How far Astrid and I have come in a year. This weekend is Toronto’s holiday market con and I still have no clue what I’m wearing - but I am still thick in the middle of an Astrid con crunch. Is #fairyfriday a thing? It should be! But what about a #flashbackfriday?? Do we remember that brief moment in time I cosplayed Periwinkle?! . . . Debuted during March Comic Con 2019, Peri was part of a group cosplay and I basically hated every minute of it. Not the group - they’re the loveliest humans! But I didn’t enjoy making this cosplay, I didn’t enjoy wearing it, I didn’t enjoy any of the photos from afterwards. In many of the photos from the day, I have mad crazy eyes - where you can see the discomfort and panic in my expression from being so uncomfortable. It was my first time making pants, and I wasn’t wearing a proper bra, just a corset, and I felt like I was going to fall out the whole time! Also, my hair started falling out of Peri’s gravity-defying style. Needless to say, I changed out of her pretty quickly. . . . As frustrating an experience it was, I’m glad to have had the opportunity to try something new and scary! Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t, but it’s always a learning experience. . . . As much as I might be an old lady, I’m still obsessed with plushies. They’re my favourite prop for a cosplay, I almost always buy one while I’m on vacation, and I still sleep with the same stuffed leopard I’ve had since I was five years old. These babies come from @buildabear - and I hope to eventually have all of the main five dragons - and both have crazy stories with their purchases. . . . Toothless was bought from a BAB in Bournemouth, England after my Topdeck trip in February 2017. I saw him in the window and made my travel buddies stop so I could buy him. I’m sure they thought I was crazy. He spent the flight home snuggled in my suitcase a week-ish later. . . . Stormfly was purchased during NYCC 2018. I spotted her hanging and made a bee-line, basically throwing my money at the guy running the booth. I was in Margaery and the irony is not lost on me. These travel buddies didn’t think I was crazy - they were so excited for me! She came home with me on the plane. . . . Those are my crazy-plushy-lady stories! But I don’t regret any of them, and I love that they all have stories attached to them. Because stories are the best. Okay I’m done rambling now! . . . Next Wednesday is my birthday! I turn 32 - I’m never ashamed or secret about my age. And being an almost-Halloween baby means I’ve always wants to go all out for my birthday. This past weekend was Canadian Thanksgiving! And though my family doesn’t really celebrate (since we’re usually coming off all the Jewish high holidays which kept our early Fall pretty busy!), it didn’t feel right to let it pass. I’m not positive about the things I’m thankful for this year, since my life is in such crazy flux! But despite all that, I know I am thankful for family and friends that will always ensure I have a roof over my head and food on my plate; for cool fall days with colourful leaves that are perfect for a snuggle with the dog(s) on the couch; for life’s simple pleasures that never fail to brighten my day. I’m thankful for good books with strong women to look up to, I’m thankful for movies and tv shows that let me view the world with new eyes, and I’m thankful for the ease that our generation can travel the world with out bodies. There’s lots of turmoil in my life, yes. But the world is still big and beautiful and worthy of exploring, and that magic is what I will always be thankful for. . . .
