ty @vvawlpe for da tag !! <3 basically my first deviantart and then tumblr username was ireversx (something like irreversible +x) because i tried very hard to have an "aesthetic" artsy username the likes of which were popular on tumblr at that time like "irreversible" or "schadenfreude" or whatever haha but then i wanted to shorten it more and i remember when I was a kid I used to go to this rich girl's house whose name was Iris, she seemed to me to have the perfect life ever, she even had an attic full of toys and dolls, she was so rich and very beautiful as a kid. so I mish-mashed iris+irex (shortened for ireversx) then I changed it some more so that my instagram moots wouldn't find me here, this is a very personal space for me :P afterward I read Homer's Illiad and found out about the mythology of Iris, the messenger goddess, and I kinned a lot with her. there's also this song from broadcast which has the lyrics "I am iris and the lens" and the lyrics were very relatable to me. it's also funny because people who don't know me that well and only know of me from ig call me by my instagram handle at parties ! funny :P I don't have that many mutuals but I tag @enyaah and @adrnst

For those who don't know, this piece is titled 'Unfinished Painting', by Keith Haring. He painted it about a year before his death of AIDs. I believe he actually finished other pieces between this one and his death. He left the majority of the canvas blank to represent his life and art career cut short due to HIV/AIDs. This was a deliberate choice and commentary about all that we lose (both personally and culturally) by ignoring the AIDs crisis at the time (1989). He was devastated he didn't have time to make more art. 'Finishing' Unfinished Painting is straight up spitting on Haring's grave and shows no understanding to the meaning behind the art. The AI interpretation doesn't even follow his extremely recognizable shape language and symbols. This is why people are angry about AI art. All commerce images and no meaning or humanity
