“I love my monsterbait wife.”
“you just said that to flex” yeah obviously
Context?
person: what’s the difference between photographic and eidetic memory?
me: eidetic is being able to vividly recall pictures, places, people, etc from memory. it’s like having an extremely well-rendered inner eye. photographic is being able to remember strings of information, like numbers, graphs, tables, scenes from characters, pages of a book, etc. but it’s not in vivid detail, it’s more factual that visual (and it can include structure in addition to context, like where on the page that line was written). for example, i have a photographic memory, which is why i can recite 170 digits of pi.
person: you just said that to flex
me: yeah obviously
what, did you think i was gonna memorize that many digits of pi and just keep it to myself?
also
person: hey can you translate this for me?
me: yeah, i got my state’s seal of biliteracy for spanish, so i’m technically fluent
person: you just said that to flex
me: yeah obviously
i worked hard to get that after studying the language for 5 years, of course i’m gonna bring it up
normalize taking pride in your accomplishments
yes! i told a guy one time that not only do i like doing math, i’m good at it so i’m pursuing it in uni and he looked at me like i just stepped on his foot and didn’t apologize. i think we as a society in general are expected to not take pride in our accomplishments, to not feel good or proud of what we’re good at, and to keep it to ourselves so as to avoid making anyone else feel bad, and to hold others to this same expectation. but it’s ridiculous! if you’re good at something or you’ve accomplished something you worked hard for, tell people! wear that pride like a badge of honor. it shouldn’t make anyone else feel bad for not accomplishing that because we’re not all going to be amazing at the same thing, and that’s fine. it’s actually great that we’re so diverse. and if it does make someone feel bad, well, jealousy is a tough emotion to overcome, but it’s not your job to console that person over something that made you happy and proud, and you definitely shouldn’t take it to mean never sharing your accomplishments aloud again. be proud of what you can do and what you’ve accomplished. it’s a major factor in self-esteem and general well-being. it also lets us understand ourselves and each other better. so yeah, flex.
this scene is so fucking funny the english dub of this show is so good
loud warning

One of my favorite tricks for designing alien species/cultures is to take a real animal with an interesting lifecycle and think about what that biology would translate to if they had human intelligence
Example: silk moths as a base species
Because the moths themselves don’t eat and only live long enough to mate and then starve to death, the entire culture is made up of children and adolescents. The older children raise the younger ones, with families being made up of hatchmates from different years.
Because molts and eventual transformation into a short lived adult happen on a set schedule, families have a cycle— when your oldest set of siblings cocoon to become adults, you wait at the mating grounds and try to adopt their newborns after they pass. If that fails, you take any ‘orphans’ you can find.
Because death and birth are nearly simultaneous, they have a religion based around reincarnation, and infants with markings similar to a parent are often given their name. Claiming the offspring of a beloved family member is vitally important, because you want to be able to protect their soul and keep them close.
Because it’s hard to track the offspring of your male family members, there are sometimes major fights when a family sees an infant with familiar markings in another family’s clutch.
Between mating seasons, their culture is extremely food-oriented, because everyone is growing and silkworms eat nigh constantly. They spend most of their lives outdoors but sleep and shelter from bad weather in large family dwellings made from wood and the remains of the silk cocoons of prior generations.
everyone is really vibing with the silkworm aliens I see
i was a blur flinching at the word “lesbian” spat from my mothers mouth,
10 years and a gender affirming surgery later i found my womanhood on your lips
the origins of the “what are you two FUCKING talking about??” meme is almost funnier then the meme itself
This is about Sci-Hub. yeah we get it.. gatekeep knowledge and protect the interests of capital…
Listen, this is serious.
Do not use the website called Sci-Hub!
It lets people access scientific articles for free. This is dangerous. It helps the free flow of knowledge and reduces the competitive edge of all the people who worked really hard to have been born into a wealth.
Like, it’s literally a website where you can type in the DOI of an article and read it, without ever having to pay the publisher who exploited the author.
So, again, do not, under any circumstance, use Sci-Hub. I mean, can you imagine a world where knowledge is free and easily accessible to everyone? Even, y'know, poor people?
Libgen also has many books online, including textbooks, searchable by name, author, and ISBN. Can you imagine textbook companies not getting their hard-earned income from poor college students? Here is the link just so you make sure that you never accidentally stumble across this horrible, unethical website.
Oh, and while we’re talking about books, if you’ve managed to stay clear from Libgen, definitely don’t go to zlibrary, where you can also find a lot of textbooks, but unfortunately they’re completely free.
Reblogging so you know which sites to totally avoid
we all ignore the pit
all cyberpunk stories are like “If you wanna crack open a cybercroissant this nasty, you’re gonna need a real top notch e-driller. i know a guy- Toledo Killswitch- he’s got the frag ordinance you need to grizzle this bocce ball.”
i don’t normally like to add onto posts but i thought this thread was pretty insightful (link)
(via Jovishark)
Whatever you think of the music Imagine Dragons are exmormon and the lead singer is a huge donor to LGBT groups in Utah. His like sole political cause is like fighting the astronomically high lgbt youth suicide here in Utah. I fucking hate this webbed site
yeah, this tweet thread fucking sucks.
1. i don’t like Imagine Dragons’ music and i think it is arguable that much of it’s a commercial product, but their members are, as stated above, more or less ex-Mormon.
the lead singer, Dan Reynolds, has discussed his active struggle with his faith and the cult of Mormonism. leaving a cult--especially one that practices shunning--is extremely difficult and can take years. and yet, despite this, he’s made it his mission to help combat issues affecting the LGBT+ community, including conversion therapy, LGBT+ youth suicide, and LGBT+ homelessness.
he has been a consistent and active ally to the point that he has an annual music festival called Loveloud that is dedicated to raising awareness about LGBT+ issues, featuring and promoting LGBT+ artists, and raising money for several charities. he has also donated his own money to LGBT+ organizations and gave his $1 million childhood home to Encircle, an LGBT+ advocacy group in Utah.
the guitarist, Wayne Sermon, has also given talks at conferences dedicated to assisting Mormons in leaving the cult and healing from their trauma.
2. the Lumineers have a history of holding shows solely so they can donate all profits to various charities and causes, including Planned Parenthood in Texas after Republican efforts to defund PP, Dakota Access Pipeline protestors, and LGBT+ charities in North Carolina following the passing of anti-LGBT+ legislation. a lot of their music that doesn’t make it to the radio focuses on issues like poverty, the working class, addiction, and trauma.
3. Marcus Mumford has explicitly stated that he doesn’t actually identify as a Christian, despite using Christian imagery in some of his songs. a person’s parents being Evangelical conservatives should not be an indictment on them. he and the other band members also kicked out their guitarist when he started spewing alt-right talking points and supporting Andy Ngo. i’m still not totally sure i trust his politics--he strikes me as pretty centrist--but good lord, he’s not an Evangelical.
do y’all not realize that you’re allowed to dislike music for purely surface level reasons? like that it doesn’t have to be that it’s made by terrible people--you can just seriously not like how it sounds?
making up bullshit theories where you falsely charge people--especially people actively fighting for progress--with being part of some kind of conservative religious extremist conspiracy theory to justify “i don’t like how they sound” is fucking awful and appalling. go outside.
what’s the pink they put in pink lemonade that makes it so poppin
that’s pussy babe!
now THIS is a world heritage post
my favorite character type is a character that is gay but they have no romantic chemistry with anyone because of how fucking insane they are
i reject the idea that the only 2 stances to take on ghosts existing are "believer" and "skeptic"
