Day 286 of quarantine I have discovered www.webstaurantstore.com
It is, I BELIEVE, a website intended to be used by restaurants for bulk ordering food and utensils. And this is bringing me such unbounded delight scrolling through and recognizing that I, a single individual, ALSO can order ridiculous obscene enormous offensive-to-all-common-sensibilities shipments of BULK FOOD, to my LITTLE LITTLE APARTMENT, for PENNIES on the dollar. I have this god given power to flood my entire living space with bulk grains and it is one single button click away from my reality.
30 POUNDS of chocolate for $100. 20 POUNDS of peas for $13?? $13!!!! I will wake up every single morning from now on knowing that a box of donuts and a sack of dried split peas heavy enough to bodily injure someone both carry equal monetary weight. 25 POUNDS OF ONION POWDER for $50. Do you understand the enormity? the accessibility? the potential here? With the single click of the button I can put myself in a position of bequeathing more than a humanly comprehensible amount of onion powder in my will. AND IT WOULD ONLY COST ME $50 TO MAKE THIS A REALITY.
But what gets me
What truly gets me
is the 50 POUND BAG OF RICEÂ
FOR LESS THAN $20
Do you know how much that kills me? How much Iâm losing my mind? that I can order MYSELF WORTH OF RICE for something to the tune of $50? IÂ can OUT-RANK MYSELF WITH RICE, DEMOCRATICALLY OVERRULE MYSELF WITH RICE, IN MY OWN APARTMENT for the fucking PENNIES that is $50
Iâm so sorry for the normal person Iâll be after quarantine because the cabin-fever version of me Iâm inhabiting right now is perhaps just uninhibited enough to follow through on this dream Iâve just discovered of out-ricing myself.
real talk though, if you had a large number of people in your community who wanted a particular food item and couldnât afford it (for instance if youâre in a food desert and need produce or if youâre a part of a large disabled and/or overworked community who all need prepared frozen food), you could pool funds and get an order from a supply store like this.
it requires organizing for finance management, ordering, transport, and distribution, but if you build a stable mutual aid network, itâs genuinely within the realm of possibility.
This idea is called a buyers club (or buying club, buying coop, etc) and itâs a great time-tested method of mutual aid. And there are guides and tools for starting your own at managemy.coop
I voted for Viper because he didnât get a fair chance. He wanted it bad and tried to fight for it , I want to see what he can do given a fair shot. I wanna see what 152 can do.
One of the most memorable speeches I've ever heard was given at my beloved's graduation. They attended a pretty crunchy school natural medicine. They went for acupuncture but they also had many degrees including nutrition, naturopathic medicine, and most importantly to this story: midwifery.
The common consensus across campus was that the midwives operated on their own frequency which is a nice way to say they were usually really weird, even by the standards of a pretty alternative crowd of people. Not weird in a bad way. But weird nonetheless. They straddled the boundary between life and death and it changed them.
I had never experienced a midwife before the ceremony which is why I didn't think anything of the fact that a midwife stepped up to give the graduation speech. My friends nearby had a stir of repressed amusement and elbowing each other which did puzzle me slightly.
The speech began as a story, which I heartily approved of. The midwife related an experience in which a woman told her that during her first birth she had screamed too much and used up her energy in that instead of pushing and the midwife, to the collective masses assembled to watch a solemn ceremony, said, "I told her this time she would need to scream with her vagina."
The audience was slightly stunned by this, myself included. I scanned the crowd to see dropped jaws and wide eyes. It was such a bold statement to make in an academic setting and no one quite knew what to make of it.
The midwife continued unperturbed.
She related that many dads didn't know what to do during the birthing process and that this particular dad chose to chant over and over, "You're gonna be huge, you're gonna be huge," as his wife screamed with her vagina to birth their child. The midwife mused that she didn't know if he was talking to their child or his wife or if he even registered what he was saying in that moment.
Then the subject strayed toward how the student body had strained and striven toward this goal, this endgame that was the result of sleepless nights, hard work, and camaraderie. The speech seemed to have moved onto more solid ground and traditional graduation reminiscences. The crowd settled, thinking the worst had passed.
But as the midwife wrapped up she said, "As you go forth into the world, pushed out by this noble institution to help the masses, just remember one thing," she paused and the audience held their breath while the beat drew out before she finally whispered:
"You're gonna be huge."
There was a roar of astonished laughter as her speech neatly tied their graduation into a metaphor for being birthed unto the world and we finally understood the point of her anecdote.
The speech lives in infamy in all our collective memories. Years later my beloved's dad will still be like, "Remember that bizarre graduation speech?"
And it was. It was bizarre. But I'll say this. I've attended a lot of graduations, and I don't remember any of the speeches half so well as I do that one.
You can only reblog this on the 3st of January
the 3st huh?
the 3st.
2026 is possibly the most 3st of all time.
I think we really need to watch some other media maybe
i think we really need to read some nonfiction
you'll spend so long in deep discussions of gender online and then go talk to someone in your real life family and find out they still havent gotten past "women can be good at things" and its like oh okay jesus christ i forgot some people are still on the baby steps huh
On Saturday I said to my partner, as I have said for months, "A ten thousand dollar a year raise would solve so many of my problems."
As of this morning I was reluctantly looking for jobs because I love my job and don't want to leave it, but see: $10k raise problem solver.
As of noon today this was no longer an issue, because my boss called me with the news that I was getting a $10K merit raise.
I feel like a huge weight has been lifted off my shoulders. This is roughly $200 extra per paycheck. Enough to pay off debt faster, rebuild my savings, and spend a weekend a month in Milwaukee getting obscenely laid. The sex I'm going to have on $200 extra per paycheck. You can't even.
May all of you get the $10K raise your soul has yearned for. And whatever level of sex you can be satisfied with for $200.
hey bestie i think ur post might be charmed 'cause you aren't gonna fuckin believe what happened today
The City of Atlanta Georgia has decided to demolish the research and conservation center of the Amphibian Foundation. This organization works tirelessly to conserve the Frogs, Toads, Salamanders, Newts, and other amphibians in the United States. In addition, they provide key education for herpetologists on the care, conservation, and preservation of reptiles and amphibians.
This emergency need is compounded by the government mass firing of conservation officials and the pulling of funds from many of the country's conservation organizations.
If you can help please donate here:
The building where AF is located will be demolished in June 2026.
Key points from the Amphibian Foundation.
Our building will be demolished in 2026, and we need to identify a new location (or locations) for 7 labs and over 1,000 animals, many of which are endangered and part of critical conservation programs.
We've identified a new location for most of AF, but not our research and conservation programs. We have an amazing lead, but it's not confirmed yet.
Our first fundraising project is the AF Emergency Fund as the minimum cost estimates to move this many labs and animals safely is $50,000. (It costs about 50 USD per animal to move them)
If you can't donate.. please share... here.. and everywhere else.
Hey guys! I'll be opening donation commissions for this fundraiser- send me proof donation and you'll get some cool art of an animal of your choice!
Amphibians are already super underrepresented in conservation, despite being one of the most endangered groups in the world. The AF has just raised $80,000 so far, and is trying to get up to $100,000; this will provide care for 1,000 amphibians while the AF sort out what to do next. If we can help them reach that goal that'd be amazing!
Reblogging this again- as of today the AF only needs $5000 to reach their goal!

