Numbers and how to tell time will always be my least favourite things to learn when learning a new language
Update language Version 1021.05 / Reg Version 1010.08 - Friday, June 10th
Imported new Spanish prefixes (warning: will glitch with German base words)
French vowels will now be pronounced in the Celtic style
More irregular verbs!
16 brand new homonyms
You can no longer end a sentence with a preposition haha good luck
Change note:
hey i’m still here! i haven’t had anything pretty tp post but I’m working towards my n4 in japanese and learning basic korean. what are you guys all up to?
as someone whose entire self-worth was built up by academia and destroyed by not living up to expectations at a world top university, please believe me when I say academia is NOT everything. It’s not.
are you as tired of all of the "german is an angry language" comments/jokes as i am? bc i'm tired of it
dude, my friend, my pal, i am SO fucking tired of it.
other things that i wish would just die out:
giving villains in movies, comics, ect german names to express that they are evil
portraying every german in media as either a stoic business person, a bavarian in lederhosn or a nazi.
american media just making up german words and pretending it is standard vocabulary for us. one of the worst offences: “Lebenslangerschicksalsschatz”
american media hiring people who don’t actually speak any german to play germans and then have them speak horrible german (also see above video)
americans producing media which misinterprets literally every country that isn’t their own, overgeneralizing and stereotyping cultures and then exporting that media into said countries.
My newest set of handwritten astrophysics notes ✨💕 It’s only been 2 months but thank you to all 5k of you who have followed me & supported me ✨☄😭
So….I totally never thought about this. I’m sure very few of you have. I don’t know about you, but I’m a bit disturbed…
Wow. Food for thought. I’m sure there’s an answer though.
Their names were translated/Anglicized after going from Greek to English.
The names of the Apostles are of Greek, Aramaic and Hebrew origins. The Hebrew, Aramaic and “Greek” named Apostles were: Shim’on = Simon (Hebrew origin). Y’hochanan = John (Hebrew origin). Mattithyahu = Matthew (Hebrew origin). Ya’aqov = James (Hebrew origin meaning Jacob). Bar-Tôlmay = Bartholomew (Aramaic, which is related to Hebrew). Judah = Jude / Saint Jude (not to be confused with Judas Iscariot, Hebrew origin). Yehuda = Judas Iscariot (Hebrew origin, Betrayed Yeshua/Yehosua the Messiah). Cephas / Kephas = Peter (Hebrew / Aramaic origin meaning “Rock”). Tau’ma = Thomas (Aramaic origin). Andrew = Andrew (Greek origin. Is the brother of Cephas / Kephas). Phillip = Phillip (Greek origin). You will note that there are only 11 names, that is because there were 2 Apostles named Ya’aqov (James), which brings the total to 12 apostles.

To expand on this, Jesus’s name is Anglicized in this way as well. We get Jesus from the Latin form of the Greek “Ἰησοῦς”(Iēsous), which is derived from the Herbrew “ישוע”(Yeshu’a, which meant “YHWH is Salvaion”, YHWH, or Yahweh being the name of God). When another form of that name, ” יְהוֹשֻׁעַ”(Yeoshu’a) was allowed to Anglicize through a different set of corruptions, it entered the English Language through Reformist Protestants as the name “Joshua”. Yes. Jesus’s actual name is Joshua.
joshua christ this is fascinating

I don’t really understand getting mad at people for mixing up korean, chinese, and japanese
Like, look at them together
見る한국어中国死ね我要吃你マンコ형사我有大鸡巴
and tell me they don’t look similar lol
they don’t look similar
This post’s notes are made of:
• Tumblr People™ trying to prove they’re not racists by explaining why and how these alphabets don’t look similar at all even if they don’t understand shit of it; • People with historical and linguistic knowledge arguing that while korean is indeed a different looking alphabet, China and Japan have a history of borrowed symbols and trade enough that some of it’s alphabets are indeed similar to an untrained eye - after all, not everyone has the same education and access to information to know how to differentiate it, aaaannd, best of all:
• Actual chinese, korean and japanese speakers pointing out that OP just wrote “i have a big dick” and variations.
this is your reminder that it’s never too late to learn something new. just because you’re thirty does not mean you’re no longer allowed to learn a new language or learn how to paint. nobody’s ever too old to study history, get a degree, or crochet. learning knows no barriers, no time, it is for everyone and there’s always a huge space for improvement.
i really love our generation’s joke trend of like, very calm but incredibly inflated hyperbole. like nobody says “oh she’s pretty” anymore we say “i would willingly let her murder me” and everyone is just like “lol same”
i think “same” is also great and “me,” i love when somebody reblogs a picture of like, a lizard, and just says “me” and we all know exactly what they mean. the current online Humor Discourse is remarkable because we trade exclusively in metaphors and implications and nobody ever, ever says anything outright and yet EVERYBODY understands each other perfectly
#ppl are gonna write their dissertations on this shit (x)
// @antlered-kitten
This reminds me of the time when I was on vacation with my family and we were hiking, and after using a rest stop, the conversation turned to the grossness of outhouses and port-a-potties, and I said that if I ever got splashback from a port-a-potty, “my soul would depart my body.” My parents found that hilarious, and my dad commented that my generation can be so clever with words bc he would only think to say something like “It would be disgusting” which doesn’t convey the sentiment nearly as well as “my soul would depart my body.”
Adjacent but relevant is Tia Baheri’s “Your Ability to Can Even: A Defense of Internet Linguistics”
I find this so intriguing because it opens up so many possibilities for future writers to connect with their readers.

u know how the tail of a really little brand new kitten sticks right up in the air and how their bodies are kinda chubby
thats good
FORGOT to provide Evidence
In Austria, we call kittens at that age “Autodromkatzerl”, which translates to “bumper car kittens”, because of the way their tail sticks up. It’s not a really common word, but a very cute one, I think
this is a genuinely delightful bit of knowledge, thank you for sharing this!! omg

14.5.17 // Just a lil post to let you guys I’m not dead - I’ve just been a busy little lady in my study cave. I had two major assignments due last week but was also dealing with some chronic pain - which was absolute hell for me physically and emotionally, but my head is a little clearer now, and my desk is A LOT cleaner now.
4 days til my exam and after that I’ll be done with this semester and my first year of uni!! I can’t wait until break so I can read ALL THE BOOKS, and hopefully get around to filming those videos you guys have been asking for. 💗
P.s. I’m still on hiatus atm, and haven’t had a chance to reply to all my messages but they’re piling up so please bear with me! I’m still active on instagram though.
When people ask me why they should pay a human translator instead of using google translate I show them this picture:
