Random Recipie/Health Post.

So you guys know turmeric?

This stuff.

You can also get it as power.

So uh, i'm not sure if this is common knowledge or not, but I thought I'd share it anyway. I come from a Pakistani family and so my mom always know a bunch of herbal alternatives(?) to medicine. Halthi (Urdu word for turmeric) is probably my favorite and has been there since I was little. It's a big comfort to me even.

So basically, it's really good for bad throats, colds, and flus, that stuff. I think it'd help with any sickness lol, even just emotionally.

What you do is grab some of it, amount depending on how much you're making, and peel it. You don't have to use a peeler, even a spoon will do. Warning, your hands will stain from this for a while; it leaves yellow on everything. Your hands will have yellow marks on them. But it'll go away after a while.

Then you cut it into a few circular slices like a cucumber.

Once that is done, you dump it into the saucepan or pot of milk and mix it in, and heat it up. The milk will turn yellow. But once it's done (usually it's done when the milk is clearly and fully yellow) it doesn't even taste bad! it's even better if you mix some honey into it.

You can also do this with water, though then it's might be better for your tastebuds to add some other stuff to the tea. My mother personally adds cinnamon and occasionally some ginger as well.

I can back this up. It isn’t only their shelters.

I have a family friend who worked at our local Salvation Army headquarters as a a secretary. This particular office took all the Christmas donations for children in need, put them in a warehouse, and on a designated day the staff and their friends picked through them all, taking whatever they wanted. She saw people hauling away bikes donated for specific families. Some local children had hundreds of dollars of gifts donated in their name, and on Christmas they received three cheap things, items likely not even from the person who sponsored them.

My friend quit, and I’ve not given them a dime of my money since then.

Do not give to the Salvation Army.

I’m a wildfire and disaster logistics specialist.

I deal with a lot of agencies who provide disaster relief.

I used to say the Salvation Army’s disaster services were the one (literally the ONE) good thing they did.

They would come in, set up a canteen trailer, make and pass out hot coffee and donated food in a disaster, usually being one of the first agencies to get there and the last to leave.

Then I found out.

Every time they did this, regardless of if they were actually invited or deployed by the agency in charge (usually FEMA, sometimes others) they would SELF-DEPLOY. Meanjng they would just show up. Ok. That’s not TOO bad, sometimes agencies have to take initiative and get there before the red tape is sorted out. BUT. They, after they left at the end of the incident, they would send FEMA or the host agency a BILL. They used one or two paid employees (usually the driver of the truck and a supervisor); and many VOLUNTEERS, but they would bill for EVERYONE’s Labor at standard federal rates. They would bill for the food they distributed even though it was all donated by another agency or private parties. They would bill for the coffee they made and the supplies. Except they would use electricity from the shelter location, water from donations or from the shelter, and in many cases, they would get the coffee and industrial filters DONATED, but bill for them at retail prices.

Don’t FUCKING give to the Salvation Army.

The Salvation Army is also ass to the workers. A good number of people join it, naively thinking that it’s doing good, and end up leaving cynical and beaten down. The management is hostile, if not outright abusive, and demand some ridiculous hours of it lower to mid-level staff. Don’t support these people.

Salvation Army reached out to Milknmuffins and asked what shelter she’s at with the promise to address the abuse in it. She…ended up saying where she was. She was thrown out onto the street. It’s also all on Twitter.

They invited her to a personal talk so she could explain the situation in person.

Random Lorepost: What the Bats know about the new vigilante, 'Instinct'.

Instinct often attacks the lower real criminals and usually avoids the muggers who only take food or are only trying to get by.

He has these energy powers. People have also seen his eyes glow.

He seems to have crazy senses, based on the fact that he seems to hear, sense, or see a criminal before they even sense him, and some criminals swear they seem him sniff the air sometimes.

He's small in size. The criminals are convinced that Instinct is either a child or a teen.

Has this strange "aaaaoooooooooooo!" battle cry. He's also said to have growled, snarled, clawed, and been generally feral when fighting.

He's scared of adults. The criminals somehow know this.

