Forgive me for waxing poetic on an otherwise concise post, but there really is nothing like looking back at all the times you were treated like crap by adults as a kid and it felt like unfair bullshit and realize it actually was, in fact, unfair bullshit and you should have been twice as mad, at least. I always assumed when I grew up even if I didn't agree I'd at least come into some knowledge that makes all this confusing, upsetting behavior from adults make sense, and also assumed that I'd end up treating my own kid the same way if I had one because it's just what adults do but I'd get it...and then I hit 31 and went "Huh, actually this not only still makes zero sense, it makes LESS sense! What the fuck is wrong with you people!! Oh my god!!!"
Like that was a good moment in my healing journey, getting to tell little kid me she was right the whole time and actually should have been way angrier and don't worry, you will never treat your own child or any children like that one day because you know it's wrong just like you always have, and even if you do accidentally, you, unlike the people who raised you, are brave and strong enough to admit when you're wrong and have hurt someone and apologize and make it right. Even if they're a kid. Especially if they're a kid.
You were right the whole time.
(guy who doesn't really know how software updates work) i hope they keep the keyboard letters in the same order. i was just getting used to them
Found my 53yo very-much-not-online father in the kitchen today meticulously arranging cutlery on the countertop and i was like 'what are you doing' and he looked up at me with the world's most shit-eating grin and said "Your mother told me this is how you rick-roll the Youth" and i looked over and it was fucking. Loss.jpg.
i must stress that he's never seen the original comic. My mother simply showed him the shorthand symbol and he memorized it. As far as he is aware this is just a fucking hieroglyph that deals instant psychic damage to everyone under the age of 30
im so done with seeing articles about kids and screen time that doesnt mention parent behaviors even once. “kids are always on their phones” so are the parents! which the kids look to for how they should behave! ipad babies didn’t chose to only play on their ipads, thats what their parents gave them!
an anecdotal example: when i was a kid, all my parents would do in their minimal free time was watch tv and then they would be surprised when in my sister and i’s minimal free time we would also only watch tv/play video games. they scolded us for not reading books, but they never read books. they scolded us for not going outside but they never went outside.
“kids are always on their damn phones” my mom is in her 60s and opens up candy crush anytime she’s sitting — it isnt just the kids
its called creating an enabling environment. If parents want their children to not be using tablets/phones all the time, then they need to teach the skills and provide the resources needed for their children to engage in something other than technology.
i gotta be real with you guys im just sort of stunned tumblr has been running an open-front ZenDesk form for tumblr TOS reporting this whole time that doesnt require any kind of validation except a fucking email address. this one fact alone explains every single "why did so and so get banned for no reason" event of the past X years. however it is equally baffling that i didnt notice it before now. i would say it is baffling they implemented it in the first place but like i said, the management of their website is verifiably not well
Once when I was in undergrad, someone described something as “problematic” in class and our professor was like, “That’s cool, but ‘problematic’ doesn’t really mean anything. It means that the thing you’re describing has a problem, and in and of itself that’s not bad. Art, especially, should always have problems, or else it’s not interesting and not art, either. It sounds like you’re trying to say that this is bad, but you don’t want to say ‘bad.’ Is that right?”
So from then on whenever one of us called something problematic, he would make us talk it out until we could name the “bad” thing we were hinting at. In this particular class, 7/10 it was some type of oppression, and the remainder was like, “I’m uncomfortable because this is very new/confusing/pushing boundaries that made me feel safe.”
Once we stopped calling things “problematic” and stopping at that, class got way more interesting and... we all had to say, like, “that’s racist” or “that’s misogynistic” or “ew capitalism gross” out loud, which a lot of us had never done in a classroom before. Or we had to be like, “Uhhh... I’m not sure what’s so bad?” and confront our own beliefs and that was maybe even more useful.
Anyway. Whenever I see the word problematic, I can’t help but think of this professor being like, “Good starting point, now let’s get specific.” I think when we have to commit to saying “that’s ___” it requires a lot more careful thought about the truth and impact and complexities of whatever we’re claiming. Sometimes there really is some bullshit afoot, and also sometimes it’s art, and it should be full of problems, because that’s what art is.
