today I found out my mother doesn’t know what dandelions are and now I’m wondering what other strange secrets she’s been quietly harboring

we have dandelions EVERYWHERE, they are basically our State Weed, it is absolutely impossible that my mom has never interacted with a dandelion before, this requires further investigation

So after extensive interrogation I have an update:

my mom is in fact aware that dandelions exist. she temporarily forgot the name and there was some miscommunication.

the truth is actually weirder

she’s aware dandelions look like this

she is familiar with this flower. she knows the name of this flower. she declines to believe, however, that these are also dandelions

she does not believe these are the same plant. I tried to explain, and she thought I was either misinformed or lying. so I asked her what exactly did she think the yellow ones were called?

she answered, with complete confidence: Daffodils.

Thinking about a The Brokenwood Mysteries Supernatural AU again...

-DS Kristin Sims is descended from a line of powerful witches but has chosen to abandon the magical in favor of a 'normal life' as a police detective

-DC Daniel Chalmers has a secret no on can find out, but (in)conveniently is always unavailable at the full moon

-the circumstances surrounding a recent series of murders are strange... even by Brokenwood standards...

-Former-DC Sam Breen returns to Brokenwood drawn in by the bizarre series of murders and his new career as a paranormal investigator. He "had an experience - please don't ask" because he's not going to tell. Unless you buy him a few pints.

-DSS Mike Shepherd has always held conversations with the recently deceased... But are they as rhetorical as everyone always assumed? Or could they provide the clues they need to solve the murders?

-Gina Kadinsky is up to something weird... even for her... Are there unclaimed body parts in the morgue? And why has she been spotted in the cemetery in the middle of the night?

-Are the murderers specifically targeting supernatural creatures and people with magic? What's their motive? Will Kristin have to unearth her past and abilities to solve this case?

-When Sam Breen and Daniel Chalmers go missing, is it related to the other disappearances and murders? Has Daniel's secret endangered them both?

-Does Kristin have enough magic to defeat the culprits and save the day? Or will she need to find others in the small community with power to form a coven, something she swore she'd never do...

(I keep circling back to this universe, but it would be utterly epic to write and who has the time...)
