Ok Folks, listen up. The electoral college doesn’t vote officially until December 19th. It is extremely rare and almost unheard of for them to vote against the majority of their district BUT IT CAN HAPPEN. The Electoral College was made for exactly this purpose!  Remember, prior to December 19th, we have:

We will have to be unyielding. We will have to write, call, and march on every swing state that can have their electoral vote differently. We have to make our voices heard. Hillary WON the popular vote which means more of America wants her to be President than Trump. There is precedence for this to happen. There is cause. There is hope. With no state law against Pennsylvania voting against their popular vote, that’s 20 to go to Hillary. If Florida or any three other states swing, SHE WINS.

If we get them to vote different, we don’t have to worry about Trump or Pence because Hillary will have won. Until she hands over the nomination, she is still saying she is waiting for the official electoral votes to be made.

Find out the swing vote state’s Electoral College Representatives and phone, mail, email, share, and march on their offices. We have just over a month to get this together. If the Electoral College decides to change their votes for Hillary on December 19th, we will have Hillary as our President. The reason why so many people aren’t talking about this is because it’s very rare for the Electoral College to vote differently than the districts. Some states even have laws preventing that, such as Ohio and North Carolina. But, Pennsylvania does NOT have that law. Florida is tricky, but it can be done. NH is also another one that can swing it as well. If we get just a few of them to switch, we will have won.

No, it’s not.

This isn’t even close to how tumblr reacts in an election.

How do I know?

Because I was here. I was right on this website in 2012, when we didn’t have messaging or replies, when the ‘t’ was different and the tea was different and we said “what is air” way too much.

I was eighteen, in my first semester of college, unable to vote because nobody told me how to register until it was too late.

And I saw the occasional posts. Tumblr is a pretty liberal website so you mostly had videos and photos of Obama doing adorable/cool things. A few of us laughed at Mitt Romney’s attempt to say that he was diverse because he picked a lot of women to be on his cabinet. There was some panic. There always is. 

But it was nowhere near this bad.

Now I’m 22, in my fifth year of college, and you have bloggers pleading to vote for a specific candidate because they don’t want to be deported. You have posts upon posts upon posts where people are freaking out because they won’t survive going to conversion therapy. You have posts from people wondering if they’re still going to be allowed to called their partner their husband/wife. You have post after post after post talking about the latest black/Muslim/Latinix/etc. person to be harassed or attacked by a Trump supporter. You have posts about people already committing voter fraud and people threatening to show up to the polls holding guns. What we went through in 2012 is nothing compared to what we’re going through now. Both on tumblr and in the nation.

The fact that tumblr is reacting this strongly to this election is terrifying in and of itself. Because I can tell you that this is not how tumblr has reacted to elections before. Not even close. Because we knew that Mitt Romney would have been a bad president but at least millions of lives weren’t going to be in danger, at least millions of families and homes weren’t going to be broken up, at least there would still be some positive aspects, at least we could make the best out of a bad situation. 

Tumblr’s posts are ugly right now because this election is ugly, one of the ugliest in history.

The electoral college does not vote until December 19th. We have 40 days.

What does this mean?

Right now, the presidential election results are only a PROJECTION of the election outcome. They are PRELIMINARY RESULTS. A candidate still needs to earn 270 electoral votes to win. Hillary Clinton won the popular vote, which means that more than 50% of the voters wanted her for president. The electoral college shouldn’t guarantee an override of the public’s opinion– and it doesn’t have to.

There are 21 states that do NOT restrict which candidate the electors vote for. Out of these 21, Hillary lost the following:

As you can see, these states are worth 166 electoral votes. As it currently stands, Hillary Clinton is projected to receive 232 votes. Trump is projected to win 306. This means that 37 votes need to be taken away from Trump to bring him down to 269. Hillary Clinton needs 38 votes ADDED to win 270. These electoral voters can also abstain, which means that they can refuse to vote for either candidate. If 37 of the voters within these states abstain then no candidate will have reached the required 270. In this case, the vote would be taken to the House.

Trump won Pennsylvania, a state that typically votes blue, by less than 100,000 votes. While it is highly unlikely to get all 20 electoral voters to cross party lines and vote democrat, it also isn’t impossible to convince a few of them to be “faithless electors.” We only need to convince 38 out of the 166. That is 23%. There are SIXTEEN states we need to focus our attention on.

A move like this would be unprecedented. However, as we all saw on November 8th, odds don’t guarantee reality. Trump had a less than 20% winning, yet given the circumstances, enough people came together and made it happen. We can make this happen. 

Ask yourself this: What do we have left to lose? We can stay complacent and accept that this country will be run by a racist, sexist, islamophobic, homophobic, ablest bigot, or we can at least try. 

How?

SPREAD THE WORD. Trend #NotMyPresident to let people know that we do not accept being led by a man who does not care about our wellbeing. Email your professors, email the dean of your colleges. The last thing a university wants is negative press. Millenials can take a stand, but that doesn’t mean we have to be the only ones. Church-led events helped bring a lot of disillusioned voters to the polls. Spread the word in any way possible, whether it be on Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr, or even in person. Stage a peaceful protest. Hand out flyers. Let the people around you know that you don’t accept this man as your leader when he won’t even accept you as a citizen with your designated rights.

These 166 people need to face the consequences of electing this man. 

Do this for the people who couldn’t vote. Do this for the people who live in the very real fear of being deported. Do this for the people who will have to face the rise in hate crimes. Do this for the people who have a very real possibility of losing their rights. Do this for the people who will no longer afford necessities.

