Is it a mental illness

If I desperately don’t want to be diagnosed in fear that I’m gonna use my mental illness as an excuse for my actions or do things in order to fill the title of “depression” or “anxiety” that was given to me.

I’ve done this before. Someone told me that I’m probably a sociopath and for months I acted like one, pushing down emotions and acting unnecessarily cruel in some cases. It doesn’t make sense, but when someone gives me a label I feel the need to live up to it.

So that in itself might be a mental illness, who knows? I most likely also have some form of depression and maybe even anxiety. Two different social workers in my school have told me I probably have depression and I should seek therapy but I just laugh it off because I know I will act differently once I’m diagnosed.

I don’t know what to do. Please help me.