#'this is present in the text' is often a good first step #but those second and third ones (naming it; describing its function) are vital (via @elucubrare)
Dont be very woried about me since i deserve all of this
The fact Pjackk is back disproves the theory it's the alt account of a trans woman
My dicks non orientable, its shaped like a klein bottle. I embed that shit in 4d pussy, don't worry bout the spray from the jet bundle on it. I hope you got a high genus cause I don't settle for some simple handlebody. My dynamics of a different type, im moving different. I'm not a CW complex, im built different. This shit aint nothing to me man.
it's pride month so a special shout out to the autistic and schizospec trans people of the world who repeatedly have our trans identity denied and devalued because of our neurotypes
would you mind talking a bit why you don't like your job? ive been thinking of going into that field but im not experienced in that kind of work
ofc! and just to be clear don't rlly let it discourage you because depending on where you live the work environment might be different, ours could just be weird but anyway
it doesn't pay well, especially for the amount of work we do
kind of a revolving door because people will join our team thinking its easy work then quit when they get overwhelmed
we're very short-staffed rn and its hard to get good people who aren't lazy
our parks aren't "staffed" because they have us on a roving model + we have 12 parks we take care of daily, so usually every park you go to on opening shift is trashed because people know we aren't there to stop them
across the parks we have 10 different shelters they rent out for large gatherings/events, during the spring/summer it isnt unusual for each one to have hundreds of people, so the trash builds up quick, which makes it heavy and hard to lift (especially if you have useless coworkers who don't check the trash)
bathrooms have to be cleaned and mopped daily and ofc you're dealing with people shitting on the floors and walls
if it snows (even if its your off day) you have to go in for mandatory 12 hour shifts to shovel snow at different locations, and usually they have us helping shovel schools + hospitals + fire stations, so we still have our own parks to shovel after that
most of our equipment is in bad shape but they refuse to replace it
most of the trucks we drive are way past inspection but they don't get turned in
lots of people problems + weird situations you have to deal with, i've been here since 2022 and patrons have threatened to physically harm me multiple times
in general you have to be out + able to drive in extreme weather conditions because we're considered essential workers, not just heat or cold or snow
i had to get vaccinated for rabies because some guys dog bit me when i was pulling trash in a dog park and he left before animal control got there
the constant physical labor breaks your body down over time, esp your back, i didn't used to have back issues but now i do
Think tanks explicitly founded to "abolish transgenderism" will publish a report that's like "there's no evidence that trans healthcare works if you ignore all the evidence" and be taken seriously, meanwhile actual researchers go "there's seriously NO evidence that gatekeeping helps" and get ignored
Like on the one hand there's new papers each year going "So it turns out that there's literally no fucking reason to restrict transition access based on these arbitrary criteria, and in fact, they were explicitly made up by some Danish fuck because he was personally obsessed with the idea that trans people were demons, and as it turns out the only measurable impacts of this policy are to increase risks to the patient" that have no impact on the healthcare systems they're criticizing whatsoever.
And then, on the other hand, you've got "Shockingly, this life-altering treatment that massively impacts how the patient is perceived by others in all facets of life is primarily supported by observational studies, as opposed to the enormous violations of bodily autonomy and human dignity necessary to perform a true randomized control trial. We recommend that treatment ceases immediately because you don't understand how evidence-based medicine works." And that becomes a linchpin of the politics of multiple European countries' trans healthcare politics for the next several years.
It's fucking clown world. Nobody who enabled this should be in a position of any power whatsoever.
MLK was a star trek fan
Ideally I'd make a post like "It is pride month! Yay! :D" ...But it is getting increasingly hard to exist as a trans person, let alone celebrate it.
We should still celebrate it. That celebration doesn't need to be loud. It doesn't need to be noticed by anyone except yourself.
They want us to feel shame at who we are. They want others to fear what we are. Pride in yourself is the antithesis of shame. So please, now more than ever, make sure you celebrate pride. Celebrate you.
You are worth celebrating. Happy pride.
