the old 'what if the world was made of pudding'
what I love about that last rebuttal is it almost certainly took more time and effort to go and get two different goat cheeses than any simple verbal answer would have lol.
“hold on, this question is so ridiculous I need props to deal with it”
Asking rabbis questions still goes like this by the way
As we barrel into another Pride Month, we will inevitably all see the stupidest, coldest, most reductive, exclusionary, assimilationist nonsense discourse simmer to the surface of social media again like scum foaming up on a long simmering soup.
And when that happens, whether it's garbage takes about trans people, or ace people, or nonbinary people, or neopronouns, or he/him lesbians, or bi women with boyfriends, or furries, or *what the fuck ever*- remember-
You do not need to quibble over the details. You do not need verbally spar on every hill that dipshits want to die on.
Just stop and ask- hey, does this fucking matter?
Does it matter if some queer people do _____? Does it cause any actual, measurable, material harm? Is this *actually* a problem? Be specific. Beyond just 'it makes me uncomfortable' and 'but that doesn't make sense' - does it actually *matter*?
Because if the answer is no, then who the fuck cares?
I don't care if something is confusing, or illogical, or weird, or makes you uncomfortable. Does it actually harm anyone? No? Then mind your fucking business.
Its not your responsibility to Lincoln-Douglass debate every overzealous puritan and under-informed tween on the complex nuance and inherent political context of the queer experience. Focus on what matters . Ask them what, if any, harm does ____ actually do, and THAT is all you need to address. (Oh you wanna defend ___ spaces? Which spaces specifically? What are you worried about happening? Oh is ____ normalizing ____? Does it? Does that...matter?)
Because even if other people dont like it, Queer People will continue to be weird, messy, confusing, contradictory, illogical, and strange as we all do our fucking best to be ourselves as best we can be. The way we survive and grow and thrive is by giving each other the grace and space to do so, whether or not we deeply, logically resonate with whatever others have going on.
And we don't talk shit about each other. We don't take pot shots at the queers who are queerer than we are. Throwing other queer people under the bus has never made things better.
So. Circle the wagons, close the ranks, and get comfortable rubbing elbows with people who are, you know, freaks and weirdos.
Happy Pride.
Look, it's simple. If a person has to actively work to make money, they're not "the rich" and they're not the problem. A surgeon making $200k a year still stops making money if they stop showing up to do surgery, because they're still selling their labor. The radical discrepancies in how we value different skills are certainly a problem, but the guy who makes money when he doesn't even get out of bed is the one making money on the value of other people's labor.
Time for my favorite chart!
Notice billions ain't even on there. Outliers something something.
Hey scroll back up. The second column is LIQUID ASSETS. That's essentially money that you can spend today. This isn't even talking about salary or net worth.
I thought I was Level 3. I have a savings account that does get a little interest. Not much but it's a start.
No. It turns out I'm not Level 3. I'm level 0.
“They kissed as if the universe began and ended there; as if nothing else existed but their two bodies, their two mouths, and the desire between them. Jean was breathless and there was an urgency in her she had never known before. She wanted to eat and drink this woman. Her body danced on a million points, and at the same time it felt so heavy, her desire lurching and churning like a broiling sea.” — Fiona Shaw, Tell it to the Bees (2009)
btw if i see one post about anne frank’s sexuality from goyim this month i will start swinging
Isn't it lucky for non-Jews that she died before she could answer that question one way or the other and now they have a perfect little Jewish corpse to play with like a paper doll 🥰🥰🥰
Anne didn't want anyone to read those pages, she glued the pages together to make sure they were her secrets, she was murdered knowing those were still secrets that only she knew.
Restorers carefully separated the pages and her secrets were published in later editions with the permission of her father Otto Frank. She was young and didn't know what these feelings meant about her, she was a Jewish girl who was murdered so near the beginning of her life that she never had the opportunity or privilege to draw her own conclusions about herself.
