Begging people to stop reblogging this AI trash from āThe Phantom Painterā on Instagram (instagram.com/phantom.painting). Iāve been seeing it on my dash more and more often from people who are otherwise anti-AI and either canāt tell itās AI or donāt care because it looks cool.
This is the kind of shit that is VERY CLEARLY trained on the works of existing talented artistsā with distinct styles and this asshole is selling prints and making a profit off of stealing other peopleās hard work.
Donāt give people like this money or attention and they will go away.
Please, if youāre going to buy art prints, buy them from an actual artist.
Lets have some truly cute bunny media for once
my bun has one too <3
So long, Solidarity Summer! Helloooooo, Fuck You Pay Me Fall!
Donāt you just love Kiss My Ass Autumn?
ok this isĀ āearring magic kenā who was introduced in 1992 (and discontinued shortly thereafter)
basically mattel had done a survey and discovered that girls didnāt think ken wasĀ ācoolā enough
SO someone had the bright idea to research coolness by sending people to raves which, at the time, were mostly hosted & attended by gay men. so they went to these raves and took notes on what the fashions were and finally landed on this outfit, mesh shirt & allĀ
this doll became the best selling ken doll in history, mostly because gay men bought it in droves. (many of them said his necklace was supposed to be a cockring) but mattel and a number of parents werenāt very amused and discontinued the dollĀ
OH MY GOD YOUāRE LEAVING OUT THE BEST PART
SO
MAGIC EARRING KEN. This bitch gay as HELL. supposedly the aforementioned rings on him are for āmagic earringsā and clip on charms. These charms are advertised as totally COMPLETELY heterosexual, not gay at ALL, see thereās a Barbie that also has Magic Earring Action with clip on charms! Ken wears them to match, because heās STRAIGHT
Hereās the issue: THERE IS NO MATCHING BARBIE. Magic Earring Ken is out here straight up wearing cock rings on his jacket with a thinly devised advertising ploy to make it SEEM not-gay. But itās DEFINITELY GAY. (And if youāre thinking, why cock rings? Well way back in 1992 gay culture was HUGE on wearing cock rings, it was the in-style. Everyone who was gay wore one, even women; you sewed them to your leather jacket, and the placement indicated some of your sexual preference. In case you were wondering, Ken is a Bottom.)
AND IT GETS BETTER. Magic Earring Ken was on the shelves for six weeks before they pulled him. In that short amount of time? Magic Earring Ken became the BEST SELLING Barbie Doll Mattel has EVER SOLD. LET THAT SINK IN. SIX WEEKS. And now every time these wheezy old hetero windbag execs go to look at their sales board, theyāre forever haunted by Magic Earring Ken at the top of their charts.
Gay as hell, Cock Ring Bottom Ken, the Best Selling Mattel Doll. Pride.
please take the time out of your day to read about Magic Earring Kenā¢

i'm thinking about yosuke again and it makes me so annoyed because of how hard atlus dropped the ball with him. it's so obvious that they made his character arc with the intention of him being a closeted high schooler in the year 2011 that struggles with internalized homophobia who learns to finally accept himself, but then randomly decided to cut out the payoff to all of the setup so it just makes him extremely homophobic. the whole game is about accepting the part of yourself that you hate, and yosuke coming to terms with his bisexuality throughout the course of the story fits into that theme perfectly.
it's small stuff like this and so many other moments that make much more sense with the context of him originally being planned on having a romance route. he projects his idea of "manliness" and what's "right" onto both others and himself to make up for the social stigma placed onto him by society; he's trying to convince himself that he's "normal" so he can fit in. him feeling ostracized because he's the manager of junes' son is a blatant parallel to this, and the two of them could've easily been intertwined.
"i never knew i had such... heat inside. d-don't make me say stuff like that!"
"don't go... i... like you." (ore, omae ga suki da ćäæŗć ćå ć 儽ć ć ć -> known as the most common form of a love confession in japan and is almost always used romantically, especially given the context)
this is an obviously repressed queer kid who has been struggling to grasp his sexuality and growing feelings for yu; there is so much subtext throughout the game that has all culminated to this momentāor at least, should've culminated to this moment. but it didn't.
funnily enough, i don't think it was atlus projecting their bigotry onto him at first until p4g, but making a genuine attempt at a good character arc that, much like the rest of persona 4, misses the mark in the worst way possible despite being so close to saying something meaningful (cough kanji and naoto). it's like they chickened out at the last second, but "forgot" to take out the parts that just make him a homophobic asshole with the context removedāand then even doubled down on it in p4g lmao. the thing i'm confused about is that hoshino (the former director of the persona series who is extremely disgusting and bigoted) was... already in the company when the lines were recorded??? so i'm baffled as to why they were allowed to come up with it in the first place before deciding against it.
this could've been really great and realistic representation that could've helped other queer people who were going through the same thing yosuke wasāespecially in the year 2008āand i'm super disappointed that they decided to cut it. persona 4 is about confronting the problematic elements about yourself, and i cannot think of a greater example of this than yosuke and his internalized homophobia.
(bonus: the closet is made out of glass)

