i don't have the time to write a proper post about this, but questioning the electoral system is one of Bolsonaro's main banners. Other than this, there are no fraud cases or any evidence of fraudulent elections in Brasil and there hasn't been since the end of the dictatorship - quite the contrary and this is not up to discussion.

trump (and the us of a) is doing his best to get the far right back in power in Brasil, plain and simple for everyone to see. with this he aims to back the far right's claim that the elections are invalid and make path for a coup (like bolsonaro tried in 2023 and is jail for!!!!) should Lula win the election, and he is leading polls as of now (elections are in october). fuuuck

There are layers to this. Earlier in the episode, Xena discovers her secret while they're sharing a locker room. A woman she has got naked with turned out to be trans. It's the exact scenario terfs are always fear-mongering about, but Xena just shrugs it off.

Also, the kiss was a big deal not just because it was gay but because the trans actress was HIV positive. They wanted to show the world that you can't contract HIV just from kissing someone. Bear in mind, the AIDS crisis was still fresh on people's minds in the 90s.

I love asking people how their parents met. You always get an interesting reply. My best friend’s parents met on the relatively new internet in 1999. My other friend’s parents met at Burger King when one was the manager and the other was a regular customer.
