This could have easily been an episode plot tbh
my religion is other women. this isn’t tongue in cheek. my religion congregates around a fire, in a cramped room we booked to talk, in an idling car for way too long, in someone’s living room, in the cold because there’s more to say and hear. there is a spark of divinity i know to look for when she says something she’s never said out loud before. there is a spiritual rumble in the dehydrated voices of women who aren’t used to saying so much. when i hear another woman articulate something i’ve never been able to, that’s the voice of my god speaking to me. its ancient, forbidden knowledge, and it fills my body with my self. there’s power in our warm red blood.
‘Cis people engage in gender affirmation too!!’ Yes those are called gender roles, we used to be able to acknowledge how they’re restrictive and imposed on everyone from birth….
"gender affirming surgeries are just like cosmetic surgery done by cis people!" Yes and we hate those too
It’s not actually a good thing that some women feel pressured to get breast implants or that some men feel pressured to get ab implants. It’s not a good thing that gender roles are imposed so heavily and strictly that it leads people to hating their natural bodies for not fitting some standard, and makes them want to surgically alter their bodies. Why are we hand waving this away as “teehee it’s just gender affirming care which is always fine and good and wonderful and completely politically neutral!” Instead of analysing and criticising this?? Why are we being so intellectually lazy and wilfully ignorant?
It sounds like TikTok is incredibly confused right now about why lesbians are attracted to “masculine” women. And this is the consequence of gender ideology’s strict enforcement of gender roles. This has always been something that confused conservatives, who also enforce strict gender roles. They believe that pants + shirt + short hair = man and can’t wrap their heads around why a lesbian would be attracted to that. Trans identified people and their allies believe the exact same thing, so they too are very confused.
And honestly, I can’t blame them. When your entire ideology revolves around regressive, sexist gender roles…when you’ve trained yourself to see gender non-conformity and immediately identify it as “trans” so you can avoid “misgendering” (but who cares if you call a butch woman he or they repeatedly), of course you’re going to have difficulty separating clothes from gender. When you’ve built your idea of sexual orientation around these gender roles and have convinced yourself that woman = “femininity” and man = “masculinity” and that this is what lesbians and gay men must be attracted to respectively, so you can live in your fantasy land where you as a heterosexual will be desired by the homosexuals you fetishise, and where you can avoid the reality that homosexuality does not ever include attraction to the opposite sex…of course you’re going to be confused when a lesbian is attracted to a GNC woman who is visually no different than most of the “transmascs” you claim gay men are drooling over.
Of course I’m annoyed at these idiots for falling right back into the same homophobia we’ve been experiencing from conservatives for years. But I understand where they’re coming from. And it’s exactly why I’m so against gender ideology, because it can only result in things like this.
People treat TIMs fears and women’s fears vastly different.
A TIM scared to go outside and scared to interact with people, including other men, is considered by progressives and leftists not paranoid, but reasonably fearful. It’s such a scary time to be trans, they say. There’s a genocide going on, they claim. It’s perfectly understandable that a trans woman is scared and wants his transfem spaces, his communities, his transfem specific resources.
A woman is scared to be around men, wants her own spaces of just women, or goes out of her way to avoid men, she’s being paranoid. She’s just been watching too much true crime. Not every man is out to get her, she’s so emotionally swayed by online stories that aren’t even true. She needs to go to therapy, it’s not other people’s responsibility to deal with her trauma, she just shouldn’t go outside if she’s so scared. She’ll be lectured about how she’s promoting racism even if she isn’t even white. Her wanting female only spaces is her being hateful and paranoid. A leftist man will go on about how trans women are being murdered and there’s a genocide and they can never ever go to Texas or Florida, if they live there they need to leave or they will die, and then in the next breath say women are crazy and paranoid for being scared of men sometimes.
speaking from experience, if you're a lesbian and you're attracted to a trans man then two options present themselves to you:
realize that you don't really see him as a man, or :
accept that you can be attracted to a man
a fork in the road like this would be a great place to examine your bioessentialist transphobia, but instead of doing that you can just ascend to a new enlightened plane and reach queer level 100 by deciding "welllll trans men can be lesbians"
3. Realise you’re attracted to female people and acknowledge that sexuality is based on sex, and that basing it on anything else such as the social construct of gender ignores that sexuality is biological, not socialised.
This is so funny bc many lesbians are famously attracted to masculine women. Who are indistinguishable from a “pre transition trans man” in every way. Somehow lesbians are supposed to sense some male energy coming off of SOME of these masc lesbians (who are “actually” trans) and not be attracted to them. Somehow being exclusively attracted to female people means that you’re bisexual, because you can’t know if that masculine lesbian is going to cave and put he/him in her bio because everyone calls her that anyway and she doesn’t like her breasts so she might as well be a dude.
Be so for reallllll of COURSE lesbians can be attracted to female people who identify with different genders.
men supporters are like it's so unfair that women get to cry and cut themselves and men are only allowed to show their feelings by mass shooting
As a woman in a fair few male dominated spaces, nothing annoys me more than seeing men come into a female dominated space like 'oh I'm so scared, I'm so worried. Is there space here for little old me? Will you welcome the smol bean that is me?"
Because 90% of the time they're just attention seeking and also a woman can't do that in a male space because it would count against her immediately. Women in male professions/hobbies have to bravado everything. You know you're not welcome, and you have to force them to even give you a chance, and they fight you at every step.
If I turned up to my motorcycle school with the "I'm a nervous widdle baby pls validate me" attitude that men turn up to our crafting group with, then they wouldn't have let me in the door.
Women can't show any weakness, men get to act like fucking babies and receive fawning compliments and welcomes.
