I’m not an expert about children...however I don’t think that is how you’re suppose to hold him...
Gif Request Meme: The Hobbit + 17. blank space ↳ cutest Bagginshield moments (requested by littlestr)
i’m sorry but i have to yell for a bit about thorin oakenshield again
if bilbo really is a little intimidated by thorin at first, it’s because he feels very much out of place among dwarves in general, and while some of them, like bofur and fili and kili and balin, are perfectly willing to ease that transition for him, help him feel like he belongs in the company, some of the others are not, especially dwalin and thorin - their attitude clearly shows that they see how different he is and that he’d better go home before he hurts himself (ha-ha-fucking-ha)
but is he actually scared of thorin? never. the thing with bilbo is he automatically expects everyone who is an acquaintance of his to behave politely and be civilized, and that is why at no point he assumes that thorin (or any other dwarf) would be violent or overly harsh with him.
can i say he is so fearless because he believes in people so much? or does he just have too little experience with folks outside of the shire?
just one small example of that trust though. when daisy and bungo go missing, fili and kili do not want to bother thorin with the news - partly because they don’t want to upset him, knowing he is under a lot of stress already, partly because they probably don’t fancy the speech they will definitely get… but bilbo’s first reaction is that they should tell thorin. first of all, he isn’t the slightest bit afraid of his anger or bad temper or whatever imagined malevolence. secondly, he has full faith in thorin as a leader who will help and know what to do to handle this situation.
ALSO look at this amazing gif
(x)
the nodding is killing me!
does bilbo’s reaction in any way convey an anxious feeling of “oh god no he’s looking at me with that face again, i’d better hurry up, sorry, sorry, i’m coming”
NO
that nod says “yeah i know, i’ll be right behind you, hold on a sec, i just need a last glance”
he’s not even fidgety in the slightest, clearly feeling perfectly at ease with thorin as his equal and his companion (maybe because of the late night firefly conversation?)
this exchange (bless martin and richard, bless them hard) is so grown-up and full of dignity, and already (even before they were friends, even before thorin actually openly liked him and really started to trust him) they have this intrinsic rapport fueled by the feeling of assurance, acceptance, respect and equality that carries on through the whole trilogy and makes me want to claw my heart out and throw it at the screen
This seriously makes me wonder where did all the fidgety blushy Bilbo trope we had early in the fandom came from. Not only there is no evidence of it in the movie, but the more their interactions are analysed, the more it’s clear how much their relationship is based on mutual, well, maybe respect is a big word for Thorin in at the beginning of AUJ but… decency? And it’s always equal, and that’s what makes their friendship (first and foremost - maybe something else later) so amazing. It’s amazing how they played it out and I really don’t understand how could so many people get it so completely wrong.
They were there all day up on the battlements and we were just their for our lines, to say our lines.
after 60 years, bilbo travelled to the east and thorin to the west. they met in the middle.
don’t mess with the bros

Dwalin and Kili, two of Thorin’s best warriors…
This scene is even funnier when you realize Aidan Turner can’t stop laughing the entire time
