I refuse to reblog callout posts because I'm a prison abolitionist
In all my years in this website, and I've been here a long time, I can't recall a single instance of a callout post leading to actual restitution for the victims of the alleged harm the person was accused of. Even in cases where the accusations were true. Even in cases where there was legitimate harm done to another person.
Remember the sixpencee child slave thing? What happened there, exactly? Was the kid freed? No? They were just run off the website? OK so what good exactly did that do?
Remember the bone stealing witch? What exactly did that witchhunt accomplish? The person got arrested, oh that's great, the american justice system surely rectified the situation
And again, those are instances where the accusations were true and involved real substantive harm to another person. We used to joke on here how callout posts were shit like "receipts below: [several paragraphs of petty fandom drama] [three paragraphs of petty interpersonal drama involving cheating on partners or stealing food out of the fridge or something] [fabricated evidence that the person is responsible for the murder of JonBenét Ramsey]"
And that was back in the 2010s. The meta has changed. Callouts used to be a tool people used to point out actual harm a person had done, rarely, and more commonly were used as a means of bullying somebody over petty drama. Nowadays they're used to manufacture outrage and harassment against marginalized populations. They are a weapon bigots use to turn us against each other. A few manufactured accusations here, some out of context or clipped screenshots there, and people who should be standing in solidarity with each other against white supremacy, patriarchy, cisheteronormativity, are instead devouring each other.
It's sinister as shit, dude, and people will still share these accusations without a second thought. So, why? What is the point? What's the best case scenario here? Raising "awareness?" what the fuck is that supposed to accomplish? Will we get the oh-so-trustworthy authorities involved? Are we hoping for an arrest? A conviction? Throwing a queer or poc person in prison so they can be abused and assaulted and humiliated behind bars? Is that who we are?
Callouts and the like don't serve any real good in the world. At a macro scale they divide us when we should be standing together, and at a micro scale they result in deeply traumatic never-ending harassment and threats and doxxing and worse to a person who almost definitely does not deserve it. And again, for what? A sense of "justice?" this is not justice. This is retribution. It is punishment.
It's fucking cop behavior, and I'm not gonna participate in it.
and what if I told you guys that virtually everyone you ever meet will turn out to be really interesting if you give them a chance
some real miserable fucks in the notes I fear
I'm not even saying you have to talk to every single person you meet. and you're certainly not going to LIKE all of them. but every person does have a rich interior life and complex feelings and unique worldview. sorry.
hey man how's it going
sorry for getting self righteous about uuuuh my belief in the innate wonder of human life and connection I guess
hey man how's it going
wow. made it less than three months in
this is truly one of the most tumblr posts i've ever seen. i know chronically online people exist in all corners of the internet but i feel like this is the only place where someone could say something as uncontroversial as "you will find out that people have personalities when you talk to them" and get responses like "oh so you're making the ABLEIST assertion that i should FORCE MYSELF to push past my SOCIAL ANXIETY to talk to BIGOTS????" amazing work, guys
So you're Simon, right? Simon the Butcher. Simon the Convict. Simon the Stupid Enough to Sign up For a Suicide Mission and Not Realize it Was One.
Well. Not that they told you it was one.
You weren't so clueless that you didn't figure it out before the end, of course. But you aren't sure that really works to your credit either. You did what you could, what seemed like it might help some good come from it all, and then the ocean of blood took you.
Death is not what you expected. You weren't sure what to expect. The angel kind of works, not that you completely believed one would have anything to do with you. The sunlight's nice. Believers used to preach that death lifted a man above suffering, but that doesn't seem to be the case for you. You aren't free from pain, and your body hasn't been made whole again.
There's no fighting the profound swell of anxiety that it brings up in you, to be like this. You think it'd be normal for most people who've lost both their legs and an arm and half their face, even without the ever-pressing awareness that he's fucked. A convict with no limbs? A man who can't even do manual labor now? They'd kill you outright, call it mercy and justice in equal measure, and no one would disagree.
It's probably a good thing that you're already dead.
How do you think it would feel to Ryland that everyone is just an accessory to his story.
Every crossover, every au, others are simplified to fit and revolve around his life. Changed so that they fit neatly together. Some people completely stripped of their own identity and uniqueness for the sake of offering them to him. Offerings to a savior from a different world.
How you think that would feel to a man that doesn’t even know himself. He had to be stripped of everything to find himself, and now his legacy, his story, is being used to strip others.
Doesn’t matter cause he’s not real, but something I think about often with all these crossovers.
Sometimes I think about the fact that almost every single person who found out about Shane and Ilya felt the need to ask Shane "him? really? he's the one you want to be with?"
