Hi! This blog is part of an independent study I'm doing for my major at [REDACTED] in which I'm documenting my semester-long rewatch of every StarKid full-length musical production. Neat, right? 1. What is this blog?

Great question! This blog is dedicated to an independent study I’m doing about StarKid that focuses on analyzing its productions for their theatrical content, interacting with the often neglected StarKid/musical theatre fandom, and basically using StarKid Productions as the ultimate proof that musical theatre can a) be accessible to a large audience b) encourage people to attend live theatre even with the presence of such accessibility and c) be worthy of artistic criticism. Essentially, I’m using my love of StarKid to stick it to the proverbial, commercial-oriented, profit-hungry, stuck-up man.

2. What is StarKid/Starkid/Team Starkid/StarKidPotter/StarKid Productions?

Another great question! It’s a theatre company that started when a bunch of theatre kids from the University of Michigan (Go Blue!) became friends and started writing musicals together.

3. Are you a part of StarKid?

As much as I would love to be, I’m not professionally involved with StarKid (at the moment. I’m still waiting for my callback). I’m only a dedicated fan who loves StarKid very much. 

4. Why are you making this blog if no one is going to read it and it won’t get popular?

Because I want to get an A for my independent study class, and I care about StarKid, theatre accessibility, and fandom culture.

Not to be so real at 2 am, but I think the biggest reason I like Starkid is cause they actually know how to say sorry

There's many moments from (mostly) older shows that haven't aged well, and instead of trying to bury all that and letting it blow over, Starkid has acknowledged them multiple times, apologised, and not mentioned them in the future (characters or parts from songs in future concerts and all that)

I also think this is why people still watch AVPM and pretend the source material doesn't exist. The musicals have aged moments, but Starkid has shown growth, so we like consuming it

dude. dude listen to me. Nerdy Prudes Must Die had no godly involvement. no no I know that sounds whack but hear me out — the igniting incident isn’t Steph cheating on a test, or Peter accepting it, it’s Grace. Grace had one (1) sexual fantasy and decided to do a “prank em john” at the Waylon place. The only place that is related to the lords in black in the entire musical. Then Max dies by accident and Grace is totally chill with hiding the body. Then the other shit happens and at the end she has the Black Book, and THAT’S when the supernatural stuff comes into play for obvious reasons. But Grace is such a prude, and we already know she’s a freak from Abstinence Camp with a murder-y side to her. She WOULD kill a guy if he made her horny. Sad with inklings of future religious trauma but true. Blinky also says that they have been “watching her” and nothing else. This is the only musical whose triggering incident isn’t weird or godly in any way, minus the Waylon place but that was from the 1930s so it doesn’t count. Also it would be admittedly really funny if all that happened because Grace was just Like That.

Starkid and Puppets: A Legacy

Now if you're like me, you're probably obsessed with starkids penchant for puppetry

And in light of recent news...

It's safe to say I've been screaming, crying, throwing up thinking about it alot

So lets take a journey through all their Puppets shall we!

We start where all good stories start AVPM. Who have the Dragon puppet

Next, MAMD has no puppet's

And AVPS has sorty and scarfy! (<3)

Now obviously... Starship, with an incredible amount of puppetry

Bug and buggette

Roach and some other backround Puppets (including mosquito's)

And (in my opinion) starkids most incredible puppet to date, Pincer!

Holy Musical B@tman has none

AVPSY does have a puppet! They have the basilisk puppet (technically scarfy and sorty again)

Twisted has two Puppets! The monkey

And the parrot

Neither Trail to Oregon or ANI have any Puppets unless you count Cornwallis

Firebringer has both trunkell

And snarl (with a size to rival pincer)
