Fate, if it has any meaning, lies in the power of reversal. Eventually, the hunter will be felled by his own weapons and traps. For all its riches and might, Rome's destiny is to be consumed as Carthage was. Slaves will become their own masters, and the death march of civilisation will be forced into the triumph of life.
"The gods the children worshipped were the nameless ones that would one day become the gods of the First Men—the innumerable gods of the streams and forests and stones. It was the children who carved the weirwoods with faces, perhaps to give eyes to their gods so that they might watch their worshippers at their devotions.
Yet the First Men were less learned than we are now, and credited things that their descendants today do not; consider Maester Yorrick's Wed to the Sea, Being an Account of the History of White Harbor from Its Earliest Days, which recounts the practice of blood sacrifice to the old gods. Such sacrifices persisted as recently as five centuries ago, according to accounts from Maester Yorrick's predecessors at White Harbor." -TWOIAF -The Dawn Age
I've finished it ...at last . Children Of The Forest bringing sacrifice to the Old Gods .
frodo getting criticized for decades for not doing much / not being a hero compared to sam is fitting when you consider mental health and strength is often trivialized. frodo carried the most dangerous and insidious item in middle earth for YEARS. ancient beings (elves, gandalf, etc) were taunted and tempted by it. boromir was corrupted within weeks without even touching it. men and hobbits turned against their brethren for it. killed for it. and frodo, with a wound from a morgul knife, bore it’s weight when no one else could. had it been anyone else, middle earth would have fallen.
no, he couldn’t have done it without his samwise. but isn’t that a lesson in itself?
nolan's odyssey is like fennel's wuthering heights. it's a self indulgent bastardization where the original's only purpose is for easy name-recognition marketing. nolan's odyssey is nolan's incomplete, immature interpretation of the odyssey in the same way that fennel's wuthering heights is, by her own description, a manifestation of how reading the book at 14 years old made her feel. nolan's odyssey is a manifestation of how reading the odyssey made christopher nolan personally feel. it has no larger point to make or greater question to ask or idea to explore. it is just how christopher nolan feels about the odyssey as a middle aged british man. it has absolutely zero interest in the source material and its historical and cultural context the way fennel's wuthering heights has no interest in its source material. whether you find it novel or enjoyable will depend on how much you can resonate with a white millionaire man's shallow, elementary interpretation of a story he can barely grasp the meaning of because he cannot engage with it past it's immediate effect on his own limited identity and worldview, the same way wuthering heights was enjoyable if you were able to resonate with a white, old-money british woman's shallow, elementary interpretation of a story she could barely grasp the meaning of because she could not engage with it past its immediate effect on her being horny and wanting to fuck jacob elordi. both are effectively self insert fanfiction masquerading as adaptations because the aesthetic of historical dramas makes movies marginally more exciting, or they would if the costumes weren't terrible, when really both would have worked far better as truly just modern retellings, because that is what they fundamentally are, and the time periods in which they are set are not the cultural foundation of the story, but meaningless set dressing.
one of my favorite types of content is people who analyse low brow media with the same seriousness with which one generally uses to analyse artsy/prestige media. not cynicism, no mockery, no acting like they're above it, even if they think its bad. everything has themes even when not intended to be there, everything says something about the context in which it was made even if its not trying to, and sometimes the lack of depth betrays a different type of depth in what the media does not realize that its saying much more than the little that its saying on purpose. even if the craft is bad.

Seeing masculinity as dangerous isn't progressive and can harm queer people. Masculinity, femininity, and androgyny are all morally neutral.
Collins is gone.
Namaygoosisagagun First Nation/Collins has burned to the ground. The entire community is nothing but ashes after being quickly consumed by wildfires. They did not have any support from emergency services, and no one offered aid. The community saved themselves by escaping into boats because no one came.
Mishkeegogamang and Cat Lake have lost power. Families are ending up in shelters with nothing. Armstrong, Lac La Croix, Whitesand, Gull Bay, Lac des Mille Lacs are currently in the fires path and all members are being evacuated.
All this loss, all this devastation, and it was entirely preventable.
After steadily underfunding wildland firefighting and purposefully excluding Indigenous wildland firefighters and Indigenous wildfire organizations from wildfire operations, firefighter training, decisionmaking, and resource exchanges, in 2025, Doug Ford slashed the forest firefighting budget.
It's hard to ignore his decision to cut funding and leave us out of adequate fire training (even though we've lived with forest fires for thousands of years—far longer than settlers have been in Canada—and made sure fires like the ones we're all seeing today were prevented through kinisitotēn) when, despite making up less than 5% of the population, we account for 42% percent of all wildfire evacuations in Canada.
And when we are successfully evacuated, we face discrimination and racism—like Kashechewan—because it's always been easier to blame us than it is to blame the true culprit: denialism, corportate greed, and colonization.
The people of Collins and every other impacted community deserve better.
Right now, the AFN is currently accepting donations to help Collins First Nation. If you're able to, please consider donating.
ONWA (Ontario Native Women's Association) is another great place to donate to. They have outreach vans going to motels and inns and offering food, water, resources, and cultural support to those impacted by the wildfires.
Other places to consider donating to are Mikinakoos Emergency Fund, Red Cross, True North Aid, Indigenous Climate Action. You can also send donations directly to Whitesand First Nation via e-transfer ([email protected]) and they request that you add your full name in the e-transfer comment section to receive a tax receipt.
*Before sending money, verify that the appeal appears on an official First Nation, Tribal Council or registered charity channel.
If you can't offer financial support, please consider donating items of need. Moontime Connections is currently accepting drop-off donations. If you live in the Thunder Bay area, Namaygoosisagagun Health Office is also taking in donations! They can also bemailed to Superior Inn Hotel & Conference Centre at 555 West Arthur Street, Thunder Bay, ON, P7E 5P8.
items needed are: food, diapers, medical masks, men’s and women’s joggers (all sizes), children’s clothing (newborn to size 14), children’s shoes, summer clothing, men’s clothing, toiletries (lotion, Vaseline, toothpaste, toothbrushes, shampoo, conditioner, soap, deodorant, etc.), strollers, adult depends-all sizes, dog & cat food