Anne Frank's questions about herself don't belong to anyone but Anne Frank.
just a quick fact check re: anne gluing pages together. while anne did glue brown paper over some sections in her diary, these sections contained information about “sexual matters,” including sexual intercourse, menstruation, prostitution, and jokes about sex. in 2016, the anne frank house discovered these passages and restored them + detailed their findings to the public. as far as i can glean from reading articles about this discovery, these passages didn’t describe her sexuality.
however, other sections definitely did—and it’s most likely that otto frank, her father, omitted them in early published editions. anne frank herself was rewriting a new version of her diary for publication; when otto frank helped edit her diary, he included passages from both her own edited and unedited sections.
regardless of semantics here, the through line remains the same: anne frank herself did not ultimately choose which parts of herself to share with the world and which to keep private. otto frank did the best he could to both honor her memory & respect her privacy when omitting passages. (it’s also not hard to determine why either otto or anne might have omitted sections about her attraction to girls in their own respective edits).
furthermore, she did not get the chance to explore an lgbt identity because nazis murdered her for being jewish. that’s the point all comments above & in the tags reiterate and why we’re really tired of lgbt goyim focusing on these sections from her diary—anne frank may be a historical figure now, but she was once a regular young girl who died young because of antisemitism. the least you can do to honor her memory is refrain from speculating about an aspect of her identity she was prevented from exploring & claiming.
regarding the goyische appropriation of anne frank in general, i highly recommend all goyim (and jews) to read this article by dara horn:
Why did we turn an isolated teenage girl into the world’s most famous Holocaust victim?
“scientists don’t want you know” is a phrase that always cracks me up because if you actually meet a scientist they will be shaking and crying like an overstimulated chihuahua with the need to let you know
Millions of Jews are thinking thoughts we do not express. You cannot live in a Jewish body after the Holocaust without being troubled by such musings about that body’s nature and fate at the hands of others who can define it at will. Like people living on the San Andreas Fault, or in other places prone to earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, hurricanes, tornados, forest fires, mudslides, and the like, Jews aware of their history live with the ongoing sense that a social or societal quake may make non-Jews their enemies more or less overnight. And since those others are far more numerous, our vulnerability is obvious. The social structure may suddenly shift beneath us, leaving us scrambling rather desperately for a foothold. It is not a paranoid fantasy, it’s a historical reality. It probably can’t happen “here,” we think, but then again perhaps it can.

this trend of shitting on peer-reviewed academic studies in favor of tweeting “we already knew this was happening” is so soul-crushing. not to be an elitist cunt, but we have got to open the schools again. people genuinely seem to have forgotten that their personal lived experience isn’t indicative of the larger population, AND IF IT IS…… then you need researchers to support these assertions from a relevant data pool instead of a blog post from 2013 💀
"Believe women and the marginalized" does not replace the value of empirical data.
it's also just so shitty being a scientist right now and seeing people shit on research at a time when the federal US government is trying to starve and strangle American research. like. when you say "oh we knew this already, there's no point funding research to prove it" we hear that our work doesn't have value. and if you think scientists aren't hanging out here on tumblr in our free time, well, think again.
It also ignores all the scientist who got into the field BECAUSE no one in power would believe them without empirical data. People who spend years documenting and analyzing data so it can’t be denied, so that when you need to speak to power you have a solid piece of evidence that holds weight in courts, schools, and doctors offices to stand on. Scientist who are trying to do research to lift their communities who then get spit on by said community saying ‘we already knew’ and ‘this research is pointless’.
Do you think there are no Native American scientist doing environmental research? No black women studying public health impactors? No neurodivergent pedagogy researchers? There are. They are some of the most passionate and driven scientists out there, because they are people trying to help the people and places they love.
You do your own community a discredit when you dismiss scientist doing ‘obvious’ studies because more and more often there are names on those studies from your community who have punched their way through a glass ceiling to stand before the world bloody knuckled and victorious to say “Look. Listen. Understand, accept, and change.”

IWTV but its New Girl quotes (i spent so long editing this i can still hear louis’ meow echoing in my head)
Tourists in the Marvel Universe visiting New York and afterwards complaining to whoever they think the Relevant Authorities are like 'i was in New York for a WHOLE WEEK and Spider-Man didn't show up ONCE' and the relevant authorities (idk. City council?) having to issue a statement along the lines of 'we do not control the Spider-Man' (subheading: he is actually a wanted criminal)
Peter Parker (in bed recovering from the flu) (very tired) scrolling twitter like what the fuck is happening
#its like ethical dolphin swimming #we do not control whether the dolphins are present #we do not control whether the spiderman is present
company running 'Spider-man tours' where they take you around places Spider-man often visits and also locations of famous Spider-man incidents advertised like 'come to New York and see the Amazing Spider-man!'* (*no refunds if Spider-man is not there.)
constantly getting complains about Spider-man not turning up and responding like 'it is clear in the promotional materials that we do not guarantee Spider-man'
Peter Parker's work inbox getting flooded by emails from tour companies who want to hire him as a Spider-Man consultant since his photography suggests he's really good at knowing where Spider-Man will be
under US law, it's illegal for anyone who's not a member of a recognised native tribe to own an eagle feather. the penalty is a $100,000 fine.
