I decided to make a discord server specifically for talking about the clones, because I love them
Thanks for the Memories
Author's Note: This is inspired by a mini-analysis that I wrote when I reblogged someone else's analysis on why Echo would be the perfect representative of the clones. My mini-analysis was about how Echo got along so well with the Bad Batch because of the similarities between them and Domino Squad. So, I decided to make a drabble out of it! This will probably be sad, but I promise there will be comfort at the end. Enjoy! Also, just so no one gets a heart attack about reposting, I first published this drabble on the Bad Batch fans united community, and I wanted to publish it on my regular blog, as well.
At first, Echo wasn't sure what it was.
He was happy with the Bad Batch, of course. They'd welcomed him once he proved he could be trusted. They didn't compare him to the regs as they'd called them; for them, there was nothing for Echo to be compared to. They hadn't known him before.
All this to say, Echo was happy with the Bad Batch. But there would be times he'd be hanging out with them, and he just felt sad. And he had no idea why.
But one day, Hunter and Tech were arguing - not a serious argument, just trying to get under one another's skin, each trying to annoy the other. As vode tend to do. Hunter had just said something particularly obnoxious - and scientifically incorrect - that caused Tech to lunge -
And Echo remembered.
Crosshair and Wrecker saw Tech trying to knock Hunter off of his high horse. But Echo? He saw himself, lunging at Hevy, trying to get his big brother to shut his kriffing mouth -
Echo swallowed, looking away from his younger brothers tussling on the floor, and tried to keep it together. He would say he hadn't thought about Hevy in ages, but that would be a lie. He thought about his oldest batchmate at least once a day, wondering if Hevy would be proud of him.
Now that he was consciously thinking about him, he couldn't help but see similarities between Hevy and Hunter. The most obvious similarity was that they were both over-protective, and the oldest of their respective batches. But he could also see that Hunter was just as steadfast as Hevy was. Loyal, too. It got to the point where Echo was seeing so many similarities between them that he had to catch himself, about to call Hunter a name that wasn't his.
Once he noticed the similarities between Hunter and Hevy, he started noticing other things connecting the Bad Batch to Domino Squad. Crosshair unleashed that sharp wit of his, perfectly timed to make them all crack up; in the back of his mind, Echo heard Cutup sassing Bric for the millionth time, while the rest of them tried to hide their laughter. Wrecker would be roughhousing, or suggesting the wildest possible solutions for their missions, and Echo would be seeing Fives, encouraging them to push through with crazy ideas when they realized that Bric had sabotaged their second attempt at the Citadel exam. Even Tech, telling the Batch about any information he found was reminiscent of Echo himself, when he was a shiny to echoed all the orders and read the reg manuals for fun.
Since he'd been thinking about it so much, it was no wonder that Echo's dreams started taking a depressing turn. He back on the Rishi Moon base, as he was rather than as the shiny he had been, and the batch was there alongside Sargent O'Niner and Nub. Echo knew the attack was coming, but every time he tried to warn them, he could feel something choking him, stopping him from speaking. That wasn't the worst of it, though.
When dream-Droidbait looked at Echo, he let out a little screech of fear, before letting out a nervous laugh.
"Damn, vod," he said. "And here I thought I was the only droid bait in our squad."
Echo let out a wounded noise, but before he could say or do anything else, a blaster bold came out of nowhere, sending Echo's batchmate to the ground. Then, there were droids everywhere, mowing down Echo's brothers, but leaving him alive. Echo let out a scream, trying to move, pick up his blaster, anything -
And then he woke up.
Echo gasped, thrashing in his bunk. Before he could hurt himself, or anyone else, a hand rested on his.
"Easy, Echo. Deep breaths, vod. You're okay."
Hevy?
Echo did what his brother said, trying to breathe. When he finally got his breathing under control, Echo spoke without thinking. "Thanks, Hevy."
"Hevy?"
Kriff.
Echo forced himself to meet Hunter's eyes. Hunter didn't look upset, just confused. "Who's Hevy?"
"He - err..." Echo rubbed the back of his neck sheepishly. "Hevy was one of my original batchmates. From Domino. You're... You're a bit like him, Hunter."
Hunter hummed thoughtfully. "Should I take that as a compliment?"
Echo snorted. "You know what? Yeah, you should. Hevy was one of the most steadfast brothers I've ever met."
"Steadfast, huh?" Hunter looked pleased. "I like the sound of that."
Wrecker, who had apparently been listening, chose that moment to speak up. "What about me, Echo? Do I remind you of someone from your batch?" Echo smiled at the hopeful expression on Wrecker's face.
"You, Wrecker, remind me of Fives."
Echo relished in the way everyone's mouths dropped open at that. After all, Echo and Rex had told them all about Fives. Echo's twin, one of the best ARC troopers the 501st had ever had. That Wrecker reminded Echo of Fives... They understood the significance of that.
