Remember! When companies lay off all their staff because AI is cheaper, this sort of shit is what you can leverage for a better contract when they are inevitably forced to hire everyone back :)
Collins is gone.
Namaygoosisagagun First Nation/Collins has burned to the ground. The entire community is nothing but ashes after being quickly consumed by wildfires. They did not have any support from emergency services, and no one offered aid. The community saved themselves by escaping into boats because no one came.
Mishkeegogamang and Cat Lake have lost power. Families are ending up in shelters with nothing. Armstrong, Lac La Croix, Whitesand, Gull Bay, Lac des Mille Lacs are currently in the fires path and all members are being evacuated.
All this loss, all this devastation, and it was entirely preventable.
After steadily underfunding wildland firefighting and purposefully excluding Indigenous wildland firefighters and Indigenous wildfire organizations from wildfire operations, firefighter training, decisionmaking, and resource exchanges, in 2025, Doug Ford slashed the forest firefighting budget.
It's hard to ignore his decision to cut funding and leave us out of adequate fire training (even though we've lived with forest fires for thousands of years—far longer than settlers have been in Canada—and made sure fires like the ones we're all seeing today were prevented through kinisitotēn) when, despite making up less than 5% of the population, we account for 42% percent of all wildfire evacuations in Canada.
And when we are successfully evacuated, we face discrimination and racism—like Kashechewan—because it's always been easier to blame us than it is to blame the true culprit: denialism, corportate greed, and colonization.
The people of Collins and every other impacted community deserve better.
Right now, the AFN is currently accepting donations to help Collins First Nation. If you're able to, please consider donating.
ONWA (Ontario Native Women's Association) is another great place to donate to. They have outreach vans going to motels and inns and offering food, water, resources, and cultural support to those impacted by the wildfires.
Other places to consider donating to are Mikinakoos Emergency Fund, Red Cross, True North Aid, Indigenous Climate Action. You can also send donations directly to Whitesand First Nation via e-transfer ([email protected]) and they request that you add your full name in the e-transfer comment section to receive a tax receipt.
*Before sending money, verify that the appeal appears on an official First Nation, Tribal Council or registered charity channel.
If you can't offer financial support, please consider donating items of need. Moontime Connections is currently accepting drop-off donations. If you live in the Thunder Bay area, Namaygoosisagagun Health Office is also taking in donations! They can also bemailed to Superior Inn Hotel & Conference Centre at 555 West Arthur Street, Thunder Bay, ON, P7E 5P8.
items needed are: food, diapers, medical masks, men’s and women’s joggers (all sizes), children’s clothing (newborn to size 14), children’s shoes, summer clothing, men’s clothing, toiletries (lotion, Vaseline, toothpaste, toothbrushes, shampoo, conditioner, soap, deodorant, etc.), strollers, adult depends-all sizes, dog & cat food

250 years and most native tribal groups continue to not be federally recognized. Embarrassing!
Hey so a small thing that literally everyone who sees this is capable of is correcting any “used to” statements about native people in this country.
“Native people used to live in this National Park” No. They still do.
“Native people used to tell these stories-” No. They still do.
“Native people used to use this plant as a natural remedy-” No. They still do.
Better yet, familiarize yourself with the tribes local to you. Odds are, they do not yet have federal recognition. You can still read the stories they have to share, you can share their ongoing battle for recognition with others, you can sign petitions and spread the word to others to do so as well. But do something.
More wholesome ranchers art cause I love them sm and they make me sick. I genuinely need to get a hobby bro but like it's summer and I'm so BOREDDDD anyway I miss them.
Also if anyone has like good ranchers fics or art they wanna send my way, PLEASE DOOOOOOOO I'm desperate
One word and one word only
RANCHERS:D?
I have one word for you! RANCHERS. I ADORE THEM SO MUCH. And with the fear that I might never write my TTABTT!Rancher one-shot, here is the whole backstory of Jimmy and Tango in ‘To Teach a Bird To Trust’! (That's why this ask took so long for me to respond to, sorry!)
Jimmy bounced around houses a lot in his childhood. As a hybrid orphan, he was dealt a terrible hand, often being blamed for the bad luck that followed him. But his luck must not have been that bad if he managed, by pure chance, to bump into Tango, a fire hybrid who had been caught in a terrible rainstorm unprepared. Thankfully, Jimmy had an umbrella and protected him from the rain. And while Jimmy never saw him again afterwards, he never forgot that night. The first time he had ever seen another hybrid and also the first time he had been shown kindness.
