Winning the World Series never gets old, especially since it took ninety-five years to win it at home. I spent the final game sitting on the couch next to my father who is responsible for doing this to me. “This” meaning that year after year, I invest in a team that pulls out my heartstrings and in an intense, drawn out, one sided love affair. I have spent so many Octobers regretting my investment but this season, we were rewarded with the World Series trophy.
After a spring of horror, despair and fear, the Red Sox have turned it around for Boston and this World Series feels different than the other two. 2004 was about beating the odds and overcoming the curse. 2007 was more about John Lester, Dustin Pedroia and good luck. 2013 was about the city getting back on its feet. As Papi proclaimed at the first home game after the marathon, “this is our *&@$#%^ city!”
The victory duck boat parade is slated for Saturday morning. Part of the route will take the players right where the marathon bombings occurred. Just six months ago, this part of Boston was a crime scene but the city has battled back with the help of the Red Sox and the hard work and good will of the people of Boston and beyond, to reclaim Boylston street and take our *&@$#%^ city back.

Easy Access Pheiress Jeans are a recently patented new design of jeans for those who don't have time to take their pants off before having a sexual encounter. The creator of Pheriess wanted to call them "Gaga" jeans but Lady Gaga's team of lawyers struck that down. These are very current and cutting edge, both in fashion and vulgarity. They will be sold for $10,000 which is a steal to have discreet sex in public places. Just good luck zipping the jeans back up post coitus. I wonder how many of these Pheiress Jeans wearing ladies will end up in the Emergency Room with an embarrassing zipper situation...
From Homeless to Harvard
When David Boone decided he didn't want to join a gang in inner city Cleveland, gangsters shot at his house, leaving his family homeless. He found school to be both a safe haven and a way to propel himself to a fulfilling life. David's story warms my heart. He proves that there are people out there who can overcome adversity as well as those that will go out of their way to support people and keep them on the road towards success. I wish there were more of these stories in the news.
Fear the Beards
For a team that was supposed to be part of a rebuilding year, these bearded warriors have done a pretty good job of winning games, getting clutch hits and keeping the Red Sox in the hunt. Tonight is Game 3 of the ALDS and we are going up against the Tampa Bay Rays with a 2-0 series lead. I would love to win big tonight, have a few days off and then pick up where we left off in the ALCS.
Boston has been through so much this year. A championship followed by a mammoth parade celebration down Boylston Street would send a message to the city, surrounding communities and rest of the world that Big Papi (David Ortiz) announced in the first home game after the Marathon Bombing: “This is our fucking city.”
Jon Stewart and David Letterman made light of the recent government shutdown which briefly took my mind away from how self-serving, desperate and moronic the Republicans are being. Because it would be soooo terrible to let the poor and middle class have the same healthcare opportunities as the elite. I hope, with each hour that millions hardworking of government workers don't get paid, millions more don't get the services they need, and $12.5 million dollars that America will lose per hour over the shutdown, Americans who only get their political information from FoxNews will realize that the Republican Party, especially the Tea Party, is not acting in their best interest.
To protest, I am refraining from wearing red until the Republicans get their act together.
In today's WTF news...
For all of those times when you can't create the right atmosphere for your anonymous sexy times, just bring your own! Portable glory hole is perfect when you need a sexual encounter but don't have the balls to let someone actually see your balls. Fits in doorjams, hallways and disassembles to be packed in a suitcase.
Britney's back. Yes, "Work Bitch" is as overly processed as a Kardashian or anything on the menu at Taco Bell but Britney's actually busting a move. She struts, dances, throws around her weave like it's 2001 all over again. It made me happy to watch her climb back to the top of the pop tarts. Everyone loves a good comeback.
Real Monster: Anxiety
I need to improve my creature and stylized sculpting and ran into these “Real Monsters” by Toby Allen (http://zestydoesthings.tumblr.com). And asked if I could model them, he agreed. I am going to model more of the little monsters and I might do some more of the concepts as they come along.

(EDIT- It might be worth saying that model in the photo isn’t real, its the 3D model placed over a photo with very clever lighting to make it look real. I had to look twice the first time to check if it was real or not.. But it isn’t a real life model yet.)

Extended Family Issues
Why is being around your entire extended family so unpleasant? It's like all of the unresolved issues from the previous generation(s) spill down and now everyone is affected by built up tension from years past. You would think gathering altogether would be fun and meaningful but my recent visit with my extended family proved otherwise.
For my family, the planning process is particularly difficult, irritating and crazy-making. Everyone wants their plan to be the final plan and there are numerous phone calls, arguments and back and forth before we settle on a plan that no one wants. And once the plan is confirmed, we have to wait to do the plan followed by the compulsory participation element (note: some family members don't have to life a finger while it's expected that other ones will prepare/serve/clean/keep up the withering conversation).
And throughout the planning and orchestration process, whether anyone actually enjoys themselves is not high on the list of objectives. What matters is that everyone is there and if you look nice. How you feel throughout the process is not considered.
It's amazing to me how my semi-functional immediate family unit dissolves immediately upon entering an extended family environment. I often choose not to go which greatly upsets my mother because then she looks bad. The fact that I spend my time off from work around relatives that cause me to feel riled up, anxious and miserable is not important during to her during these visits.
This past trip was so uncomfortable and upsetting that I have stated that I will not be attending the next one. My mother is furious because next up is a wedding and I have to go because "that's just what you do with family"-- regardless of how rude, obnoxious, disinterested and ungrateful they are. To me, how I feel trumps how things look and I look forward to planning my own special non-family weekend.
