I'm convinced we no longer live even in the microblogging era. We live in the group chat era. Twitblr, Facebook, Discord, etc are big and semi-public group chats with different ways of presenting and especially synchronizing feeds. For instance Discord is hard synchronized while Twitblr feeds are more weakly synchronized. Even then, at least here on Tumblr, mutuals anx the culture of reblogging tends to make things converge into clusters of similar users. They're all functionally the same idea, a fast-moving stream of messages, some free-standing and others organized into threads.

I guess you could also say that IM software grew to resemble blogging, but I think what I'm trying to get at is that posts are mostly not documents anymore, they're comparatively high-context in the way that messages are.
