What is life if not a dream, a nightmare? Am I even real, do I even exist, do I want to? People talk and I listen, I talk and no one listens. Should I ever even bother with all the questions if no one answers? What am I if not a mask over nothing, a figment of my own imagination? Do I even enjoy it or have I managed to con myself like I have everyone else? When I smile I feel nothing, when I rage I do not scowl. Ave I really stumbled all this way jsut to finally fall, why have I wasted my time in getting to it? Can a shattered mirror ever be put back together, or shall I forever bear the wounds life has given me? Perhaps the point is there is no point, and strength is being able to live with that rather than lies. Can you redeem that which has not fallen? Can you tempt one who already has? Is there worth in the worthless? Is there worthlessness in the worthful? If life is a roller coaster why have I yet to vomit? What is a mask if not an attempt to hide, what is then a statement that doesn’t hide yet will never be seen?

These days, lots of public libraries have a "library of things" collection where you can check out kitchen appliances or yard tools or toys, and, as a children's library assistant, the most popular library of things item that I handle regularly is a plastic scepter thingy called like "unicorn princess magic wand". And whenever I check it out I make a big show of looking at the little kid and being like "do you solemnly swear to use your unicorn princess magic powers only for good and never for evil?"

And pretty much without fail, the little kid will get the world's most mischievous grin and go "I'm gonna use it for EVIL!!!"

One time I was at a pub trivia night with some writer friends and we almost won but there was a tie. As a tiebreaker they asked us and the other team to write down as many moons of Jupiter as we could in two minutes.

None of us are very into astronomy so at first everyone was like oh we’re gonna lose but there were three of us at the table that night who were either former classics majors or otherwise super well read on Roman mythology and the three of us were like give us that paper right now and we just took turns writing down all of the lovers of Jupiter from mythology that we could.

So of course we won lol

We need to isolate and start selectively breeding the plastic eating bacteria so we can optimise their efficiency, and then somehow splice their DNA into the gut bacteria of an obligate carnivore, so we can put it in our cats gut biomes so they'll finally be free of having to choose between whether they want to eat plastic or whether they want to live.

When you hear the news that there is a growing life expectancy gap between republicans and democrats partially because of the right-wing anti-science conspiracies that have taken hold (especially after COVID) you’re like “Lol. They owned the libs so hard they died.” and then you remember these are the same people having 6+ kids to populate the polls with their white Christian children and medically neglecting them. Then you squint at the data and realize it is not measuring voter data and life expectancy but life expectancy in red areas vs. blue areas and you realize that voter suppression, corruption, racism and poverty is actually killing the people in these places faster than the national average, not their own reactionary views. And you’re so angry it’s being presented like it’s their fault they’re dying.
