“TO BE HOPEFUL in bad times is not just foolishly romantic. It is based on the fact that human history is a history not only of cruelty, but also of compassion, sacrifice, courage, kindness. What we choose to emphasize in this complex history will determine our lives. If we see only the worst, it destroys our capacity to do something. If we remember those times and places—and there are so many—where people have behaved magnificently, this gives us the energy to act, and at least the possibility of sending this spinning top of a world in a different direction. And if we do act, in however small a way, we don’t have to wait for some grand utopian future. The future is an infinite succession of presents, and to live now as we think human beings should live, in defiance of all that is bad around us, is itself a marvelous victory.”
— Howard Zinn (via freckles-and-books)
hey, we’ll be ok
no matter where your life takes you, there will never be a day where there is no more good left to be done in the world.
and chances are, you will always be capable of making something or someone somewhere even a little bit better.
do not forget.
ever.
there is someone out there whose life would be changed by just watching you be yourself.
I couldn't find the original post so I redrew it from memory for myself and anyone who needs to hear this
Very important message for LGBTQIA+ Americans today:
We gonna get through the next 4 years out of spite if nothing else ❤️

Keep my anger from becoming meanness.
Keep my sorrow from collapsing into self-pity. Keep my heart soft enough to keep breaking.
Keep my anger
turned towards justice, not cruelty.
Remind me that all of this, every bit of it, is for love.
Keep me fiercely kind.

HUMAN REFORM POLITICS: a force for positive change
@wearepaladin
This year we're not doing weight loss resolutions. No new fad diets or miracle workout programs, no magic pills, and definitely no bariatric surgeries. This year we're listening to our bodies, and more importantly we're loving our bodies. We do not need to be smaller to be worthy of that.
Reuters article about it
Nah, you really gotta read the article. They're gonna force insurance companies to separate from the stupid mandatory specialty pharmacies that they own that they force anyone insured who needs a "specialty medication" to use. I used to be able to get my specialty medication at the regular fucking pharmacy, and so did everyone else before they started up this nonsense. They cost more, and I've never had one that didn't fuck me over every single year when I have to redo my prior authorization. Like I have to get every specialty prescription filled in advance, even if I don't necessarily need it right now, to have a stockpile of 2-3 months of medication in case they fuck it up again and I lose that buffer. Most people don't have that buffer. Caremark, Express Scripts, Optum, and there so many more. Call your fucking congressperson and tell them to support this legislation. PLEASE.
there’s no shame in admitting that none of us have any concept of how big a whale is
Once in the 3rd grade, we were learning about marine life. The material we were reading said that baby blue whales are around 50 feet long when they’re born. Our teacher stopped, realizing that a bunch of 8-9 year olds had no actual concept of how big that was, so she took us all out to the schoolyard with a tape measure. Now this tape measure only went up to 10 feet, so she had to mark off 5 total 10 foot increments. And when she was done, standing 50 feet away from us, she yelled back “And this is only a baby! Can you imagine how big adult blue whales are?” And let me tell you, the stunned, profound silence that came from this group of 12 normally chatty children still haunts me to this day. Every time I think about how big whales are, I remember that spring day in the 3rd grade.
Same effect for humans with this and “one billion dollars” so vast, basically incomprehensible
