remember "q slur" discourse?
17 year olds deep in high school conformist herd mentality saying "i don't want to be represented by a word that means weird" like come on don't you see that it's cool to be weird? epic to be strange? sexy as hell to be fucked up and perhaps even a little bizarre? feel how affirming it can be to claim that for yourself, to embrace what makes you peculiar in other people's eyes and say "yeah, so? i am what i am and you will accept it"
y'all have absolutely no empathy for the generations of gay people up to still to this day who were and are out here getting harassed and the shit beat out of them and straight up murdered for being queer huh, like next time instead of calling me a conformist for not wanting to be called something my dad used to beat my ass with or was bullied in school with and not just for being "lol quirky weird" just say you're sheltered. it isn't queer as in weird it's queer as in you're subhuman and you deserve to be treated as such you fucking moron, not all of us get the luxury or being "weird" freely.
reclamation is only as impactful as the word has impacted you and given the way you seem to believe everyone who is called a slur is only receiving that because they're "peculiar" and not because they're seen as subhuman for their gender or sexuality, something tells me you're reclaiming a word you think is funny and silly and not reclaiming your right to exist as a human being free from harassment
i have known 17 year olds in the last few years still getting called "fucking q***r" by peers on the bus and in school and were lucky if that wasn't followed up with physical harassment. absolutely goddamn callous to pretend they're just uneducated dweebs who don't want to be ~weird~. "remember q slur discourse" there's only discourse because you jackasses have no sense of basic respect or compassion for people other than yourselves.
what really gets me about this is that….the people who really really want to call me a queer against my will? they have to lie to support their beliefs.
OP very intentionally misrepresents the reason people don’t want to be called a violent slur and claims we ~just don’t want people to think we’re weird~ when they are clearly familiar enough with the conversation to know that people typically don’t want to be called queer because they’re traumatized.
it’s the same as people claiming that “not wanting to be called queer” is a vast secret TERF conspiracy.
because if they say the truth out loud, they sound really, really fucking bad.
so they lie. and they do it on purpose.
if you find you have to lie to make yourselves not sound horrible, maybe it’s time to reevaluate your perspective.
“I’m tired of fat hairy butch women being the image of lesbianism!” “I want this gay character to be asexual because I’m tired of seeing sex everywhere!” “Don’t hint to your sex life at Pride, think of the children!” “Ugh why are there only GAY CLUBS I don’t want to go somewhere where there’s people ALL OVER EACH OTHER Less bars more cafes!” Do you know what you sound like. Like do you know what you sound like. Take a moment to think about what you sound like
Also what’s really funny about “panphobia” is that pansexuals are coddled.
No, genuinely, they are coddled in a way absolutely no one else is.
You make a post criticizing the pan label, how it’s biphobic, transphobic, often homophobic, and how the creator of the flag is a lesbophobe, and all you get is “no panphobia!” “Pansexuals are valid!” “Pansexuals aren’t hurting anyone!” Because somehow pansexual feelings are more important than a label that has harmed the community as a whole.
I mean, for fuck’s sake, I saw a post about US IMPERIALISM get derailed because “op is a panphobe.” I’ve seen posts about how to spot actual terf dogwhistles and how to actually support trans women get derailed because “op is a panphobe.” Because how dare pansexual feelings not be the first priority and given utmost consideration.
It is fucking insane, because absolutely no one else gets this treatment. Everyone can say whatever horrific shit about lesbians and bisexuals and trans people (especially trans women) they want (“bisexuals and lesbians are dumb and transphobic and I am smarter and more woke because I would be willing to date a trans person”), but how DARE they criticize the pan label and say that pansexuals are not valid.
Some interesting stats from a survey taken from this article:
This is what they had to say
This is what Bisexuals mean by Pansexuality perpetrated harmful stereotypes that affect us IRL & how we’re seen in the community. I found this on Twitter and had to share.
Thank you for effortlessly proving the aforementioned point
“lesbians have monosexual privilege because no one questions their sexuality or accuses them of faking it for attention” well have i got some bad news for you, honey
STOP KILLING US
For anyone who felt uncomfortable reblogging this because your identity wasn’t included. ^_^
when have aro ace people ever been killed for their orientation you fucking moron
this was the most insenstive fucking thing i’ve ever seen i can’t even begin
for anyone who was sad that they aren’t included in literally getting murdered uwu!!!
AAAAAAAAAAA
I still can’t believe how the ace community stole the a-spec from autistic people (it makes no sense for asexuality to be a spectrum, come on) and coined “allosexual” as a clear copy/paste of the term “allistic”. Live and let live, but asexuals should really stop trying to c&p things from other communities and try to make it their own. You don’t get to cry and be the victim for doing awful shit and being an asshole.