14 years ago when I had recently moved to Alaska, I went hiking with an Aleut friend, and she pointed to a feather lying on the ground and said "hey that's a bald eagle tail feather, you should grab it!" and I was like "uhh I'm very white and that's very illegal" and she went "they're fuckin everywhere up here man. I have 20." so she grabs it off the ground and hands it to me and says "there, now it's a ceremonial gift from an indigenous person."
and I'm like, okay, cool, I guess this is how we do things in Alaska. nice.
so I keep this bald eagle tail feather around for years. display it in my home among other cherished memorabilia from places I've lived and visited, etc.
on a whim, I have just now looked it up. there is no exemption to that law for a ceremonial gift from an indigenous person. the last 7 years I lived in the US, I was technically a bald eagle poacher.
probably a good thing I don't intend to move back there anytime soon. I wonder what the statute of limitations is on bird crimes.
@freedomisscaryshit I'm fucking dying I think you forgot the word "feathers" in your tags?? or do you just wish you could grab whole ass eagles that land in your yard??
As an Indigenous person, it continues to astound me that there are such strict laws (written by White people) in our name, laws against...picking up things just found on the ground. Like, stop pretending this is "for" us. We don't want this.
so, for clarity, that's not what this is. the law against possessing feathers is an anti-poaching measure, derived from a North American treaty protecting certain migratory bird species from hunting. that treaty has an exemption for indigenous people to allow tribes that use eagle feathers in ceremonial or religious practices to continue doing so.
i used to collect feathers (illegally) as a teenager and the thing is that it's incredibly important for feathers from wild birds to be illegal to possess because it ensures that they never become fashionable to wear. the reason we passed the migratory bird act was because the american and european fashion industry was driving species to extinction in a timespan of years. not just decades. the ecological devastation of exporting birds for hats was absolutely insane and people were watching wetlands and forests and meadows just empty out in realtime. look at the wikipedia article for the plume trade.
the law against 'picking feathers up off the ground' means that you can't go shoot an eagle then sell the feathers on etsy by saying you 'just found them'. you can't own them no matter where they came from, which makes sure that they're not going to come from any birds killed and then secretly disposed of.
these laws, as harsh and ridiculous as they seem, saved flamingos, spoonbills, egrets, and all kinds of hawks and eagles from extinction. the minute these laws weaken and people can make money off killing them again, they're fucked.

in what world "dreams pass in time" line is actually obi-wan trying to comfort anakin? this is actually one of obi-wan's fuck up moments
OBI-WAN: You look tired. <- obi-wan brings up anakin's tired state; i'm not saying obi-wan doesn't care about anakin at all, it's just that the way he carries on this conversation sucks.
ANAKIN: I don't sleep well anymore. <- implied insomnia/sleep deprivation, which in itself speaks of the seriousness of the situation; i want to note that anakin doesn't try to hide anything, when he's told that he looks tired, he directly says that he has trouble sleeping.
OBI-WAN: Because of your mother? <- obi-wan's assumption implies that anakin was already having trouble sleeping because of shmi or at least worrying about her constantly, which makes sense considering anakin believes she is still enslaved and could be abused/die at any moment.
ANAKIN: I don’t know why I keep dreaming about her. <- anakin doesn't ask obi-wan for advice directly, but let's not be fooled, he openly expresses interest and wonders why dreams even happen, it's a veiled request for advice, but it is there.
OBI-WAN: Dreams pass in time. <- and obi-wan just shuts him down.
honestly, to me, this whole situation with obi-wan and anakin's nightmares in aotc looks like obi-wan is so used to anakin constantly worrying about shmi, so every time his padawan has nightmares or anxiety attacks, he's just like, "is this about your mom? oh, well, no need to worry then" — i make this assumption because obi-wan shuts anakin up right away when he finds out it's all about shmi, as if his mentee's moral injury about his mother remaining in slavery is just a pain in the neck for obi-wan
i'm so tired of people making excuses like "anakin didn't tell poor boo-boo obi-wan that his mom was suffering, so obi-wan is a saint and would have definitely helped her if it weren't for that stupid anakin," because shmi was suffering even before the events of aotc. shmi suffered every day of her life while anakin was in the jedi order and he wasn't allowed to help her; she spent years in slavery with a bomb in her body, she was exploited and abused, she suffered! and you know, shmi's life and safety have value beyond your stupid jedi discourse
it makes me sad to think about it, because anakin's nightmares about shmi are so vivid and terrible that he screams in his sleep and wakes up padme, meanwhile for obi-wan it's just an inconvenience
