âIf youâre wondering why theyâre working this hard to keep you from voting, the answer slipped out of Todd Blancheâs mouth this spring. Standing on a stage at the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) outside Dallas, the man whoâd been Trumpâs personal criminal defense lawyer and who now runs the Justice Department as acting Attorney General told the crowd, â[E]verybodyâs afraid that the next administration, if we donât win, weâre going to all be investigated and indicted.â He meant it as a rallying cry. What he actually delivered was a confession: you donât spend your evenings bracing for an indictment unless some quiet part of you already knows what youâve done. A reckoning is coming for the people breaking the law for this president, and they can feel it.â
â This confession proves Trumpâs terrified cronies know whatâs coming for them
but what if i read one of your fanfics and then went to your ao3 accounts and read all of your fanfics and left a comment on every single chapter of every single one and you got spam emails from all of my kudos and comments and it made you smile, what then? what if i brighten your day with my words like you did mine, what then???

People pretend that seeing the bad things in life is the smarter, more clear-eyed position, but really, people who refuse to notice the good things are just as blind as the people who refuse to notice the bad things, plus they're more miserable.
Cynicism masquerades as wisdom, but it is the farthest thing from it. Because cynics donât learn anything. Because cynicism is a self-imposed blindness, a rejection of the world because we are afraid it will hurt us or disappoint us. Cynics always say no. But saying yes begins things. Saying yes is how things grow. Saying yes leads to knowledge. Yes is for young people. So for as long as you have the strength to, say yes.

Violence: A Writerâs Guide:Â This is not about writing technique. It is an introduction to the world of violence. To the parts that people donât understand. The parts that books and movies get wrong. Hurting Your Characters: HURTING YOUR CHARACTERS discusses the immediate effect of trauma on the body, its physiologic response, including the types of nerve fibers and the sensations they convey, and how injuries feel to the character. This book also presents a simplified overview of the expected recovery times for the injuries discussed in young, otherwise healthy individuals.
Body Trauma: A writerâs guide to wounds and injuries. Body Trauma explains what happens to body organs and bones maimed by accident or intent and the small window of opportunity for emergency treatment. 10 B.S. Medical Tropes that Need to Die TODAYâŠand What to Do Instead: Written by a paramedic and writer with a decade of experience, 10 BS Medical Tropes covers exactly that: clichĂ©d and inaccurate tropes that not only ruin books, they have the potential to hurt real people in the real world.Â
Maim Your Characters: How Injuries Work in Fiction: Increase Realism. Raise the Stakes. Tell Better Stories. Maim Your Characters is the definitive guide to using wounds and injuries to their greatest effect in your story. The Onion is truly a national treasure.
Holy shit! Man walks on fucking moon!
some people donât deserve fanfics, much less for free.
also even if authors didnât tag any specific warnings but they used the âcreator chose not to use archive warningsâ tag, then that is your warning.
âomg you shouldâve ââ no one forced your entitled ass to read anything. fanfic writers write for themselves and their own enjoyment. if you donât like what youâre reading, quietly leave. ao3 is not an airport. no one cares about your departure so no need to announce it.
#fanfic#I mean#whatâre yâall thinkinâ the E means out there#Expressive?#Excellent?#Energetic?#and ffs#do you return a book you buy the moment it has smut?#yâall think that just because youâre given the mode to communicate#it gives you leave to say ALL THE THINGS#donât. just. DONâT.
@ishipanarmada these are too good to leave in the tags
Nah, the "but in games E is for Everyone" excuse doesn't work for me. And I say that as someone who hears the voiceover ad in their head when I see an E rating on a fic.
E is for Explicit on AO3. This is made VERY clear on multiple levels. If you mouseover, it says Explicit. The color is red, which indicates warning level. And additionally, OP said there was also a tag for explicit content.
This isn't someone making an honest mistake, it's someone who has decided how the world works and is upset that the rest of the world doesn't agree. It is beyond simple to filter out fics containing Explicit material. It's right there in the sidebar. TBH I wonder if the commenter knew full well that it was going to be explicit and is trying to shame the author (ineffectually) for daring to include explicit content in their explicit fic that has explicit warnings.
Like the commenter I'm someone who gets squicked by sex scenes. HOWEVER! I work to avoid that content by using filters rather than blaming the author, which is fucking stupid. I will also just... skim past the sex scenes to get to the rest of the story. It's a mild (VERY mild) inconvenience- for me personally- but I can't expect every author I read to cater their content specifically to my needs and weird little hangups. The fact that a certain segment of the population seems to be growing up expecting exactly that is a little concerning.
The âE is for Everyoneâ from games also doesnât work because this person, who apparently is so sensitive to this issue that they are heartbroken (đđ) when they encounter explicit material, nevertheless saw the âFiltersâ button and ignored it. Youâd think that if you were that sensitive, the word âFiltersâ would catch your eye.
And then theyâd have known what the âEâ stands for:
right wing handwringing over birth rates has always unsubtly been a combination of wanting more white babies/wanting control over women, so it's bothersome that the popular response to that is just pointing out the cost of living. "we Would be having more kids if you guys made some positive changes to society" and such. pronatalist sentiment is becoming so much more explicit that I don't think many self-styled progressives are ready to reconcile with the fact that many women simply do not want to have children. we already see how women are demonized for refusing to undertake the thankless burdens of their mother and grandmother's generations lol, I can't imagine how full abdication from child rearing will come across to some people.
I can't even see "we Would be having kids" as a strategic approach to get conservatives to consider advocating for a higher quality of life considering that they truly could not care less if you, specifically, are poor. it's true that more couples would have kids if it was cheaper, but that will not be enough for these types until women's subservience is codified. even now, they consider the lack of child rearing in today's insane society to be a matter of selfishness. they view themselves as completely different animals than you. they have and will continue to advocate for more advantages for people of their specific backgrounds and income brackets to reinforce this lol.
joining the war on kids reading any book they want on the side of kids reading any book they want. simply you will be fine. it's even good to be confronted with things you don't understand and even find upsetting, uncomfortable and difficult. it's a surprise tool that will help you later.

literally ok so not a funny story but kind of funny? when I was nine I encountered rape in a book and I was like hey mom whatâs this mean and she explained it and I was like oh. gross. and then like two weeks later a girl on the bus abruptly disclosed her csa and we were all like ????? what ???? but I was like wait hang on thereâs a word for that âïžđ€Â and explained what it meant and that it was illegal and that you could talk to a teacher or my mom if it had happened to you and everyone was like ohhhhh I see I see and very somberly comforted the girl (she was safe she was removed from her home and living with my neighbor at the time so it wasnât Urgent)
And this is a perfect illustration of why it is important for kids to read or variety of things, and why abusers donât want them to.
