labor costs. historically, slaves do the work that everybody agrees needs to be done but that nobody wants to do, or that it would be too expensive to pay someone fairly to do. slaves were/are not just field hands and sex workers and whatever other stereotypes, slaves were master craftsmen, popular entertainers, and, soldiers. there have been slave armies in many times and many places for many reasons, this isn't a purely sci-fi thing.

i think palpatine chose a clone army for the jedi specifically to make the jedi suffer, but i think he got away with it--got support for it from politicians and the republic at large--because nobody else wanted to fight, but they all agreed the fight was necessary. instead of drafting soldiers, training them, and paying them, they could make a one-time purchase of a ready to go army. all they had to do to justify it was insist that the clones weren't really people, so it wasn't really slavery. this way, no actual real people had to fight and die in the "necessary" war.

the clones were manufactured to supply a demand, and their loyalty is included in that. their loyalty was manufactured and paid for too. and i think you're right, or on the right track. i absolutely think that defending the clones' loyalty/dedication to duty/pride in being soldiers as a good thing comes down to conflating noble characters with a noble cause. because we understand that loyalty is a good thing, and the clones by and large want to be good people, but they have been told that the way to be good people is to be good soldiers. to be loyal, to be dedicated, to take pride in their service. but their choices were to be loyal or die. the war they were made for and died in wasn't just metaphorically a scam it was an actual literal for real manufactured scam. there is no good cause here. there is no justice. the "kill or be killed" is real yes but it that doesn't make it any less contrived. there was nothing noble about their service to the republic in any sense of the word. and i consider it to be a pretty central theme to every clone's arc that it is possible to be a good person without being a good soldier.

to be honest i do think that if less than 1/3rd of the media you're into is meaningfully about women in some way you really should check in with yourself about that and try and actively course correct to some degree. it's a self sustaining problem when people are only interested in engaging with and producing works about men. i'm not trying to say "unless you reach xyz quota of women posting you are a misogynist" but rather that, speaking from personal experience, it's difficult to be exposed to high quality fiction about women unless you take the initiative to actually look for it. You can't just wait for it to come to you, but it's very easy to go meet it where it's at.

i do think that if you're someone for whom media represents a significant portion of your interests/hobbies, and especially if you're someone who is interested in creating any works of your own, you have an obligation to try and engage with works that give women focus and interiority. Yes, even you, the gay guy reading this who is about to try and explain to me why your intellectual disinterest in women is justified by your sexual disinterest in women.

It may feel a little bit forced or artificial to go about it this way but I feel like a forced or artificial interest in womens' narratives is much better than no interest, and can serve as a stepping stone into genuine interest once you realize what exactly you've been robbing yourself of this whole time.

🎀 how do you decide when something is done?

I tend to write in pieces and edit / fuse the pieces together as I go. Once I have a complete piece I read it aloud to look for mistakes / clunkiness, but I've often read it several times before. My editing process isn't very elaborate and I tend to post things the same day they're finished.

Can't really think of very many things? I guess in general I don't get much out of "standard" AUs like modern, coffeeshop, flowershop, fantasy, omegaverse, etc.

i always find it fascinating when a character gets headcanoned as both transmasc and transfem by different members of the fandom because it like. highlights how being closeted and stealth can look similar from the outside but are internally very different experiences. does your blorbo have a Thing (tm) about gender because they're trying to beat down the part of them that desperately wants to transition? or did they start transitioning a decade ago and view it as private information that theyre not gonna talk about casually. choose wisely because your answer may have implications.

I'm loving the discussions about the role and purpose of fandom, as well and what activities are needed to keep fandoms alive and flourishing!

However... as a fandom creator (writer and artist), I sometimes feel like too much pressure is concentrated on creators. I don't know if this is a frustration others share? Not only should we keep making things, but somehow we also end up becoming these central fandom figures who can feel pressured into responding to comments (or else we're called arrogant or ungrateful), making friends (or else we're rude for ignoring well-meaning people who reach out), and being the drivers and pillars of that community (running events, responding to memes, etc. – and everything falls silent if we stop). It's a lot of work!! I don't always have the time and energy to make things for fun and then also engage in all the ways people might sometimes feel entitled to because they enjoy my works.

I really wish that more "non-creating" fans in the community would discover their fandom power!! and not just rely on the visible "producing" creators to be the only people worth engaging with. It takes nothing more than passion to write a meta-post about a character or a plot point, or to create an ask game, or to DM someone else who you see posting funny tags – not just the creator! Maybe your followers have other tips for evening out the balance a little more?

