Since it’s grad season, I thought I’d share my musical theatre nerd of a grad cap from years ago. I was quite proud of it!

second, i already knew that tsa was created as a direct response to 9/11, but as an ‘05 born, i did indeed forget that for a moment until the bit where they mention not allowing sharps in carry-ons when they board again

I was in a (very very very) amateur production of come from away and every once in a while there was a line that reminded me of how different airport security was before 9/11. Heck, there barely was any! But Bob's line in 28 hours/wherever we are "later that night I'm up in the cockpit with some of the other passengers" and oz's line "no scissors. No nail clippers. If any bags are unidentified, they'll be blown up" and beverley's line in finale "with all the new security, kids aren't even allowed up in the cockpit anymore" were all kind of like. Woah. I forgot that this system is less than 25 years old. I mean I'm also a 2000s kid so I've never known anything different but it was still a bit of an oh damn I forgot that tsa didn't exist before 9/11.

Hey. Why isn’t the moon landing a national holiday in the US. Isn’t that fucked up? Does anyone else think that’s absurd?

It was a huge milestone of scientific and technological advancement. (Plus, at the time, politically significant). Humanity went to space! We set foot on a celestial body that was not earth for the first time in human history! That’s a big deal! I’ve never thought about it before but now that I have, it’s ridiculous to me that that’s not part of our everyday lives and the public consciousness anymore. Why don’t we have a public holiday and a family barbecue about it. Why have I never seen the original broadcast of the moon landing? It should be all over the news every year!

I'm loving this new trend of people going to zoos and participating in animal enrichment. We use to observe large exotic animals for our entertainment, but the fact is that we are now trying to make ourselves equally as entertaining for them. It's interactive, completely parpicipatory and I would argue that eventually someone's gonna come up with something new enough that it expland ethologists understanding about how some animals think, problem solve, communicate and feel and I think its fantastic.
