jackal / riley | 28 | ♐︎ | he/him | 🏳️🌈 🏳️⚧️ artist and fish enthusiast | wisconsin, usa 𓆟 personal blog 𓆟 largely a queued account with occasional active posting
I’m a digital (and less frequently traditional) artist from the USA, and I’ve been on this site for over 10 years now. I talk a lot in the tags. I love fantasy and art and poetry and nature.
If you message me and I don’t respond, please don’t take it personally! Decent mental health comes and goes, so there are times when I am very social and times when I am completely withdrawn, so it becomes very difficult to communicate consistently as a result. At the worst points, I go through periods of isolation and will abandon social media entirely for weeks. I use an untagged queue function, so it may not be obvious if I’m offline. Sorry in advance for any trouble and thanks for your understanding 💚

FULL INFO ABOUT MY TAGGING SYSTEM BELOW THE CUT
PERSONAL TAGS:
I frequently reblog posts about grief and death and bones and graves under #death tag, and I also post about love and community under #love tag. I also have a newly established #hope tag, but it’s less frequently used.
TRIGGER TAGS:
I tag triggers in the #trigger format (ie #bugs #blood #suicide #animal death). I try to tag most common triggers, but apologize in advance if I miss a post here or there. If you have a specific trigger you’d like me to tag or watch out for, please message my askbox. I also occasionally tag #nudity but I do not tag things #NSFW as that is too vague a term in my opinion.
OTHER:
Guilt-tripping posts and “reblog this and you will have good luck” posts are hostile to people suffering from OCD, so I avoid reblogging them. If you see one, assume I failed to resist the compulsion lol. I will reblog donation posts occasionally, but because I’m sure everyone on Tumblr follows well over a hundred blogs at least, I won’t reblog every donation post that crosses my dash as I don’t want to flood my followers with more GFMs than they can keep up with. Please do not message me with a request to reblog your fundraiser.
Other than triggers and the specific personal tags mentioned above, I also occasionally will tag specific media for my own reference. It’s rare that I do this though, so it would not be effective to use my media tags to filter that content out if you don’t want to see it. If needed, feel free to send me a message to ask me to tag certain media, but I might not be able to consistently tag it, so if you are really uncomfortable with something I’m blogging about a lot, you might be better off unfollowing for your own comfort. I ultimately believe in the concept of cultivating your own online experience, so if I am not a comfortable part of that experience, no hard feelings! 💚
whoever tells u different brushes won't fix ur drawing is fucking lying. sometimes (many times) it really is your instrument and if u feel like it is then go find yourself something nicer to work with..... mwah and good luck
here's a gif of Spore Kevin doing the only dance that looks decent for him, and a gif of him shaking vigorously, just for fun. It was made from his walk cycle.
TUMBLR ADS ARE NOT SUPPOSED TO AUTO-PLAY AUDIO! THAT IS A BUG AND YOU SHOULD REPORT IT!
"This ad is auto-playing audio" is literally on the drop down menu for reporting an ad. Tumblr isn't trying to implement this! Don't protest this "new policy", cause it's not one.
They are not supposed to automatically redirect you without you clicking them, they are not supposed to cause a pop-up, they are not supposed to freeze your screen.
This is all bugs or malicious advertising which is also against tumblers ad policy. You should report all ads which do this.
Let’s get rid of those horrible monopoly ads, together.
My hope for whoever is reading this is that your life starts making sense and coming together. I hope the good days are right around the corner for you.
truly some people have no genre savviness whatsoever. A girl came back from the dead the other day and fresh out of the grave she laughed and laughed and lay down on the grass nearby to watch the sky, dirt still under her nails. I asked her if she’s sad about anything and she asked me why she should be. I asked her if she’s perhaps worried she’s a shadow of who she used to be and she said that if she is a shadow she is a joyous one, and anyway whoever she was she is her, now, and that’s enough. I inquired about revenge, about unfinished business, about what had filled her with the incessant need to claw her way out from beneath but she just said she’s here to live. I told her about ghosts, about zombies, tried to explain to her how her options lie between horror and tragedy but she just said if those are the stories meant for her then she’ll make another one. I said “isn’t it terribly lonely how in your triumph over death nobody was here to greet you?” and she just looked at me funny and said “what do you mean? The whole world was here, waiting”. Some people, I tell you.
the way teenagers are treated these days is wild. when i was a teenager we were all watching porn, jerking off, and going to horror movies with 3000 gallons of blood. Nowadays they make kids get a permission slip to watch anything darker than Barney the Dinosaur. Insane.
& then for some reason people fixate more on "ugh these teenagers just want to be treated like babies!!! teenagers are to blame for the rise in puritanism!!!!!" than how this is a very obvious example of ageism and the increased control over a socially vulnerable and exploited group
I think a commonly overlooked part of this coddling is that it teaches kids and teenagers to be afraid of things they don't need to be afraid of, which is exactly how they end up as "puriteens". I remember as a child being terrified to change the channel on the tv because I had ended up with the impression that seeing even seconds of an R rated movie or tv show would give me nightmares. And then as a tween every time I saw swearing I felt sick to my stomach because I had been taught such a thing is bad and harmful. I think I would have suffered less if I hadn't been raised with everyone around me acting like mature media was so bad. By the time I was a teenager I had figured out this was bunk, but understandably a lot of people don't. By making this whole system worse and stronger you have teens who have been told that seeing explicit or dark media Will Harm Them, and so they act in ways that would be appropriate if it really was the info-hazard it's implied to be.
^^ never heard anybody specifically talk about this but yeah. parents acting like sexual or any "dark" content in a story or show was going to put bad things in my head that were going to be there permanently just gave me a deeply distressing sort of contamination anxiety
