something i like about pyra and mythra and how they handle their trauma is that pyra is very explicitly the trauma response who was created to deal with everything mythta couldn’t handle. like, mythra says outloud that she wanted to “leave everything to pyra.” so the assumption would be that pyra would be either much more capable at processing the trauma or would at least be much better at concealing it from other people, but it’s totally the opposite.

after her outburst in chapter 4, mythra pretty much never talks about or alludes to her issues, at least not explicitly. it’s still there, but she’s able to pretty effectively hide it until it’s all out in the open during chapter 7. meanwhile pyra is constantly Trying to hold it in and maintain the nice polite softgirl front, but it really doesn’t take much for her depression to get pretty openly displayed. like one would note that it only takes a little prompting for pyra to more or less tell corrine she wants to die. while she isn’t usually that obvious about it, it’s still pyra who starts lamenting the agony of memory just from hearing vandham’s explanation of blades, it’s still pyra who bursts into tears at the mention of addam, etc. try as she might to keep it a secret, pyra really just cannot hide how badly she’s doing.

i just think it’s very cool/agonizing that pyra was supposed to basically be mythra’s trauma buffer who could handle it all for her, but she absolutely cannot handle it. i think it’s, like, an unintended result of her also being a representation of mythra’s insecurities over her own personality. mythta creates the softgirl she could never be, but she also needed that softgirl to tank unreal levels of emotional turmoil for her, and well. pyra is simply too sensitive a soul to do that without the cracks constantly showing. it’s awesome dude this shit is so messy and sad

went to a new optometrist today wearing my squid facts ‘save our freaks dont mine the deep’ shirt from @sarahmackattack that has a strawberry squid on it. and i wasn’t even thinking about it but the optometrist walked in and he was like ‘oh what does your shirt say’ so i showed him and he was like ‘oh that’s neat!’ and then i thought he might like to know about strawberry squid eyes since they have weird eyes and he is an optometrist and all. so i was like ‘yeah it’s actually a real kind of squid called a strawberry squid, their eyes are really cool because they have one big yellow-green one and one small blue one’ and he kind of gasped and went ‘oh my god that’s so interesting i wonder why they have that. do you know what their retina composition is like?’ and i watched as he minimized my chart on the computer and started looking up images of strawberry squid and then he googled ‘strawberry squid retina composition’ and he was like ‘sorry we’ll get to your eye exam in a moment i just really want to find out’ LMAO 10/10 optometrist experience will be returning