They also stole black rings from gay people protesting marriage inequality, turned a well known example of casual homophobia (the phrase "no homo") into the haha quirky joke phrase "no romo", copy common LGBT jokes but make them unfunny, tried to copy butch and femme with "cupcake and dragon" labels, co-opted the lesbian term stone, literally MADE UP THEIR OWN STEREOTYPES BECAUSE THEY'RE NOT OPPRESSED AND DIDN'T GET STEREOTYPES FORCED ON THEM, and co-opted the q slur (which can only be reclaimed by lesbians, gay men, bi people, and trans people). Their entire community is built on shit like this
bro if i have to see one more person defending the idea of bi/pan lesbians im gonna start throwing things
i swear to god
just gets worse huh
Y'all one need to understand that this is specifically started with terfs and was (unsurprisingly) picked up by the ace community. “Bi lesbians” are lesbians that are willing to date and marry trans women. If we’re gonna bring this up every 2 days we need to bring up the transmisogynistic origins of the phrase. Be annoyed as a bi woman/lesbian, but understand that this is an attack on trans women specifically.

lol WHY ARE SOME PANSEXUALS LIKE THIS. I’m sorry but bisexuals had used the word bisexual to refer to attraction beyond the gender binary for decades before you were born. Learn your history fer cryin oot lood!
I’m not gonna go into how this is also offensive to nonbinary people like myself, but y’all are free to peruse my blog for that.
telling bisexuals we’re “actually gay” is biphobic
telling bisexuals we’re “actually straight” is biphobic
telling bisexuals we’re “actually pan” is biphobic and i am increasingly convinced that pansexuality is just the newest strategy of trying to erase bisexuality out of existance by rebranding it as “more woke” pansexuality
alright y'all I'm dark red/purple and I respect everyone from orange to black, they're all my buddies
(with this post I'm not trying to put anyone over anyone, I'm just putting into words what I've been seeing in these months that I'm on Tumblr. I wish I didn't have to, but you guys are mean)
why is straight the only sexuality where you apparently have to feel both romantic and sexual attraction to qualify as
inclus: bi aces are valid! gay aros are valid! ace lesbians are valid! aro pansexuals are valid!
inclus, two seconds later: actually it's heteroromantic AND heterosexual how dare you call aces straight don't you know that in order to be straight you have to experience heterosexual and heteroromantic and heteroplatonic and heteroaesthetic and
inclusionists that combine aphobia with biphobia and transphobia are 100% doing that delibrately because they know aphobia does not never has and never will carry the same weight as biphobia and transphobia and because it's easier to pit the LG's and BT's against each other to make your opinion look Valid than it is to have an actual grounded opinion
It's also way easier to make a post including incredibly pervasive issues so you can argue the person is being transphobic too when they say "Hold up this post isn't accurate"
Mogai genders: for the most part cool and fine, do what you want idc
Mogai sexualities: *cocks gun* drop the Latin dictionary and no one gets hurt
The Cultural Impact of Pansexuality
Ola from Sex Education
David from Schitt’s Creek
Ali from Big Mouth
Three different shows, three different ways of describing pansexuality. What do they all have in common? The assertion they are attracted to trans people. More than that, it’s the assertion that pansexuality is defined as a sexuality through attraction to trans and nb people. While some people might protest that this is an inaccurate representation of pansexuality, it is very much in line with it’s slogan: hearts not parts. This also has the additional implication that other sexualities are not inclusive of trans and nonbinary people or care more about genitals, which enables transphobes to define what it means to be gay, lesbian, or bisexual. Gay, lesbian, and bi people can and do have trans and nb partners and in fact are often trans/nb themselves.
Pansexuality going mainstream has revealed a lot of its fundamental flaws and it’s time to wonder if it’s time to break up with it entirely.
Ok hold up. Good evidence, WILDLY WRONG answer to the problem.
We CAN'T take someones identiy away because it has some misinformation and misinterpretations when it JUST starts coming into mainstream.
The only response to stuff like this is to educate people with ACCURATE information FROM pan people and get more accurate pan rep by pan people.
Except that this isn’t inaccurate representation. It’s 100% accurate to how pan started and how it is maintained.
The definition above is from 2003 and as we can see it’s not really any different than how pan is used now. Any thorough examination of pan history will reveal it started as a trans-inclusive alternative to bisexual, which doesn’t really solve transphobia in the bi community and really turns the transphobia issue from exclusion to fetishization.
Any alternative definition that people come up with for pan that isn’t based on trans/nb inclusion relies on a massive amount of assumptions about how other people experiences sexuality and/or is so similar to bi that the difference isn’t meaningful and relies on erasing bisexual history.
Attracted to personality not appearance? How do you think anyone else chooses their partners? Hair color? This also ends up reinforcing the perception that bi people are bi because they’ll fuck “anything that moves.”
No preference for gender? How is that meaningfully different to bi? Why assume bi people have a gender preference? Some bi people do but many don’t.
Asking people to stop using an identity that is fundamentally based in transphobia and biphobia is not harming them. In fact, it’s opening them up to learning more about the wonderful history of bisexuality and bi activism and unlearning internalized biphobia.

TRY ME, EXCLUSIONISTS. I DARE YOU.
settle down, you're not an anime protagonist
remember when y'all forced lesbians to stop using the only lesbian flag that had gained traction because the creator (who had become so utterly divorced from her flag that most people don't even know about her) was a bad person? remember when you called it the TERF lesbian flag? remember when you people tried to justify being afraid of lesbian flag profile pics?
meanwhile y'all out here using literal holocaust symbols in your pride flags and the ace pride flag creator is a rampant homophobe who openly bragged about spelling out f*g in the acronym of his school's GSA. but okay lmao go give your little anime speech about how you'll never bow and never be defeated
