hi! do you have any advice for how to color? you do it so well, I want to learn how you do it! If not that's okay don't worry about it
oh boy let’s see
(note that i am self taught and colour with my own preferences in mind!)
please say the read more worked
now i know that this didn’t cover all of my colouring style but most of it was found through a complicated process of trial and error and i am Not Great at cramming all that into a nice n easy tutorial
(here’s the brush post referenced earlier)
but advice!
observe from real life! take a photo, colour pick from it, and watch where it lands on the colour wheel. when you’ve gotten good at that, try it without the colour wheel and walk around real life and imagine where they would land.
observe other art! other digital artists, traditional artists, cartoonists, concept artists, they’ve got Great sense of colour. if you really must, try colour picking from them to see how they did it, but NEVER steal or copy their art, and especially DO NOT POST IT
shade with blues and purples! naturally, as cool tones, they’ll look darker
shading doesn’t mean shoot down the colour wheel as dark as you can go. sometimes keeping the same hue and lightness but upping the saturation can make a huge difference
dance around the colour wheel! i know i do this sometimes, but don’t confine yourself to just one section of the colour wheel. highlight with neon blue! illuminate dark brown hair with a bright yellow! go absolutely ham!!!
layer settings, as shown above, can unify a colour palette. do not ignore your best friends!!!
have your ideal style in mind. having a goal helps you pick apart the steps to get there
try palette challenges and get creative with them
have fun!
i wish u luck on ur art journey lad