I first saw this post years ago, after my cat Loaf passed away and was really lonely for cat company. I remember wishing I had a cat that was this cuddly, and now I have one! This is Nani, my weighted blanket thatās been reincarnated as a cat!
Can I watch a great film knowing the actresses in it were terrorized and mistreated the entire time? Can I watch a football game knowing that the players are getting brain injuries right before my eyes? Can I listen to my favorite albums anymore knowing that the singers were all beating their wives in between studio sessions? Can I eat at the new fancy taco place knowing when the building that used to be there got bulldozed eight families got kicked out of their homes so they could be replaced with condos and a chain restaurant? Can I wear the affordable clothes I bought downtown that were probably assembled in a sweatshop with child labor? Can I eat quinoa? Can I eat this burger? Can I drink this bottled water? Can I buy a car and drive to work because Iām sick of taking an hour each way on the subway? Whose bones do I stand on? Whose bones am I standing on right now?Ā
On one hand, itās a privilege to be able to choose to acknowledge these horrors or notāweāre going to acknowledge that privilege. On the other hand, I once attended a lecture by the explorerer-conservationist Jacques-Yves Cousteauās daughter and son and they had a lot of opinions about what we could do to help the environment and the ocean and I talked about how in my country, we have to drink bottled water, because itās a desert and thereās only salt water all around, but weāre contributing to pollution and all of these thingsā¦
And she looked at me and told me not to fall into the trap of āactivist guilt.ā I couldnāt remember the exact words, but, it was the first time Iād heard the term and it took a weight off my shoulders.
We do what we can. Itās so much better than giving up entirely or not doing anything at all because we canāt do it perfectly. It doesnāt benefit anyone in the end if we just sit around feeling guilty about every little thing in life. Iād just joined tumblr back then (haha, so like, eight or nine years ago at this point?), I was being exposed to way more than Iād ever been before (I was previously just into feminism and animal rights/wildlife conservation/environmentalism since I was a kid), and it was weighing on me.
As long as humans are humans and living flawed lives, many consumed by greed, there will not be anything in this world untouched by evil.
I usually avoid stuff that says it was made in China or other cheap looking knockoffs, out of fear of them being made in sweatshops (now, I know even a lot of big brands use thoseā¦), itās exhausting. Then, I read something about how people who actually lived and worked in those would still buy this cheap stuff and how this shocked the foreigner reporting on it, but they just looked confused like, itās what they can afford and them avoiding consuming it isnāt going to change the whole system from the ground-up.
⦠it went on about how āmoney talksā and choosing where to put your money still feeds the whole capitalist system and is nearly a way of comforting yourself, but you not buying doesnāt mean everyone else isnāt. What needs to be tackled is at a much higher level than any of us can reach.
Of course, Iād still, given the choice, give my money to companies I agree with and Iāll boycott what I know to support awful stuff, but I also feel no superiority over this and know now itās not as black and white or easy as I thought it was.
This is the same reason that moral purityĀ āyou canāt enjoy [x] because itās Problematic ā¢ā is such nonsense, because nothing is pure. Thereās something bad about everything if you dig deep enough. As long as we lived in flawed human societies weāve got to make the best of what they offer us. If you have the choice and means, please, do support those who do good, but also, donāt beat yourself up over not living up to an unattainable ideal.
No one can. Youāll just make yourself so miserable, you either burn up and stop fighting entirely or youāll make yourself a non-productive, depressed heap just out of a bleeding heart left unchecked. You canāt make a change to this world if you refuse to engage in it.
Have a related article with self-care tips for activists.
Purity is one of the worst, most harmful myths humans ever invented.
Rebloging for this amazing reply telling us how to actually handle this, because yeah, sometimes Iāll simply shut down trying to find something that doesnāt cause harm to anyone

