Resurrecting some very old but still beloved All Might fanart from two of my previous blogs. The first one I did in 2018 and somebody actually got them tattooed on their ankles which is still so cool to me. I can't remember what their handle was, so if it was you and you see this, feel free to message me haha. The other two images I made in 2021 and posted on a blog called SneakyToffee which was very shortlived. I remember the vestige one really hitting everyone in the feels lol.

someone I follow on the bird app just announced they're starting a very exclusive private fic server because they and a bunch of other people want to talk about how much they love the fics they're reading, and as an author can I just say that a really great place to talk about a fic you love is in the comments for that fic
I understand that people are trying to create safe spaces, but as the number of comments that I get on my fics dwindles with each passing year, knowing these spaces exist where my fics are being discussed, places that I am excluded from, makes me want to write fic LESS
I mean I guess who cares, right, because if I stop writing, there's 10,000 other people that will continue...but if you participate in a fic "book club" server and you say nice things there about a fic you loved, maybe copy and paste that into a comment on AO3?
the only thing fanfic writers are asking for in return for hours of hard work is attention. please don't rob us of the one thing that we hope for when we hit "post"
this is directly related to this post I made about how fanfic authors now are treated like content mills, and not like valued members of a creative community who thrive on interaction. for the past decade, we've watched the fandom ecosystem disrupted over and over, as NSFW fan artists seek safety by putting their work behind paywalls, and self-conscious fic readers squirrel away their feelings in invite-only communities
an easy way to do your part to fight against the evils perpetrated by social media is to leave a comment on a fanfic you love
but don't take my word for it -- here are some responses that my fellow authors have left on this post:
The fact I had a fic that was fairly beloved and NO ONE commented on it because it was all being done in a fucking book club server made me want to scream.
I haven't updated that fic in two years now.
I cannot express enough how imperative it is to show the writer how much you love their work. The comments don't have to be novels themselves - even just an "I loved this so much!" Or keyboard smashing works wonders to keep the writer going. Please, we need to bring back supporting writers and artists now more than ever!!!

This probably took this person 3 seconds to do but it immediately told me that they liked my story enough to come back and read it again and they liked it again the second time.
Your favorite writers Do Not Know that you think about their stories after you read them. I generally assume that my stories make people happy for the few minutes they’re reading and then they never think about it again. To know that that’s not the case and that someone has returned just makes my little heart swell with joy.
I needed this today. If you’re the person who left this comment (or if you’ve ever commented on any of my writing) I love you.
Well this is the most popular post I’ve ever done by an order of magnitude…
The best part has been the people putting tags on their reblogs along the lines of “I’m totally going to do this now” and “I didn’t think authors would like something this simple but I can do this” and authors saying how much this type of comment also means to them.
The second best part was the person who went and read Worship because of this post and then commented on it.
An interesting part has been seeing what a kind of popular post does to your notifications.
I’m really glad this post took off, especially if it means a few more authors get this kind of comment.

Dude it is SO FUN and EXCITING to see a reoccurring reader. If you've commented a handful of times on an author's work, I guarantee that they recognize you. You can't imagine how many times I've excitedly informed my friends "the person with the funny cat image commented!" "- anon is back!!!!" and the friends've recognized who I was talking about because I talk about my commenters so often LOL. We love you all!!!
I am incredibly serious right now when I beg you all, please, and if you have Twitter or Tiktok or whatever to please spread the word: click on an author's profile on Ao3.
You want to know if an author has written more? Want to know if they're still writing? Want to see more from them? Want to know if they've written a trope or kink or sex scenario you enjoy?
Click on their name. And look at their profile.
I cannot tell you how many times in the last six months someone has read a new or newer fic of mine and said they (a new reader who has read nothing else I've done) "can't wait to see what you do next!" I've written 50+ fics and over a million words already.
"I don't know if you're still writing..." click on my profile. I am. I literally wrote a 128k+ fic for that ship last month.
"Would you ever do X?" "Please do Y!" I already did. Click on my name and look at my works.
Archive of our Own is a library. It's an archive. Not social media. It is your responsibility to fight back against the laziness that corporate algorithms have trained into you.
Click my author name. Just click it. Just click it.
Before you demand more, or ask if a writer will do XYZ, or wonder if the author still writing, or anything - click on their profile. Click on the author's profile.
I'm not trying to be mean or condescending or anything like that. I'm just exhausted. It's disheartening and frustrating to repeat myself ad nauseam, because someone couldn't take thirty seconds to do the tiniest bit of work to see if I've written lately, if I've written more for their ship, or scan my works to see if I've written what they're asking for. Please. Please. I'm begging.

Plus! Then you can subscribe to them and get a lovely email every time they post something! It's so much better than the tumblr system of tracking tags or tag lists! IMHO.
And another bonus: you can scope your fave authors bookmark list (if it’s public) and more likely than not your fave writers tastes are similar to yours so you get a goldmine of fic recs!

I love when people leave comments on my old stuff.
Its like passive income but it actually works to make me happy.
Honestly though, comments like that are gold to me. I love to write and a comment telling me that something I’ve done has improved someone’s life even in a small way? That’s impact. We live in societies that tell us over and over we have no value and nothing we do is ever good enough. So for someone to post a comment telling us that we improved their lives with our stories? That tells us our effort had value. We writers set out to improve the world in tiny ways, offering random acts of kindness in the form of a few minutes’ entertainment, and comments tell us we’ve achieved that little goal.
You can totally come back and leave a comment under that comment a year later! I’m glad to know you are still enjoying it and want to know if you’re doing okay.
There is no higher compliment than a re-read. The longer the time that has passed, the higher it is. It means a story resonated and stayed with someone.

Fanfic creators are like cows, some people think you can just milk them for content, but actually they need enrichment (comments) and a nice pasture to graze on (kudos/likes) and they secretly also like cuddles (asks about their fic/art)

All Might attending a hero convention as a guest. Sat at an autograph table that would usually have a queue around the building for him.
But times have changed, and generations have come and gone. A lot of the fans that would once be queuing to meet him are now gone, or busy with bills, families and kids. The younger generations attending the conventions more interested in the new heroes, the ones that sit in the top 10, and are on the new each day saving the world.
No one cares about All Might anymore.
Until he spots you— a pretty thing sheepishly walking towards his signing table. And he reckons you’re lost, thinks you’ve probably meant to approach someone else’s table. Until you lay a photograph of him out flat on the table.
“I’m a huge fan.”
And Toshinori can’t deny the way his cock jumps at the acknowledgement, listening to you rattle on about how much you love to watch his videos, your favourite moments and how amazing you think he is. The compliments send that familiar rush of blood through his veins as he feels his heart pulse roughly against his rib cage.
“Would you like to take a picture together?” And Toshinori is certain he won’t survive when he feels your breasts pressed against his side as he wraps an arm around your shoulders. The intoxicating scent of your perfume invading his senses as he fools himself into thinking for a moment he’d ever have a chance with you.
Until you’re now looking up at him with pouty lips and sultry eyes as you tell him something he never expected to hear, “You know I have the biggest crush on you.”
He'd be K.O'd for about 5 seconds, long enough for you to think you've messed up. Then he's turning the most adorable shade of red and stammering something about being flattered that such a lovely young thing still finds a washed up hero like him attractive. He signs your photo hastily, and then you're ushered out of the way to make room for a middle-aged man and his kids.
It isn't until later that you see a phone number written in tiny script under his flowery signature, along with two simple words:
"Call me?"
