sometimes i remember that hawkeye is canonically deaf in the comics and the mcu erased his disability. that they ignored his abusive childhood and gave him a family - erasing his attachment issues. in the comics hes this self-destructive goofy disabled depressed guy who drinks coffee by the pot just to stay awake and is always covered head to toe in band-aids. sometimes i remember that the mcu erased everything about clint barton but the bow and arrow. and it ruins my whole day.

In fact, Matt Fraction got the idea FOR doing a Hawkeye comic focusing on his non-Avengers life AFTER seeing The Avengers film.

MCU HAWKEYE IS BASED ON ULTIMATES HAWKEYE - former Olympics archer, not deaf, has a wife and three kids, highly competent, life not a dumpster fire, bffs with Nat and Fury (any of this sounding familiar?)

I am all for calling out the MCU on shit they get wrong or shit they erase, but calling them out for not including something that hadn’t even been WRITTEN yet is fucking ridiculous and just speaks to the whole Callout Culture - not based at all in fact.

I wholeheartedly agree.

BUT.

Hawkeye was deaf long before Fraction/Aja AND long before Ultimates. So i do understand the frustration and disappointment at not including Clint’s age old disability, or even hinting at it just a little bit.

But i definitely agree that Callout Culture is bullshit and should be launched into the sun.
