Finally finished my wool skirt! I started this project in March last year. It's been one of those that's been laying around, only needing finishing touches. At last, the other day, I finished it!
Also the moos boi helped me product test it when I wore it for the first time today. 10/10 he says. Would recommend.
My latest project: a mushroom grove! More specifically, a grove of Cortinarius Violaceus, or Violet Cort.
This was a birthday present for my friend, and I'm so glad with how it turned out!
I used a few different patterns for this, including one from Butterick’s 1892 The Art of Knitting for the lace edging. All the yarn is Knitpicks' Palette, fingering weight, the pot I got at my local nursery, and the stuffing, polystyrene sphere (cut in half to fill the pot), and pins (to anchor the shroomies to the polystyrene) are from Joann's. Links below
yaaass please post a pic when you can i love seeing the things you make with yarn!!! i’m a new crocheter and seeing the last piece you posted was such inspo🥺 so determined to have that skill !!
😗✌🏽
Behold my Fall themed Granny-square Cardigan~ 🧡❤️💛🤎
Worsted: Nothing to see here. This is the archetype of yarniness and I am the archetype of knitting. Stable. Secure. Can pass off hobby as casual if need be.
Bulky: I am a WIZARD and I am making VAST amounts of cloth appear by MAGIC. You get a hat! And you get a hat! Everybody gets a hat! Also my scarf is now 18 ft long but that’s just…you know. For fun.
Baby/Sport: I am making littol things. Every stitch represents tender love. Yes I did listen only to horror podcasts while making this but what does that matter? There’s a lace flower but a baby’s existence is all about showing off what you can make, just because I’m not a parent doesn’t mean I can’t be part of that.
Sock/Fingering: Completely unhinged. Every project is the building of an obsession-washed edifice, that will never, ever, ever be done. Time ceases to exist. Worse podcasts must be found, worse movies must be found, because the most important parts of the brain must serve THE PATTERN.
I love any pattern that challenges me to learn and master a new knitting skill. Of course, I love a quick and easy pattern too, but there's something so much more satisfying about the sense of accomplishment I get when I learn how to do something ✨hard✨
Pattern for piece pictured here is the Big Herringbone Cowl by Purl Soho, yarn is Plymouth Yarn Worsted Merino Superwash in Spring Green.
people on tumblr tend to be pretty good about the whole “you should pay artists thing” but i just want to put out there: that includes fibre artists
i can’t count the number of times i’ve been knitting or embroidering something and someone is like “oh can you make me one?” and then they get offended when i tell them they’d have to pay me.
real talk: nice yarn/wool is expensive. sewing machines are expensive. for every handmade skirt or stuffed animal you see online there are at least a half-dozen prototypes in the creator’s closet that can’t be sold.
and that’s not even getting into the time spent on these projects. i have some things i’ve probably spent in excess of 100 hours on. i can’t even fathom making a living wage knitting stuff, because nobody would ever pay that much.
tl:dr; fibre artists deserve to be paid for their time and skill just like visual artists and if you can “buy something just like that at walmart for $5″ please just do that and stop wasting our time