I'M STARRING IN A PLAY ABOUT PARASOCIAL RELATIONSHIPS
A bittersweet rom-com for the digital age, starring Abigail Thorn
hey tumblr followers, this is extremely your shit
Next year I'm going to be starring in a play called Blink by Phil Porter. It's about parasocial relationships and whether you can really fall in love with someone you've never met
19th Feb - 22nd March, King's Head Theatre, London
Considering how many people on This Webbe Site keep sending me asks saying "I love you" I think it's pretty timely lol. There's loads of themes of loneliness and digital relationships and grief
I'm super excited for this, I think the role is gonna be a fun challenge for me. It's also being produced by the same team who produced The Prince! More announcements when the producers say I can make them :P
If you want to sit in the front 2 rows there's a special code on my Patreon that unlocks them!
Redditors crashed the website with donations over $25k and 0 wishes left. via /r/MadeMeSmile

With the holidays here, thought this is worth sharing
This website is still here and some of the asks are heartbreaking. Like âJamie wants a new pair of jeans because heâs never had new clothes beforeâ. Or âKayla wants a bag with her name on it for when she moves foster homes again.â
A lot of these kids ask for brand name clothing and it sounds pretentious but having one nice new fashionable piece of clothing means a lot when all your previous clothes have come out of black trash bags from charities.
Btw, you can filter wishes based on gender, age, price, etc to help you find the perfect wish for you. This charity is LGBTQ-affirming (unlike a lot of religion-based charities that are unfortunately homophobic), so you can even look for nonbinary kids to donate to.
Also, I would really encourage people to be open to granting wishes made by older foster kids (14+) or young adults who aged out of the system and still lack family support. Theyâre so often forgotten.
If you donât have a lot of money but still want to help give a kid a nice Christmas, there are lots of wishes that are $24 for stocking stuffers as well, or $15 for a sqishmallow!
https://www.onesimplewish.org
I just want to add that right now, there are so many pending wishes for food. Kids are asking for food from the universe (and yeah, âkidsâ includes young adults just entering the work forceâeighteen and hungry is just as morally wrong as eight and hungry).

Is this about how ppl born in the late 20th century have a unique and fluid experience of navigating barriers to information access and its our responsibility to teach the younger folks how to tinker with technology to avoid being spoonfed everything we experience in order to have critical skills that keep us informed, autonomous, and able to hold power despite looming threats of authoritarianism or..........???