A lot of people feel as though they need permission or an invitation of some sort in order to contribute. That's why I always end my answers by asking people to share their thoughts. I want to make it explicitly clear that I want people to add things into the reblogs (which I can then share out for more people to see) and the replies (which people can at least read even if I can't reblog).

I have heard fans who are readers but don't write fic say that they think they can't get an AO3 account unless they plan to post something. This is incorrect, of course, but a lot of people make that assumption.

I think at least some people (I don't know what kind of percentage) assume that someone who is writing fic or posting art or making podfics and video edits etc. has some sort of expertise that "allows" them to post.

People with less confidence or with less practice etc. sometimes need an extra nudge before they realize that they're welcome to contribute too. If that's the case for you, please allow me to say:

You are welcome to post in your fandom, even if no one invites you to. Even if you think you're not good enough. Even if your idea isn't "popular."

Start a conversation. Share a thought. Talk to folks who reblog cool shit. Be a folk who reblogs cool shit. You don't have to do everything in order to do something.

As mentioned above, please do share your thoughts in the reblogs and replies to keep the conversation going.

There are so many ways you can engage with fandom that aren’t making fanart or writing fanfics. Fandom is community - Please don’t be afraid to join in!

I remember someone in the haikyuu!! fandom kept a twt thread of every time two characters were in the same panel. Not sure what the tumblr equivalent would be. I guess just a regular old post with lots of additions? (Send help; i'm not sure why my brain is struggling so badly to translate twitter threads to tumblr posts)

Run a quote bot account: I'm not sure of the status of quote bots in a post twitter era, but those were quite fun. Again an example from the hq!! fandom, there was the hq!! bastille bot which would spit out a bastille lyric + a ship. The siken bot would spit out a line of poetry + a ship name. On tumblr maybe the equivalent would be a gimmick blog?

Run a ship/character week. I think these are probably the easiest kind of fandom event to run. it doesn't take more than one person, a blog, and rudimentary graphics skills.

Make gifs

Try to figure out the layers to a character's outfit and share your studies with the world. (I'm looking directly at you, Hoyoverse and all you're what-even-is-that how-do-they-even-put-that-on character design. beautiful, but confusing)

Some suggestions:

Transcribe episodes for film/audio canons

Podfic! We can always use more podfic, and most people's phones have a voice recorder.

Create bingo sheets (e.g. make a fanwork with five or more of these tropes for a bingo; read/reblog fanworks in five or more of these categories for a bingo)

Be a Your Blorbo expert consultant! If I'm writing about a character I don't have strong feelings about, but I know one of my friends is constantly reblogging and posting about them, even if it's all silly memes and "character <3"-type posting, I'll sometimes reach out to them for advice on if I'm getting Their Blorbo right. It's absolutely invaluable and I appreciate these people so much.

We are all just enthusiastic nerds on the internet. You have as much right to share your enthusiasm as anyone. One of the things I love about tumblr as a platform is that you can just start saying whatever about something you like, and you will find other people who like it too.

It's such an amazing feeling when someone picks up on something in your writing that you 100% intended but didn't think people would notice. Like, YES!! My writing properly conveyed the thing it was supposed to!!! You are so awesome for noticing that!!! I am so awesome for writing that!!! I feel so good about my story now!!!!

things in fic I'm used to people kind of faking their way through writing about:

sex

how drinking alcohol works

how getting high works

how a child of any age speaks

how nuclear physics work

how [my job] works

how debilitating being shot in the shoulder is

things I have never before seen someone fake their way through writing about, until today:

As a society, we need to go back to understanding that strangers on the internet are, you know, strangers. I feel lately that I'm seeing a rise in 'An author I love blocked me because they took my comment the wrong way' posts on the ao3 subreddit, and then the comment is them calling the author a fucking bitch or something like that.

Don't do this. Tone doesn't translate well in text, and if you don't have a rapport with that author, they are not going to interpret, 'You're a fucking bitch' as, 'Author I hate you for being so talented and making me feel so keenly.' They're going to interpret it as you being an asshole. You can shit talk with your friends because you have an established relationship with them and can distinguish between playful banter and genuine anger. You do not have this with a stranger, no matter how much you like their fics. You will have a much more pleasant time in fandom and not get cockblocked from interacting with your favorite writers if you remember this.

#I don't often see comments like these when I'm reading a fic but there have been a few that made me raise an eyebrow#I don't know if I would block over someone calling me a bitch on a fic I wrote but I'd probs try to gently tell them it's not right#coz honestly I feel like this is an issue with younger age groups who are new to reading fics and might not understand fandom culture#or at least I hope it's younger people who simply don't know better 😬#otherwise... yikes

This isn't some esoteric niche aspect of fandom culture, strangers at the potluck also do not like being called a fucking bitch.
