When it took like 5 minutes to kill Vecna, I thought the Mind Flayer was going to shift primary hosts to Will, but no, that would've been too interesting probably

what is taking me out is the duffers claiming no one predicted the ending but it was the most obvious ending in existence that has been the most talked about, like that could’ve been an email I fear.

It literally would’ve been so easy to include Vickie and her and Robin’s relationship in the epilogue. So easy. They could’ve just had her be at the graduation, or shown a clip of her and Robin off together somewhere, or they could’ve had someone ask Robin about Vickie during that scene on the roof. But no. They butchered the only slice of slightly nice queer representation left.

What’s even more f’d up for that gay bar scene is that other characters imagined futures had something to do with their personalities, but all Will’s had to do with his sexuality.

Yes, he should embrace that part of himself that he used to be ashamed of, but holy shit. Nothing to do with his art? His paintings?

That’s even worse. That’s what makes me angry. They genuinely watered him down to the “gay one” of the group there.

If you as a straight person think that you wrote a good queer story when actual queer people fucking hate it then I don't know what to fucking tell you anymore.

because that’s all queer characters get. self acceptance.

while everyone gets to have romance we get to accept that we’re not disgusting for being ourselves

the fact that the duffer brothers dragged out will's feelings for mike to the final season of their show that ended with, in my opinion, an unoriginal coming out scene instead of resolving it completely in s4 is bad writing. the fact that they used will's pain and unrequited love to help build up a mediocre straight relationship is bad writing. the fact that their other queer characters, robin and vickie, got together off screen and we barely got to know vickie as a character and see their relationship develop while most of the straight characters got to have their romances developed throughout the entirety of the show onscreen is bad writing. the fact that they'll most likely give will some random epilogue boyfriend we won't have any time to grow to care about, is bad writing.

if the only character arcs you can think to give your queer characters involve self-acceptance, coming out scenes, unrequited love with a straight best friend, and off screen romances but you cannot give them more nuance than that, it is bad writing. and if you cannot give your queer characters the amount of love, care, and attention as your straight ones, quite frankly, you should not be writing them in the first place.
