tt Alisa x Nash shippers are really amazing because they remind me that i can just ignore the fact that I just witnessed that post, I don't have to care about what other people think, and that it's just a book. it's like a maturity exercise.
i might have said this before but I hate the hair cutting trope. 0/10 why do we all need a raggedy chin length bob to let something go? can't we go for shoulder length or something? it's just terrible. absolutely not, not on my watch. as soon as I read something like that I turn the blind eye and continue to picture their luscious long shiny hair cause I'm the boss and I can do whatever I want.
They go from calling every day multiple times a day to once a day to only some days.
Xander got very involved with his own projects and internships when he went to college.
At the same time, seeing and hearing all of Max's stories about her thriving in college, Xander feared he would come across as too clingy or interfere with her freedom if he went to visit her too often, for example.
Max would also have the same thoughts in regards to him and would pull back in fear of interfering with his busy schedule since he would often cut call short because he was in the middle of some new project.
He would send her gifts, as always, but Max would not get as excited anymore because she saw them as his low effort way of keeping her.
Xander was clueless of her feelings and thought everything was fine. He believed he was doing good by not "suffocating" her.
When they were together things would feel fine which is why it took Max long to realize she was unhappy long term.
Xander is a sweetheart and would also hold back on starting intimacy because the last thing he wanted was for Max to think he only sought her out in a lustful way.
Max on the other hand would interpret this as him not desiring her intimately as much as she did him which would cause some insecurity from her part.

She called him one day telling him she wanted to see him in person because they needed to talk.
He had sensed for weeks she was strange and, from the tone of her voice during that call, had inferred that this was gonna be a tough talk.
She suggested it was not working and they should stay friends, reassuring him that he was a nice guy.
They both teared up.
One last kiss. (ok one of those painfully tender, foreheads-touching after, eyes-closed, kinds of kisses? yeah just like that) Followed by a "goodbye, Xan"
They both cried right after the other left. Max in her apartment and Xander in his ride.
No one else knew this happened for the longest time because they were both off to college.
All except Nash, who Xander called right after and made him swear he would tell no one.
"I made her cry. You should have seen her she looked so unhappy."
"Oh, Xander."
Max usually stays at Hawthorne house for a couple weeks during her summer but she skipped out on it that year.
They were broken up for almost a year but neither of them approached anyone else.
When Ave found out, it was from Max, which she had questioned after noticing her best friends were acting strange.
Xander went into building excessive amounts of unnecessary stuff.
They were both there for Avery's birthday and it was painfully awkward.