I think about how Ilya has had to make his way through life mostly on his own since he was twelve years old, about how he moved to a new country as a teenager and was immediately thrust in front of a camera without knowing the language or how to cope with his newfound fame. I think about the preconceived notions of Russians and how, in the absence of being able to accurately communicate (both because of the language barrier and his repressive upbringing), Ilya decided to or was forced to lean into that stereotype. I think about how soft Ilya allows himself to be with Shane, about how he takes care of him, about how silly and goofy he can be, how he's sometimes just a grown kid, how other times he's the only person who can shut Shane's brain off. I think about how kind he is, how caring, how deeply he feels, how incredibly empathetic he is. I think about how wildly Shane loves him. How there literally never could have been anyone else. I think about how incredibly hurtful it is that no one trusts Shane to make his own decisions about his own fucking life and how much it hurts seeing the coldness the world regards his partner with. I think about Shane getting home and walking straight into Ilya's arms, after having to (once again) justify his love for the best man he's ever known, allowing himself to take comfort in his warm embrace, even when it feels to Shane like he should be the one providing both comfort and shelter.
I think about the surety Shane would feel when thinking to himself, "yes. Him. No one else."
Original post by @morallygrayautisticscientist here, this post was so funny I decided to draw it lol.

unfortunately i dont think its queerbaiting if the creator is just so terminally heterosexual that they never remotely considered the same gender relationship their show is centered around could be read as romantic. it is deeply painful however.
Maybe accidental queer baiting? The way someone may not mean to say something rude, but it may come off rude, so it's rude. Frustrating either way.
Not being a dick, just a friendly clarification.
By definition you can't accidentally queerbait. Queerbaiting is specifically using a same sex pair from the show to market the show to queer audiences with no intention of ever following through on a romantic relationship.
There is officially licensed Destiel merch signed off on by Kripke. Teen Wolf had a commercial with the actors for Derek and Stiles draped over each other talking about being "on a ship." Both shows actively used scenes between them as marketing while actively mocking fans for wanting them together. Sherlock has multiple characters refer to Johnlock as a couple, including characters we're supposed to believe are never wrong about human behavior and pushed those scenes in marketing. Then they acted insulted when fans saw them as a couple.
That's queerbaiting.
Done on accident it would just be queer subtext. Done because they had no other choice due to censorship is queer coding.
The specific meaning of the word is really starting to get lost and it's a pretty important one to keep accurate. It describes a very specific phenomenon that was done repeatedly and maliciously for decades and is meant to examine that specifically.
Doing it on accident sucks, but it isn't a tactic of capitalism intentionally intended to suppress queer representation while making money from queer fans.
More studies of Dr. Ryland Grace from Project Hail Mary, ft Rocky, aka the two bestest of friends ever from the best movie and also book ever oh my god
One of my fave moments is when Grace draws PPE onto Rocky's dome, so he can be included in big science time D:

I feel so many feelings about Rocky during the first contact. He wants to connect SO BADLY. Do Eridians have horror stories about scary aliens? If they do, Rocky doesn't care. He wants this alien to be friendly. He does everything he can to accommodate. Here, a little gift I'm sending your way at the speed you're comfortable with. Please be there. Here, the next gift is going right into your airlock so that it's easier for you to catch. Please don't fly away. You made a strange gesture with your limb, I'll make my robot make that gesture back. Please belive that I'm friendly. Here's a tunnel to connect us, I'll make sure you can breathe in it. Please come meet me. I'll let you choose the material for the wall separating us; I'll rebuild the whole wall if it makes you more comfortable, no trouble, just please let's talk. You're all alone on your ship, I can hear it, please come sleep here where I can watch you, it's unsafe for you to be alone. I'm alone and scared, it's been 46 years since I felt safe while sleeping, please please please watch me sleep too. I'm very vulnerable when I sleep and I trust that you won't use it against me. I want to visit your ship, am allowed, question? I'm moving in with you. Let's save the stars.
One thing I love about FFXIV is dragons are refugees from a robot war in space and we all just accept that.
The way they got to the planet where the game (mostly) takes place is one dragon was mpreg with seven children while looking for a new home and he struck a deal with Crystal Mommy to let him raise them there.
At least one art of vore has been recorded as having been performed by a dragon and his Elezen (imagine an Elf, but French) wife.
This is considered a major historical event.
They also might be practicing a weird form of Lamarkian evolution. If they want something hard enough, and the environmental pressures are there, sometimes when they go through major developmental tiers they spontaneously develop adaptations. Like one grew opposable thumbs because she was fascinated by crafting... while also bulking up from a large housecat sized dragonet into a large horse sized juvenile.
Oh, and if your distant ancestor ate a great wyrm, guess what now you can spontaneously metamorphisize into a dragon if you consume dragon blood. Which is everyone in an entire country, and quite likely much of the continent at this point. This raises some very strange questions about dragon genetics and their ability to assimilate into an environment... and assimilate the environment.
The more you learn about them, yeah, this is a species that's evolved to be the dominant life form in any environment, and does this by eventually becoming most of the environment.
Oh, and the thing with the vore jokes? Yeah, no, there's good odds her soul is still alive inside him. Like when he says he knows Iceheart isn't Shiva's reincarnation it's because, well, she can't be carrying Shiva's soul. Because he knows where it is.
I think it is also important to note that because of the aforementioned seven children thing, all of the dragons on Hydaelyn choosing to fuck for fun and companionship are in fact closely related, including some who were siblings (for example, Bahamut and Tiamat). However, because of the aforementioned asexual reproduction, dragon incest appears not to be taboo or a genetic issue.
in the face of an apocalypse, you do what you have to do.
