Studying Online
I know for many the change to studying online has been really tough, I am included in this group. With so many distractions at our fingertips and the transition to Zoom based classes it can be super easy to forget deadlines, procrastinate, and ultimately fall behind. For those who need to maintain grade averages it is doubly stressful. Some tips which have helped me personally are:
* Maintaining a good sleep schedule and getting enough sleep - It can be super easy to stay up late even when there is physical learning, but now with everything online its even easier to fall into the early morning before sleeping. By going to bed and waking up at a reasonable time your brain gets into work mode easier in my experiences.
* Keep a journal - Keeping track of your work and deadlines is super important when there aren’t classes and schedules to keep your mind locked in. I personally keep a bullet journal to organize myself and make assignments easier.
* Eat Healthy/Drink Tea or Coffee - What you put in your body influences how your brain works. I know this is a standard tip but right now more than ever I think a good diet and some hot drink boosts are essential to keeping yourself focused on your work.
* Talk to others - With isolation its easy to lose touch with your class mates but I’ve found that Zoom meetings with some class mates or messaging them keeps allows me to not feel as bad about not being productive at times. The reality is we are all struggling and being able to talk about it with people can make yourself feel less guilty and free up your mind to actually be productive when you get around to it.
* Pomodoro Technique - Study 25 minutes then 5 minute break for three rotations then a longer 15-30 minute break. This has honestly saved me in this situation. Breaking down these big study tasks into digestible 25 minute blocks with a 5 minute break to stretch and breath has really kept me chugging along. This technique allows your mind to frequently detox whilst working and I find it allows for a much better academic mind frame.
* Doggo - Playing with my doggo in my study breaks. Need I say more? Produces that good good dopamine.
Feel free to reblog with any tips you’ve found helps at the moment with your distance learning. I know mine are pretty standard but they really work, so I’d highly recommend them.