He knows street slang, terms, and talk. If he's not being a pure feral, he's talking how all street types talk. A true Gothamite.

Once in the middle of a fight, someone tried to grab him around the head and he bit them.

It had taken him a few minutes, nearly spraining an ankle in the process of getting down and out of the window of his room, but he eventually made it to where Swift had said to meet them.

He stood under the tree, hands in his pockets as he then looked up. Upon seeing Swift, he gave a small smile and a wave.

Swift grinned with sharp teeth and sprang down from the branch, a small crow fledgling on his shoulder.

"Hey, Crow! Hope you mind if Night-" He jerked a thumb at the little crow, "- joins us. Silver the fox might too, but yeah."

Crow took a step back as Swift came down from the tree, his smile widening slightly as he looked at the other. He tilted his head as he looked at the crow, but nodded

'I don't mind-- don't mind at all. I like crows.. if that's not. Blatantly obvious by my name-'

He signed with a small, wheeze of a laugh. He then paused, his head shifting back upright

'So.. how far away is the guy you're taking me to meet?'

He then asked.

He signed, glancing at his window, the one he had climbed out through, before looking back at Swift,

'Lead the way. I'll follow,'

"I thought we'd revisit our 'roots," Swift grinned as they climbed over the fence and started north. "I didn't exactly have many friends on the streets besides the animals, but I did sort of make friends with some.

"Dingo's one of them. He's like an Australian -which is part of the reason we call him Dingo, I don't know his real name- and the leader of this gang that only steals food, cars, and breaks kids out of bad homes- probably why Red Hood leaves him alone. He lets a lot of street kids use his hideouts and bases all the time.

"I met him because once a gang beat me up and he and his gang found me and patched me up. They're cool, and everyone calls their gang the Canids. You evermet any of them?

thinking again about that time tim broke into dick’s apartment in bludhaven and immediately started making fun of his home security the moment dick walked in the door

and then the next time we see someone break into dick’s apartment (this time it’s a stranger trying to rob him) we find out that he has installed a human-sized glue trap in front of his home entertainment system (and coincidentally, right next to the window)

this is a cartoonishly deranged thing for dick to put in his apartment as actual security but also i believe with my whole heart that this was meant for tim. this is cruel and unusual punishment for some random home invader but completely justified if it was actually meant to clown on one’s annoying younger brother all along

I love this post so I hope you don’t mind I expand because it’s really funny how this progresses. First I have to point out that before Tim became Robin, Dick tried really hard to keep where he was living a secret. He lived with Starfire for a while (this is before Blüdhaven, living in New York) and Dick wore disguises on his way in and out of her apartment to make sure no one connected the dots between Dick Grayson and Starfire. This is shortly before Tim’s introduction story, Dick in one of his disguises to go on a date:

But when Tim goes to find Dick after Jason’s death, he just casually knows not only that Dick lives with Kory (RIP all of Dick’s efforts to hide it) but also he knows about Dick’s private New York apartment he hadn’t lived in since before moving in with Kory. And Tim just shows up, and…walks into Dick’s apartment while Dick already left. Even pre Robin Tim is not afraid of breaking and entering Nightwing’s home.

And once Tim officially starts training as Robin and everything, he just. randomly shows up at Dick’s apartment to ask for special training on how to be part of the dynamic duo. He did not call ahead or anything he just took a bus to New York and knocked on Dick’s door (no breaking in this time! wow!). This is basically the beginning of them starting to form a brotherly relationship (they don’t go full brotherly until after Dick leaves New York).

And Tim goes “oh so your apartment is just this messy all the time not just that first time I went here huh” lol

It’s all of this that leads up to Tim eventually sneaking into Dick’s new Blüdhaven apartment and making fun of the lax security.

What I’m saying, basically, is that Dick Grayson is very justified in his apartment protections against Tim Drake shenanigans. And also that it may not have even been necessary for Dick to tell Tim where his Blüdhaven apartment was because if Tim wants to hang out with his brother he will probably just snoop and figure out where Dick lives without being told anyway. Which is where glue traps for little brothers can come in handy :)
