I think part of the reason I’m so obsessed with MXTX’s works is the way that each story seems to hold you gently as say “Your kindness mattered. It didn’t alleviate the suffering, it did not undo the pain. But your kindness mattered.”

Kindness could not erase Luo Binghe’s abuse, but it changed the story into a kinder one.

Kindness did not stop Wei Wuxian’s death, but it did save a-Yuan.

Kindness did not undo Xie Lian’s suffering, but it renewed his sincerity to help others.

Kindness did not change the entire world, but it helped create a softer future.

Its such a nice message, that maybe kindness will not protect you, maybe you don’t see the outcome of it, but you should still try to be kind, and I love that honestly.

Wei Ying cocked his head. “Research?” he said.

“Mm. I’m a cultivation researcher, not a department employee. I’m reconstructing the ancient musical cultivation techniques of the Lan clan.”

Lan Zhan’s new liaison at the Caiyi Municipal Cultivation Department is an enigma – ridiculously talented, yet somehow content with mopping up spiritual pests for barely above minimum wage. Wei Ying is slapdash and irresponsible, and Lan Zhan doesn’t like him at all… but then he meets A-Yuan, who loves music and longs for a piano his father can’t afford.

A question I get asked a lot while working at a public library is "how do you deal with homeless people?"

And the answer is, we don't.

The unhoused people who come here seeking refuge 99% of the time understand that they will be kicked out if they misbehave.

The people you have to watch out for are Jessica, who only came because the kid she didn't want had to visit for a homework assignment and she just *needs* to yell at her child for asking to borrow two books or stay an extra five minutes, or Michael, who came in to look at porn on our computers for whatever fucking reason, or Karen who just wanted to come by to throw a fit that the particular book she wanted was checked out and harrass our staff about our collection being too limited.

99% of the time, the people we need to ban are middle to upper-middle class white people while the homeless and mentally ill/disabled people mind their own damn business and are honestly some of the best patrons we have.

I bring this up because today we had a man come in. He stopped at the desk, pulled up a chair and said "I'm newly homeless and was living in my car. I'm disabled. It was impounded. It's raining. I don't have a phone and I don't know where to go tonight."

And we did what we could to help. He was incredibly kind and patient despite his obvious anxiety and stress, more than most able bodied, housed patrons are to us under much less dire conditions. I liked knowing that we were the first place he came.

We have so many people like this who come in everyday. Many are quiet and keep to themselves, but sometimes they talk to us.

They tell us about how they're taking a few courses on a scholarship they applied for from our library's computer at the local community college to get their diploma. Or ask about a manga or dvd or book we might have to help them pass the time.

One woman, who comes in daily with her tattered walker always says hello to me and likes to work on the new jigsaw puzzle with me when we set one out.

So like, treat unhoused people like people. Treat disabled people like people. I don't want my library to feel like the only safe space in the world, but I'm glad it can be one of them.

I'm so sick of hearing about how "the homeless are ruining everything" when they are some of the kindest, most respectful people here. Sometimes they mutter, might not have had a place to shower, and might need a little extra space for their backpacks but that's FINE. It Doesn't Matter Actually. None of that is a problem or any of my business to care about (unless they request help/services), and I also don't think it's any of yours.

It's so funny to me that some people say Wei Wuxian began to have feelings for Lan Zhan AFTER his resurrection (possibly influenced by Mo Xuanyo's preferences).

Guys.

He was completely and utterly gone for Lan Zhan since DAY FUCKING 1. There was ZERO hesitation from our favourite dumbass when it comes to pig tail pulling strategy. He was craving his crush's attention. The endless teasing, legit throwing flowers at him when he walked by, defeating a giant monster with him, the absolute grade A pining under all that teasing. My baby girl wanted Lan Zhan to be his husband and saying otherwise is just slander.

You know the major issue tho? In Wei Wuxian's first life, he was ABUSED. There was a war going on. Lan Zhan's communication skills were arguably hella worse and Wei Wuxian's life was getting torn apart every time they met eachother. He had no TIME for processing his feelings, let alone actually act on them. He didn't have a second to sit and focus on Lan Zhan the way he wanted to because of his miniscule self esteem. His life went to shit after they emerged out of the cave. He HAD NO GOLDEN CORE.

But coming back? Lan Zhan's right there. He's still the same, albeit less angry and more resistant to teasing (my man doesn't know that Lan Zhan had his widow single parent phase and now all he wants to do his fuck his spouse into the stratosphere but our baby girl hasn't reached that stage yet).

It was never about Mo Xuanyo's preferences affecting his own. If that's the case, Wei Wuxian should've had feelings of hatred towards the Mo clan from the get go instead of just a semi-detached sense of obligation to kill them.

Wei Ying has loved Lan Zhan his entire life since they met. He just got to act on it after he died and came back and wasn't hunted down like an animal and fighting against the entire world to correct all the wrong in the cultivation world. He had the time to tease the love of his life. A fresh start for an old, ever lasting love.

And that's the most beautiful part of their relationship.

the wildest thing about lan wangji is the way he’s immediately enraged at his own feelings for wei wuxian. because we’ve seen wei wuxian fall in love slowly and surely, right? he goes from a quick interest to an oblivious attraction to liking lan wangji then being infatuated after his return to life, then to straight-up loving the guy intensely. we watch him develop his sexual and romantic attraction equally.

but lan wangji’s different. from the very first second he’s desperately smitten — all it took was one sly smile and he was going through the four stages of love: the desire to marry, kiss, bed and die with him. and he’s so goddamn outraged, because how dare this troublemaker trespass into his house and steal his heart so easily??

he was so conflicted that he didn’t see any other alternative if not to unsheathe his sword and fight the hell out of that idiot. feelings?? for a rebellious teenager?? right in front of my clan’s three thousand rules??? not today, devil.