Remember when that girl tried to say that firefox was bad because a former CEO was homophobic and I pointed out why that was a terrible take (throwing out the baby [open source non-google web browser with great extensions] with the bathwater [dipshit who left like ten years ago and also developed javascript and i don't see you ditching all sites with java for your principles]) and she went and looked through my posts and tried to call me out for supporting hyperconsumptive capitalism and encouraging anorexia because I'd reblogged a photoset from a runway show and I was like "bitch I don't care about fashion, I've got a latex fetish" and then she blocked me?
That was very funny.
We have a dedicated one of these to use on my posts:
This is a great, great story.

The union busting firms are scared
As a fine dining cook, I found work in a union workplace around a year ago. My 40 hours a week are guaranteed except for Jan/feb/mar when thereās not enough customers, I get paid almost twice what I did at any other restaurant, if I work overtime, (more than 8 hours in one day, or more than 40 in a week), I actually get overtime pay, (and itās 1.5x my normal rate!). I get holiday pay, and in addition I get to either bank or pay out my holidays if I work those days, (either a paid day off when I want it, in addition to the holiday pay, or I get paid an addāl 8 hours at 1.5x that week). I also get two floating holidays, 4 paid random sick days, 2 paid family sick days, and 4 paid ādoctorās noteā sick days, (paid out by our health insurance), as well as general allowance to take as many unpaid sick days as I want without worrying for my job security. (Iāve been told that taking multiple months off is where we start to be concerned about abuse, so if I want to do that, I can go through our leave of absence procedures instead, where Iām allowed three 2-week periods a year generally for whatever reason I want, (If my manager wants to disagree, he has to get the union presidentās approval), and after that itās up to my manager to decide if heāll accept them). I get two weeks of paid vacation time a year, and an addāl week per year for every 5 years I work there. We get our legally mandated breaks, which, I know that sounds like a low bar, but taking anything other than a smoke break in a kitchen?!?! Unheard of! I get two 15ā²s and a lunch every shift! I get to sitdown and rest my legs and not get flak for it! I get a bonus at the end of the year, thereās official procedures for if my manager isnāt happy with me or wants to get rid of me, (three meetings, during which my union representative has to be present), (and getting rid of my classification doesnāt work, thereās rules for how someone ābumpsā other people if classifications are gotten rid of), and severance pay for when full-time employees that are downsized out of the company, thereās a pension plan, like . . . Guys, I have a 40-page handbook which details all of the rights my union has won me, and believe me, Iāve never had any of these at any prior workplace. And you know what my union dues are? $4 a paycheck. Of course Iām going to pay my union dues for all of those benefits.
Reblogging for this incredibly thorough explanation of what it's like to actually have a contract in place at a union workplace. I reblog a fair number of posts about how people should organize, but if you're like me, you might not know exactly what that can get you until you've actually gone through the process. Every contract is different because you bargain for what makes sense for your particular workplace, and every few years you re-negotiate with the employer to improve things in the next contract, but some things (like the right to have union representation when you talk to your boss about leave or discipline) are universal.
It's worth every penny of your dues, I promise.
Really good Twitter thread originally about Elon Musk and Twitter, but also applies to Netflix and a lot of other corporations.

lol. lmao even
i wonder how many people immediately canceling their subscriptions it took for them to pull back on this
The streamer said future plans for these measures will be communicated ahead of time.
Yeah itās important to note that this is not the same as WotC claiming that the ādraftā they sent out with contracts was just a draft.
Netflix still fully intends to roll out anti-sharing measures by March, they just didnāt intend to post them on their site this early (supposedly).
So keep canceling subscriptions until they realize that allowing password sharing is about the only thing that was keeping them as a viable streamer anymore lmao
