it's important to me that ilya remains captain of the centaurs after shane joins, but i have a specific picture in my mind of shane being assistant captain and being generally harmless and super chill , so the centaurs see him as like the chill parent (something to be said about shane being content in letting someone else, specifically His Someone, have the reins and enjoying not being in charge) but then ilya has to be out for a few weeks for like health or smth so shane goes into Captain Mode and the centaurs are scared shitless by how intense he gets all of a sudden. the most intense drills of all time. the hardest plays they've ever heard of. the strictest practices on earth. and they suddenly understand why shane led the metros/voyagers to victory so many times and why ilya treats him like the boss in their relationship. and then as soon as ilya comes back he turns it off and the centaurs are like Oh Thank Fuck Because What The Hell Was That

I need a fic where Luca Haas gets mic’d up for a game and the internet loses its mind.

He’s playing phenomenal hockey, completely controlling the puck, playing aggressively, just fantastic.

And he’s so polite. He says thank you when he steals the puck. He says sorry when he slams someone into the boards. He says excuse me to the goaltender as he sends the puck flying past them.

From anyone else it would be the most obnoxious chirping, but being polite is just that ingrained into him. He can’t not.

Concept - sometime in the 2015-16 season Marley is traded to Ottawa. Both he and Ilya make dramatic social media posts about their husband going off to war or whatever. The Cliff/Ilya fans eat it up with a spoon. In 2018, when Ilya signs with Ottawa too, even the more serious sports media find themselves briefly considering the idea that there might be something more to this friendship, because why else would Rozanov go to a bottom ranked team like Ottawa?

Shane goes back and forth between weird pointless jealously that people think Ilya is fucking Cliff and relief that this is like a weird added security around their real relationship.

Ilya and Cliff both find the whole thing fucking hilarious.

i feel like if shane hadn’t been injured in 2017 and ilya actually had gone through with trying to end things, shane would’ve just been like. no. his intentions are already locked and loaded, it’s too late. he’s not getting upset or mad because he knows ilya wants this too (is simple for me / bullshit!), but it’s hard. so that’s a firm “no. come to my cottage this summer,” and then they fuck slowly and gently into the night because ilya had expected to be back in his hotel room long before now but he’s still cocooned in shane’s arms, trying to wrestle the vision of rural ottawa for the summer away from himself because he can’t go but he’s fallen asleep watching that documentary so many times now, wondering how he might fit into each room. he doesn’t know the space has been carved out for years.

there’s a viral video going around of someone who snuck a camera into the tunnel and caught shane and ilya embraced right before they hit the ice. it’s an incredibly warm and tender moment, they’re holding each other so tightly. ilya’s face is buried in shane’s hair and he’s kissing his head while whispering something to his husband. and they’re kinda slowly swaying together, and shane’s got one hand caressing ilya’s back while the other one is just playing with the ends of ilya’s hair. and it’s the most domestic and romantic thing that anyone have ever seen from them. they’re just so soft and in love and and the fans are mad about the invasion of privacy but also so grateful they got to witness such a beautiful moment between the married hockey players. and harris is absolutely beaming because for once the hollanders are viral for something nice instead of some chaotic or unhinged moment

I keep thinking about Shane just saying fuck it and booking a flight to Boston after Rose. He decided that waiting till Tampa could be bad. What if Ilya doesn't want to talk to him? Out of the blue Ilya receives a text asking if he's home? Ilya thinks he's being pranked. This is a sick trick. Shane is with Rose. He remembers that show with the shitty actor, punk. Shane calls and just says please come to the door.the doorbell rings. Ilya opens and Shane is actually there. Shane apologizes for the last time. Ilya takes a moment. "You and Rose Landry?" "No, we're not compatible." Ilya lets Shane in and they have a very similar conversation that they do in Tampa.

Like Shane just decides Ilya needs a grand gesture and waiting a couple more days doesn't sit right with him.

Shane has always been so polite, it feels to other teams like he’s had a personality transplant once he joins Ottawa. In fact, he’s just finally letting his inner snarky bitch run free. Everybody in the league except Hayden, JJ and Ilya are dumbfounded when it turns out nice, polite Shane Hollander has a bitchy side. They always knew about it.

And really, what can this random d-man from another team do to Shane? He’s heard all the homophobic chirps before. He’s been outed. The commissioner has threatened to take hockey away from him. He’s been run out of his old team on a rail. Some sponsors have probably dropped him because suddenly he’s “controversial.”

Total strangers on Twitter who used to worship Shane are sending him death threats. People he’s known for a decade (people he used to consider his friends) assume he threw games for Ilya. People whose weddings and birthday parties he attended didn’t show up for his wedding, have turned on him, are actively bad-mouthing him in the press.

The polite golden boy persona always seemed like protective camouflage. But when the chips were down, it did nothing to protect him. Shane may as well say what he really thinks from now on. That random defenceman won’t know what hit him.

It was getting harder to say goodbye.

Shane’d figured it’d be easier, once they were official. To part, knowing that there definitely was going to be a next time. But now? Now, it was excruciating. Because whenever he had to kiss Ilya goodbye, it was with the knowledge that Ilya belonged to him. That he was sending the most precious and fragile piece of his heart into the universe, unprotected, just praying that it would come back unscathed.

So yeah, maybe the last time they’d said goodbye, he’d gotten carried away.

Caught up in the moment, the feeling of Ilya inside him, the need to be inside the other man’s very soul.

He’d been loud. Groaning Ilya’s name so raggedly that it’d pulled Ilya over the edge after him, pulling him closerclosercloser, refusing to let go even in the sticky aftermath.

The picture gave a clear view of long, possessive marks scratched down Ilya’s sculpted back. Etched over his beautiful muscles and pressed into his perfect flesh, Shane had, in the heat of the moment, used his nails like claws, marking what was his.

Suddenly, he broke into a crazed grin that matched his boyfriend’s.