It’s November 8 2016. Election Day. And you didn’t vote. You knew that trump is evil “but Hillary is just as bad”, you said. You hate both of them, so you refused to vote. “Neither deserves to win”, you said and by the way, it’s rigged anyway, right? You refuse to play that game and you feel quite good about it. You’re a rebel. It’s your kind of protest against the corrupt system!  

You come home from work, with a smile on your face. It looks like your protest works: Some of your friends also didn’t vote or wrote in the name of a third candidate. You feel really good. Maybe you and your friends are enough to change the system! And if not, well, you’ve seen presidents change before and it never had too many consequences in your life. 

You sit down in front of your tv, reach for the remote and your phone buzzes. It’s a text from one of your friends, the weird one who begged you to vote for Hillary - and your smile falls off your face “It looks like Trump will probably win. I’m so scared. My sister is crying.” 

You suddenly remember that your friend’s sister is trans. 

You turn on the tv and you can’t believe your eyes. The third candidate one of your other friends voted for is at 4%! That’s great, isn’t it? But wait.. Hillary is currently behind Trump? By 6%? Oh. You didn’t expect that. 

 Another text. A co-worker. “Two people called in sick. I think it’s because they’re scared to go outside in case Trump wins..” 

One of your co-workers is black, one is Muslim. 

You stare at the tv and you can’t believe what you hear. “Trump won.” It was a head-at-head race and Hillary almost won - but only almost. You can’t believe it. None of your friends were going to vote for him! 

You want to go outside to think about something else - but you stop as you hear your neighbor crying on the phone. “I’m so scared i’ll lose the custody right when our marriage gets annulled”. 

You suddenly remember that your neighbors are a gay couple with a cute little daughter. 

But Hillary would’ve been just as bad, right?

in short, vote Hillary if you care about keeping this country in one piece.  otherwise, you better go apologize to every single minority and woman that you know on November 9th because your protest vote has put them in danger.

They don’t want you to vote. That’s literally what they play on. “Not voting” isn’t going against the system, you’re playing the conservative’s game just how they want it.

Do you ever think about how when Ron’s wand broke 2nd year, just using spell-o-tape wasn’t enough to fix it. It kept backfiring in ways that were really bad, like making himself eat slugs, or kinda just. being defective in general.

Hagrid’s wand was snapped his 3rd year. But he still uses it, disguised as an umbrella. And it works.

Like we know Ollivander didn’t fix it, since he was surprised to hear Hagrid had the pieces. Not to mention since Hagrid was expelled, it would be extremely illegal to fix it. Hogwarts works as a groundskeeper, and lives in a one room wooden hut that he made himself. He’s not going to have the money to ribe someone to fix it, and then there’s also the fact that because of his heritage, even if he could bribe someone to fix it, they probably wouldn’t. And sure, Dumbledore probably knows that Hagrid fixed his wand, there’s a certain level of deniability there. He wouldn’t have actually gotten involved with the wand mending process. Especially when Hagrid was just accused of killing a student.

So that means Hagrid would have put his wand back together himself.

The 3rd year transfiguration examination was to turn a teapot into a tortoise. Only inanimate objects into animals. Part of the reason animagi are so rare is because they’re human to animal transformations. The first time we meet Hagrid, he gives Dudley a tail, and correctly animates the boat he and Harry are on. Silently.

Harry and co. didn’t even attempt to learn silent casting until 6th year. Anything Hagrid learned after 3rd year would have been self taught.

Hagrid is one powerful wizard and holy shit combined with his resistance to magic with his giant heritage forget McGonagall holy shit Hagrid is terrifying

I feel like this is like the sneakiest of comparisons on Rowling’s part because we are shown several powerful wizards but the one of greatest distinction is Tom Riddle. Riddle’s path is dark, though. So when people look for his equivalent they always see Dumbledore. But honestly, especially with this revelation, Tom Riddle’s match is Hagrid.

Stated above are Hagrid’s accomplishments and they are many. He was in school with Riddle when Riddle framed him for that murder. They met on that battlefield and Riddle won that battle but not the war. Hagrid went down without much of a fight. What he did in that moment was take the fall and then stay loyal to Dumbledore and remain on the grounds. In this respect I think one of Voldemort’s greatest mistakes was overlooking Hagrid.

Because Hagrid is a great wizard and possesses a lot of skill and has an affinity for magical beasts. He looks after animals that guard parts of Hogwarts. He knew he had a Dragon’s egg and was confident in his ability to raise it with love. 

And then these three small children come along and one of them - the baby that Dumbledore trusted Hagrid in delivering - is the Great Harry Potter. The Boy Who lived was trusted to Hagrid on a flying motorcycle with nothing more than a repaired wand that doubles as a umbrella. Dumbledore, the strategist, has faith in this man to be able to protect this boy not only here but in rescuing him on his birthday years later to be taken to shop for school supplies.

And no one bats an eye because Hagrid, even though he’s so large and burly, is easily dismissed.

Then, for the next several years he is one of the most consistent familial relationships Harry has. Hagrid becomes the go-to for the trio. His hut is one of solace. Even with his lack of formal training he is still wise and his advice is taken to heart by every one of them. Hagrid becomes their guardian and does his best to protect them at every turn. He’s a little scatterbrained, sure, but a part of me wonders if he pretends to let things slip. 

He uplifts the whole team. He cheers Hermione up after she’s called a mudblood. He’s always on the sidelines at Quiddich. He becomes a constant in their lives.

As far as taking out important people that are close to Harry goes, Voldemort made a huge mistake overlooking Hagrid. And I think Dumbledore knew that, too.