It seemed like the floodgates had been opened, and Echo spent the rest of the night telling his younger brothers how they each reminded him of Domino Squad. He was able to laugh about their antics, talk about their victories. The hardest part was when Echo finally told the Batch about what happened at the Rishi Moon base. He couldn't stop himself from crying; he missed his brothers so much.
Even so, when all was said and done, and Echo was bundled up in a vod pile with Hunter, Tech, Wrecker, and Crosshair, he couldn't regret any of it. As much as Echo missed his original batchmates, he still loved his vod'ike with all his heart. And he could only be grateful for the love they gave him, the love that reminded him so much of his Domino brothers in the first place.
Echo let himself feel that love, and when he fell asleep with his little brothers, he didn't have a single bad dream.
✨UPDATE!!!✨
All chapters of my clone rebellion fic are now posted on Ao3!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Some notes about the story:
▪️Begins immediately after the Tantiss breakout in the Bad Batch season 3 finale
▪️Canon compliant, intended to be a continuation of the clone stories set up in The Clone Wars and Bad Batch, and ultimately matching up with certain plot points in Rebels
***Sub-note: if you know me or have read some of my posts here on tumblr, you likely know that some popular potential narrative points, which others may consider "fix-its," I consider to be canon compliant
▪️Features Rex, Echo, the Bad Batch, Gregor, Howzer, Wolffe, Cody, and Emerie
▪️Also features Phee, Riyo, and several clone OCs
▪️Touches more on the fallout of Order 66 as it relates to the clones, as well as the Path
▪️(Mostly) happy ending (I say "mostly" because, you know, we're dealing with a clone rebellion and the Galactic Empire here)
▪️Rated T (teen) for the action/battles/clone mistreatment/Star Wars politics elements; romantic relationships hinted at, but this work does not include any romantic actions beyond hand-holding, nor does it involve clone-shipping
If you decide to read, hope you enjoy!!! 😊
I'm reblogging this because I really want to read this fic, and I don't wanna lose the link. (If this just happens to let the author receive more love for their work, then consider that a... happy coincidence 😌
Take a screenshot of the GIF below…the Batch member you capture is your roadtrip buddy. 🚙
Share your screenshot and answer the following questions:
1️⃣ On a scale of 1 to 10, how excited are you about your roadtrip buddy?
2️⃣ Which of you is picking the roadtrip snacks?
3️⃣ Which of you is making the playlist?
4️⃣ Which of you is driving?
5️⃣ How likely will you be stopping at tourist traps?
BONUS QUESTION for the cheaters amongst us 😌: How many screenshots did you have to take before you got the Batcher you wanted? 😏
I know I wasn't tagged in this, but I figured I'd do it anyway, since it seems fun!
I'd rate my excitement at a level 8! I adore Wrecker, but I am an introvert, so some of his shenanigans might be a bit overwhelming for me sometimes. However, he's also pretty emotionally intelligent, so I'm not too worried.
I'd probably pick the snacks, because I have specific tastes and I don't like to waste money on snacks I won't like. I will make sure to ask Wrecker what he likes, though. I want to make sure we both have snacks we'll enjoy!
I think we would collaborate on the playlist. My music taste is pretty diverse, but it's also specific at the same time. I hope that Wrecker would like the music I listen to, but I'll be happier if I know that there will be music that Wrecker likes on the playlist alongside the music that I like.
Wrecker will be driving. Driving terrifies me. Plus, I'll never forget that when the Bad Batch was introduced in the Clone Wars, and they were experiencing turbulence entering Skako Minor, Wrecker was the one who ran into the cockpit to take the copilot's seat.
I suppose it depends. I personally like to spend money on experiences rather than items, at least when it comes to vacations. I feel like Wrecker, who loves to make things explode, would feel the same. If the tourist trap is an experience, like a boat tour through a cave system, rather than, say, a gift shop with overpriced junk (cough cough Mystery Shack cough cough), I'd be happy to do it, and I think Wrecker would be, too.
Believe it or not, Wrecker was the result of my first screenshot. I love all the Bad Batchers, and it's hard to pick a favorite, but Wrecker is such a sweetheart and an amazing character that I was perfectly happy to do this activity with him in mind.
Thoughts on Echo as a Senator
I’ve seen a ton of people saying the Fives would be the perfect representative of the clones in an AU where Order 66 was forestalled and the clones were able to obtain rights and a Senate seat, etc… but I actually think he’s the wrong Domino twin to assume this role. I think the perfect, most willing and capable person to represent the clones would be Echo.
Note: I’m still working my way through certain seasons of TCW, so bear with me on this… I might update this post later based on new observations. (I’m stopping the analysis at the end of the TCW Bad Batch arc because the only way I see Echo actually becoming a senator is if Order 66 was stopped by the clones and the Jedi.)