Years passed; Jimmy aged out of the system, hid his hybridness completely, got control over his life, and lived it exclusively in solidarity. He liked living alone, talking to no one, drinking with his head down; at least that was what he told himself. However, one evening, after visiting a new spot for liquid comfort, a rainstorm started- a real brutal one. He had no umbrella and was now stuck in the entryway of the pub until it calmed down. Just his luck…
Then, he felt warmth by his side. He turned to see that fire hybrid from all those years ago. Now returning the favour and shielding him from the rain. They sparked up a conversation that flowed so easily as Tango walked him home. And then he stayed the night. And the night after that. And soon, they became one unit, and Jimmy joined the group at the pub. No labels really fit them; boyfriend was too light and unserious, and neither cared for marriage, so they just stayed as Jimmy and Tango. The two have a dream to eventually move out of the city to a farm in the countryside, be completely independent and tend to animals in their spare time. The pet name Rancher now a silent decree to their shared dream.
Some parts of their story do get mentioned briefly, like how the two lost their jobs and nearly became homeless. It was in the winter, when they couldn’t afford heating, and Tango got drastically ill because of it. After that, Jimmy swore to do anything to protect him. And he did. Which gained the attention of X…
Also, because I didn't do TTABTT!Jimmy's song in this ask, I'm letting you all know now it is Imposter Syndrome by Sidney Gish.
Thank you and goodnight.
“Have you ever loved someone?” The question came out of the blue. It caught Jimmy off guard, Tango usually wasn’t the one with the big existential questions. Tango turned to look at him, expectantly.
Jimmy paused for a moment. “I mean, I love you.” He furrowed his brow slightly, trying to figure out what Tango was getting at.
Tango shook his head. “No, not like that. I mean like what Joel and Lizzie have, like real love.” There was a sort of pleading in his expression.
Again, Jimmy paused. He hadn’t really thought about it before but now that he did… “I don’t think one kind of love is more real than another. I love you, and I love Grian and Pearl, and that’s just as real as anything else.”
That idea seemed to take Tango aback slightly, but it didn’t calm his distress. “But that’s different. Grian and Pearl are your siblings and whatever it is we have isn’t…” He trailed off.
“It’s still love.” Jimmy shuffled over to wrap an arm around Tango. “Just because it’s not what Lizzie and Joel have doesn’t mean it’s any less important.”
Tango leaned into the embrace, sighing. “I never really thought about it that way.”
Jimmy rested his chin in the crook of Tango’s neck. “How were you thinking about it?”
Tango let out another big sigh, resting his head against Jimmy’s. “I don’t know… like something was wrong or I was missing something because I just didn’t… I haven’t felt like that.”
“Nothing's wrong with that. I love you.” Jimmy emphasized his words.
Tango twisted to look Jimmy in the eyes. “I love you too.”
Oops my ranchers turned into misplaced cake toppers
Tumblr's notifications haven't been working for over a months now but they instead put out an update to uglify the website, great
Creationists are mostly men because they've never had their period.
Tbh I think the "but data centers are important infrastructure, not just AI" talking point misses that like
Ok so roads are important infrastructure. A lot of stuff that's important happens on roads. Now, let's imagine that quadrillionaire Matt Stench has decided that the next big tech innovation is the Wide Car. It's a car that takes up six lanes despite seating only one passenger.
The Wide Car is supposed to be the future, and everyone's going to be driving Wide Cars, even though nobody who makes Wide Cars is turning a profit. Employers are offering Wide Cars as an employee benefit, and getting "nah." Some employers are going as far as demanding their employees drive Wide Cars, and the result is that people take time out of their workdays to get in the mandatory gas usage for their Wide Car before driving home in a regular car.
In spite of the fact that the Wide Car is clearly set to fail, there's an enormous push to expand to twelve-lane roads to accommodate a bunch of Wide Cars that simply will not materialize. This is not an organic response to demand, but a speculative investment that amplifies the existing issues with road development for no good reason.
That is the problem.
Oh and the road infrastructure project is buying up resources other people could have used for literally anything else. With money they promise they'll be making from Wide Car sales any day now.
Okay so what I'm getting from the notes is that when you try to transplant some techbro nonsense into an offline equivalent, you have to be careful to avoid simply inventing something the Americans are already doing in real life
The other thing about AI data centers is they're incredibly purpose-specific. A data center built to be packed with GPUs is not a normal data center, and most the things people actually want to do--browse websites, use apps, talk to their friends, post, whatever--don't require GPUs.
These data centers aren't even useful in their own right.
I'm one of the people who've used large amounts of GPUs for research purposes, and it's way worse: A fraction of the power of many of these data centers could be used to power an entire PhD's worth of research, but they're being used to do This Bullshit instead.
I'm gonna say it, I do think that even the laziest person imaginable should have a roof over their head, food in their stomach, and access to healthcare
idk i would personally rather give up access to certain products seasonally or locally than have people enslaved to give me the ability to have any product any place any time. i think i can go without tomatoes in january.
i truly do think that most people if confronted with it and pressed on it would agree. but it's comfortable to gain privileges from someone else's suffering, especially if you don't have to see that suffering directly.
