Just a reminder that Saudi Arabia is responsible for one of the world's largest and most severe man made humanitarian emergencies. It's not a question of whether men and women are different but why those differences, real or perceived, always seem to be handled in a way that favors men. Take for instance the idea that men can't control themselves when women dress or act a certain way, usually the proposed solution is to regulate women's behavior and women's clothing choices. bringing this back because I’ve been thinking about how it’s particularly tone-deaf and cruel to discuss the needs of female bodies using this kind of language.

let’s go through some examples of females who may not menstruate/have a uterus/have ovaries/etc:

- a premenstrual girl. not included in “people with periods.” may not currently need, say, access to bathrooms that have sanitary pads. most absolutely needs comprehensive education on her body and how menstruation works for when the time comes.

- a woman with PCOS who’s stopped menstruating. not included in “people with periods.” still in absolute need of research on her female-specific condition because doctors still don’t know what exactly causes it or how to effectively treat it.

- a woman who had an oophorectomy because she had ovarian cancer. not included in “people with ovaries” or “people who produce more estrogen than testosterone.” would maybe still have her ovaries if her male doctor had believed her when she first started to feel pain and her cancer had been treated early on. still has the same hormonal needs as other females and needs to be on HRT.

- a woman who became infertile after having a clandestine abortion. not included in “people who can get pregnant.” would have possibly not become pregnant if she’d had access to education and contraceptives and if we didn’t live in a world where men raping women was commonplace. could have had a safe abortion if women were granted full autonomy over their bodies.

- a girl who was the victim of fgm. not included in “people with a clitoris.” would not have been the victim of fgm if men did not specifically seek to control and punish female bodies.

Exactly. I think about this a lot when I see "ChatGPT is always confidently wrong" arguments, not because genAI is often right, but because the argument doesn't work on people who actually use it regularly.

It isn't always wrong. It's often correct enough for the average person's day to day usage. If you say, "it always gives misinformation", they're going to ignore you because just that morning it gave a perfectly functional summary of their meeting's notes. It correctly identified some vegan restaurants in their area. It accurately calculated some math for them.

If it was always wrong, no one would use it. The danger is that you can never tell when it's going to be wrong, and when it's right enough that people start to trust it and not double check anything (automation bias), the things it gets wrong become catastrophic. Sometimes automation bias is so bad that mistakes compound and proliferate for ages before anyone catches it (ie: the company who were making financial decisions based off of hallucinated forecasting).

Unfortunately I have realised that performing femininity to some extent gets you so much better treatment as a neurodivergent woman. Firstly, we're not 'mad' about anything. You're implying right off the bat that 'terfs' talk about things from a place of merely being emotional and reactionary, rather than recognising that we address things from a place of well-established feminist theory. As part of said feminist theory, it's understood that 'AFABs' are oppressed based on sex - gender, gender roles, and the stigmatisation and erasure of 'AFAB' bodies couldn't make sense if we were approaching this topic from anything other than 'radfem' (read: feminist) analysis. The reason why labelling it as 'transandrophobia' bothers us is because it diverts focus away from leftist class analysis of us as the oppressed group of 'women' whose reproductive capacity is exploited by men. At best, we would label 'transandrophobia' as a subset of misogyny. The oppression of women runs so deep and fundamental to society throughout all recorded history, and our subordination is so expected, that any defiance of that expectation is always going to instinctually read by said patriarchal order as an issue of disruption of sex roles - of women 'not knowing our place'. In order for 'transandrophobia' to make any sort of conceptual sense outside of it simply being a subset of misogyny (akin to, say, 'pretty privilege), two things would have to be true:

'cis' people would have to believe that trans men possess some sort of essence of maleness, which means they ultimately believe transgender people exist

but they also don't believe that transgender people exist, therefore they think that 'trans men' are just deluded cis women

These two things cannot coexist. 'Radfems' start from a place of the feminist framework of sex as the axis of our oppression. Any uniquely female experience (transandrophobia is a uniquely 'AFAB' experience) is encompassed under that umbrella. The material realities of being a woman who has a mastectomy and a 'trans man' who has top surgery are identical - and under a feminist lens we recognise that any 'transphobia' directed towards the latter is built on a foundation of misogyny from the former. Misogyny is the driving force.

Since women's oppression is so old and established, society has established numerous subtle ways to fragment and individualise it - nobody has to consciously hate all women to accuse some woman of being a 'bitch' or a 'karen'. So radfems are very aware of the need to build female class consciousness. Said fragmentation and its affects become very clear when trans men talk about their experiences which under a feminist lens would be rightfully recognised as misogyny. And because we recognise the power of misogyny, we also recognise that other women perpetuate it - if you'd been paying attention you would have seen the massive argument on radblr recently on the issue of misogyny being perpetrated by women. It's also worth pointing out that under a feminist lens, labelling certain things as an indicator that you have the 'gender' of male rather than simply being a gnc women would actually be misogyny. The idea that there's some imaginary line between 'cis women' and 'trans men', where the former is the distinct oppressor of the latter, is exactly the kind of disruption of class consciousness that the patriarchy loves - and its effects have been evident already.
