Only because I couldn’t resist...
The vampire, I mean the very stereotypical vampire with pale skin and fangs, that appeared on my doorsteps at sundown, about bites my neck and I push him away. It is the same move I use to push away boys when I don’t want to kiss them.
“Wait...If I do this, it the garlic thing legit?” I ask deciding to tease him a bit. I really don’t want to know what will happen if he bites me. My blood may boil or something. My mother wasn’t clear when she died and told me that the supernatural would come.
“What?” He asks bewildered. When he first knocked on my door, he sounded Romanian but now, I think that was all a lie, he sounds like he’s from Manhattan.
“Garlic. When I become a vampire, can I eat garlic?”
“What about black garlic?” I ask.
“It’s still garlic, so no. No garlic. That’s apart of the deal.” He says annoyed. His name is Nathaniel and told me he was turned in 1893.
“What about garlic salt?”
“No, garlic! Garlic and vampires do not mix, got it?”
“All right. Fine. What about mirrors?” I ask sitting down at my dining room table. My older sister isn’t going to be happy when she comes home and finds me along with a boy, even if he came to turn me into a vampire. “Because I’m quite sure the reason why you’re here is because I’m rather vain and love mirrors.”
“Only if there is a silver backing to the mirror.”
“Oh, good, because if not this was going to be a long second life.” I say as I hear the cat outside meow loudly and a dog’s bark.
Nathaniel swears and hisses as the sliding door opens. A young man no older than Nathaniel and I comes walking into my house. His hair is dirty blonde and long and he’s tan.
“This is my territory, Rufus.”
“You are in violation of the treaty. She has to hear the other side.”
“What?” I ask looking between the two boys. They are complete opposites. One seems to worship the devil and the other is a golden ray of sunshine with a laid back smile.
“Perfect name for a dog.” Nathaniel mutters.
“I’m the Werewolf liaison.”
“Is this some sort of joke? What does the supernatural want with me?” I ask actually concerned. She told me that we were safe but to tell them the truth when they did come. I am just supposed to see how much they know first.
“Ah, you can see us.” Nathaniel answers glaring at Rufus.
“Give me your sales pitch, werewolf, he told me I can’t eat garlic and I’m half Italian.”
The werewolf smiles and launches into his sales pitch, telling me about being a werewolf. I can eat people food, I go to the beach and get tan, not forgo this life.
“But once a month you turn into a monster.” Nathaniel says.
“But you look like a monster all day.” Rufus adds.
“But I can control myself. You are out of your mind during the full moon.”
“Yeah, yeah, only the pups are and that’s if they don’t have proper training. So, Ella, what do you want? To become a vampire and drink blood and sleep in coffins or to join the pack?”
“And get fleas and maybe a stay in the pound.” Nathaniel adds.
I look between the two boys. “You two really didn’t do your research.” I say.
“What do you mean?” Rufus asks.
“About why I could see you.”
“Ah, we were just told you could see the supernatural.”
I smile and snap my fingers dropping my disguise. “Yeah, and does the world Fae ring a bell?”
They both stare at me. “Ah, what?” Nathaniel asks stepping back.
“My mother is Jessamine, Princess of the Fae, she’s just been living a mortal life without your knowledge. She told me to do this if you showed up.”
“I thought the Fae were gone.” Rufus mutters under his breath. And that statement is true. The rest of the supernatural world thought the Fae were gone. They just didn’t realized that my mother left before the court fell.
“So, what happens when you mix a Fae and a vampire?” I ask.
“Ah, we’re not finding out.” Nathaniel answers and Rufus nods and looks at his archenemy.
“I don’t know! I thought the Fae went extinct twenty years ago!” Rufus exclaims.
“We are not going to tell anyone, got it dog?”
“Because they just didn’t die out.” Nathaniel answers. “They killed them.”
“Who?” I ask never hearing this side of the story.
“That much remains unknown to me.” He answers softly.
There you go, a short story. Maybe I’ll continue it.
P.S. Loved the writing prompt!
