tbh it’s a red flag that the inventor of chiropractic got the idea from a ghost. bones are like the #1 thing ghosts don’t have
the 'penises taint women' line is at the crux of transmisogyny, biphobia and whorephobia and so trans women bi women and women who do sex work ought to be getting together and beating people to death with hammers
I think you should be able to afford to live on your own and completely independently off minimum wage.
i was also thinking about how sensual the snow was, how suggestive the curves of the snowbanks appeared, their softness
Say it with me folks:
“Eat the rich” means 1%ers and billionaires
middle class is closer to poverty than being a multimillionaire
“The rich” does NOT include children of billionaires (come on we’re at least slightly better than the plagues of Egypt)
Upper middle class children SHOULD NOT feel guilt over having money
Being aware of privilege and using your privilege to help others IS NOT a guilt trip
Constantly feeling guilty helps no one
Billionaires, however, should feel guilty over hoarding wealth.
Upper middle class is NOT rich
Black Lives Matter
Trans rights are human rights
My uncle was one of the top surgeons in the country. He was upper middle class definitely. When he got cancer, his insurance didn’t cover all the treatments he would need and after 5 years he drained his savings on cancer treatments (while still working most of that time) and eventually died because he couldn’t afford the expensive treatments that might have saved him.
If you are upper middle class and you get sick, it will likely bankrupt your family. It’s fucked.
For all of the idiots in the notes ^
Honest to god - even if you make 6 figures a year? you're closer to poverty than true wealth. Check your shit and remember who your real allies and enemies are guys.
A 6 figure income is a lot right? That’s say: 223,000 dollars a year Which is 112 dollars an hour. Most people would consider that upper middle class. That’s enough money to have a nice house, go on fun vacations. That’s slight more than the average doctor makes.
223,000 dollars is what Jeff Bezo makes in a minute
the well-off and the rich are not the same.
There was a wonderful study done about 15 years ago I think, that shows that people cannot accurately identify their income bracket. Most people who own a home think they are upper middle class when in fact they are closer to the poverty line. Even people living well below poverty often identify as middle class. The wealth gap is even worse now. I wonder if anyone actually knows their financial standing.
This post is from 2020. Things did not improve.

In light of the no.1 trending topic on this site, I'd like to inform youse that Kitty Kendall, one of the survivors who bravely spoke out against Neil Gaiman and accused him of rape in 2025, has said here and here that if you are looking to support her and other survivors, you can make a donation to OurVOICE (the counselling service Kendall herself used) or your local rape crisis centre. If you can't make a donation, you can help to ensure people do not forget what Kendall and other survivors have gone through and continue to go through as they pursue legal action, and that Gaiman has already spent a lot of money in the attempt to sue these women for speaking out.
this is gonna sound really bitchy but some people really need to learn to realize when someone isn't talking to them. if you don't like beans then the lady posting a bean soup recipe isn't fucking talking to you. if you dont like reading then the people who post about the books they're reading aren't fucking talking to you.
I wanna start saying "not you, rabbit ears" bc that's what my dad always said growing up but idk if the tone will come across.
actually tbh pregnancy as a concept would not suck so much in fiction if women were allowed to be mothers and also fully fleshed out characters outside of that role. a lot of men in media get to be fully fleshed out characters even if they have children; the mentor role is infamous - but women don't particularly get to occupy the same three dimensionality men do when it comes to guiding children. which is a shame because i find stories about the interiority of mothers or women authority figures to be some of the most fascinating. but in the eyes of society, mothers are demanded to be perfect in a way fathers aren't, so having a flawed woman mentor figure is much rarer in media.
i want to make it clear that on this post i said "rarer." i did not say that three dimensional mother figures do not exist. in fact, many people in the tags have listed examples and it's wonderful! if anyone wants to find new stuff to watch/read, there's a bunch of recommendations in this post now. if you have any of your own, please share!
i will note that this is something i wrote after watching ikoku nikki, which is an anime where an aunt who has no desire for children takes in her niece after her sister's death. and i truly enjoyed that show for how much it explored the interiority of not only both the aunt and the niece, but the late sister, who is implied to have post-partum depression and a complicated relationship to motherhood.
when i watched it, i really enjoyed it, but i also went "why is this so rare? i have seen so much media where fathers have complicated relationships to their children, and it was not even in a show dedicated to specifically a father and their child." some of the most infamous action hero premises is that a man must go out on an adventure because of his wife or his children - there is an entire concept of the fridged woman, but less so for a man. there are iconic male mentors in fiction, be it yoda, gandalf, mr. miyagi, dumbledore, and more. when i go on a "top ten mentor figures in media" list, its almost always entirely men.
this is changing, obviously! media is always changing. and also media includes things such as movies, tv, comics, manga, books, magazines, and much more. they're not all the same, so the landscape may be different. i'll say just off the top of my head as an example: avatar the last airbender has almost entirely no women authority figures. the white lotus is made up of entirely men. the closest i can think of is gran-gran, who is only a character for a couple episodes - and katara & zuko's mothers, who are both dead. but legend of korra improves this greatly! toph gets to grow up and be a mother and she's not perfect. lin chooses to not have children, while her sister suyin gets to have interesting dynamics with her children. if you read the legacy of yangchen novels, chaisee is one of my favorite characters in there. so we can see this pattern change in continuing franchises, and i hope it only improves as we get new shows, books, movies, etc.
i think its also important to note that audience perception is also misogynistic. because when shows do write three dimensional women, the audience also interprets her in a sexist and misogynistic lens. if a mother is not perfect, then she must be evil. mothers are interpreted in black and white, and not given the same grace men are to mess up. because raising children is HARD! there are tons of reasons to have doubts, be it from things such as post-partum, mental illness, disability, one's circumstances and economic burdens, or even simply not particularly liking children! there are so many fascinating stories to tell about mothers wanting children but their circumstances making that complicated, or mothers second guessing themselves without automatically being villainized. but its also up to the audience to interpret those characters in a three dimensional lens, instead of flattening them.
and obviously, some people may just be uncomfortable with pregnancy as a topic because it is, of course, pregnancy. some people automatically are squeamish, and i understand that. but pregnancy is also something many people choose! and i think media should explore that in a meaningful way, in all sorts of genres. because if there's representation for everything else in media - be it fantasy, sci-fi, slice of life, westerns and slow introspective 100k novels - then i think mothers should also know their life continues after they have children. should get to see themselves in their favorite media and favorite genre as well. and i think also even little kids should have this too! they should watch shows where they know that if they grow up to be a mother, they can do a bunch of kickass things still!
anyways, thanks for listening to my rant. and thank you to all the people in the replies to this post. there are a lot of things i need to check out :)
I love how varied and universally weird the circumstances for making lifelong friendships are. Here's this guy I accidentally messaged once and I could not imagine my life without them now. Here's this girl I was so scared of when I met her, I would kill for her and remind her to rest on the regular. Here's this other guy we have so much in common we used to joke we were the same person in different timelines. It took us years to meet in person and I attended his wedding. There are also people who entered my life in absolutely unremarkable ways but changed it forever for the better. It's wonderful how easy it is to find people to love.
This is the best post I have ever written, read the notes and be blessed by loving your friends magic