In the Clone Cadets episode when Echo and Fives go to Shaak Ti to ask for a transfer, Fives doesn’t say very much because Echo is the one taking the lead. Echo is the one advocating for himself and his brother. As much as he doesn’t want his squad to fail as a whole, he definitely doesn’t want Fives to get stuck on Kamino as a ‘defect’ and he doesn’t want to, either. He’s willing to go above their trainers’ heads and speak directly to the Jedi (who the clone may or may not be very fond of at the point depending on what they’ve been taught on Kamino, because there’s no way Shaak could have personally interacted with every single trooper) in charge, demonstrating a resolve and sense of justice that required him to do something regardless of how effective his request might be.
In Rookies, Echo isn’t the first to speak to Cody and Rex when they arrive after the attack, but he is the one who tried to share helpful information that would have kept his brothers safe and displayed sorrow for Cutup when they didn’t listen. (The sergeant also looked to Echo first for information after the attack and didn’t really have anything to say to him while chastising the others at the beginning, so that’s something, too.) He speaks up to answer Rex’s questions, and though he still shows concern later on when they retake the base because he doesn’t want to lose any more of his squad, he’s the first to present the liquid tibanna as a way to even the odds (a plan that while a bit crazy, was formulated quickly and logically and ultimately succeeded).
In On the Wings of Keeradaks, not only does Echo push himself to the brink as soon as he’s out of that stasis chamber in order to help his siblings, most of whom he has never met, escape the Techno Union, he turns the results of how his captors butchered his body into their escape plan by hacking the systems and plotting their way out. There are so many more things in this episode that I could include in this list, but the main one that comes to mind is how Echo reacts when Rex points at him and says look what they did to my brother. He doesn’t cower back, ashamed to let his scars and trauma be seen – he steps forward. At this point he has been starved and enslaved, saddled with eternal medical, physical, and spiritual trauma, and yet instead of sitting down to process his own pain this man walks forward on legs that are a representation of how he was mutilated and hurt, baring a chest that’s scarred and caving in from the torment he’s endured, to present himself as a warning of what will happen to others if action isn’t taken, as a prophet of what evil exists hidden beyond the sheen of compliance most people don’t want to peek past.
Can I say anything about Unfinished Business that isn’t abundantly clear? Echo pushed himself to the limit again, trying to prove his loyalty but also doing his best to protect Rex and, unbeknownst to him, his newfound squad. He almost fries himself in Tambor’s ship and then leaves everything he’s ever known, the only close brother he has left, to help where he can (plus he gets four new brothers out of the deal but still, that’s a major sacrifice).
Basically, I love Echo to death and think HE is actually the one who would do best in representing the clones in the Senate, because he is...
Selfless
Loyal
Determine
A Leader.
This wasn’t supposed to be so long but oh well.
I agree with everything in this! As much as I love Fives, I know that he can be a bit hotheaded. Of course, Fives's loyalty and bravery is admirable, but there were times he could be a tad bit... Idealistic doesn't feel like the best word, but I also can't think of a better one. ig I draw that conclusion from the Umbara arc and the chips arc, where Fives basically demonstrated: "I'm telling the truth/doing the right thing, so people should believe what I'm saying/support what I'm doing." Usually, that would work. But considering that he was dealing with Palpatine/Krell for each respective incident, his way of thinking didn't work. I think if Echo had been there, he might have helped keep Fives on a more even keel.
Aside from that, I also love Echo. He and Fives are tied as my favorites behind Rex. Echo is such a good big brother, and this is very much shown in The Bad Batch. I think that the Bad Batch reminds him of Fives to some extent, mainly in their loyalty to each other and the way they can be a bit reckless. I also think that the Bad Batch is a second chance for Echo, especially considering his past with Domino Squad. The way I see it, Hunter is like Hevy, Wrecker is like Fives, Crosshair is like Cutup. As for Tech, I think he's more like early-series Echo rather than Droidbait, but I'm still seeing the parallels.
Oh boy. I was only going to add the things I love about Echo to add to OP's original analysis, but I ended up doing a mini-analysis of my own! Whoops? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Hey, guys! I forgot to post a link to my blog last week, but here's the link for this week's chapter of First Rule of Fight Club! I hope you enjoy, but if you've been using the Tumblr links, don't forget to read last week's chapter before you read this one! Have fun!
Hey, y'all, wanted to keep you updated. Unfortunately I did not have time to finish this week's chapter of First Rule of Fight Club in time for tomorrow. I'll try to get it done ASAP, though. Sorry about the wait!
Hey, y'all! I just posted the next chapter of First Rule of Fight club! I hope you enjoy it!
FizzaRolli wasn't used to feeling shitty about making Blitzo feel shitty. But, he guessed, this time, he was actually making a young woman feel shitty about her dad being missing. So, maybe Queen Bee had a point. Meanwhile, Blitz was waking up to something that felt like it should be a hangover, hoping against all hope that he hasn't shattered his daughter's trust in him for good.
