the dream factory
Underneath the highways before the hollywood hills sits a movie theater known for its “creme de la creme”
Its not the stale popcorn or its recliner seats that give it its homey feel its the people within it, walking around, running the show that bring its corky, loving, charming appeal
They’re an interesting bunch you see Most of them are trying to make it big in the entertainment industry So they have loud mouths and boisterous gestures. They are filled with emotion that lies right on the surface for all to see. They are candor. They make their presence known. And they won’t hesitate to cry out when its time to go home
Upstairs you have anthony running it all Ryan trying to not miss a beat And Aika carrying the weight of their falls
In the cafe you have a secret society who have fled from the dark side You’ll see Chelsea or Daryl at the host stand Caleb or Jasmine serving drinks at the bar Adam serving orders and Gabe delivering the bills. Its an exclusive gig, not many get in But if you know a few it can be a sweet win.
Everyone else is on the dark side they call it. You’ll see Mark and Shayne with host sheets in hand serving the same script until its time to do it again. Round and round hosts go through 16 theaters to say whose the stars of the show.
At the end of the movie you’ll hear Morgan on the walkie shouting at porters for where to go. Yelling obscenities or throwing seats or taking thrash out of exit doors
On a lonely island might stand 1 of 2 mikes or Johanna or Katy serving Illy coffee and other tasty delights
On the floor you’ll have hosts and leads milling about Skyler at lobby, Genesis at concessions with Francisco and Juan calling people out Those and Erisse will stand behind box Checking ticket taker And see who can be caramel corn maker
To the disney lover group and the nerds at game night and to all the many Mikes There are so many personalities at the Sherman Oaks “Dream Factory.” You wouldn’t think such an eclectic group would get along But there is someone for anyone and one for all
I’ve seen many come I’ve seen more go Even I have gone myself But I’ve met more There are some I’ve shared only a summer with but wont ever forget Some stick around to hang even after they’ve left. Others have been in shirts of blue for years on end Because of the people Its a love that continues to filter in. There’s a solidarity in the suffering and laughs in the fails Its the same narrative but a continuous enjoyable tale.
Its hard to say goodbye to such a simple thing I wish I could contain it in a little chest of all the people and stories of old So I could never feel too far from the rest Because one your gone its just not quite the same And over time the people there will change. In the end It was never really about the job anyways, the infamous Dream Factory Its even when you leave, the friends you made will always be there to stay.
