The yellow tang market feels like one of those train dilemmas straight up

The yellow tang is a Hawaiian fish that was chronically overfished due to popularity in the aquarium hobby. To resolve this, hawaii places a complete ban on the export of tangs until sustainable practices could be achieved.

In this market void of a very popular fish, BIOTA group and ORA sprang up to breed captive populations of popular aquarium fish to take pressure off reef poaching and overfished species.

NOW. Flashforward to 2025. Hawaii has made their own captive fish farming facilities, and outlined sustainable practices of wild caught fish from their native waters. They seek to reopen trade of ornamental fish. BIOTA however sees this as a threat to their cornered market, and is doing everything in their power to keep the export ban in place, on grounds that poached fish will slip through the cracks if any export is legalized.

So we have a bizarre ethical dilemma. On one hand, the ban being closed allowed hawaiian reefs to recover, and reopening trade WILL lead to exploitation of the reefs again, just less so than before. On the other, this is an american company demanding complete sovereignty over hawaiian wildlife and trying to undermine competition from the nation that SHOULD have the final say in what happens to their reefs.

And this is all happening because this yellow fuck

This isn't a new phenomenon in the slightest, it just has the face of a lil yellow fish this time around.

When a big game hunter decides to go to africa and drop enough cash to rival the municipal budget of a small town so he can shoot a lion, and the local authorities eyeball the big impressive looking old male, who has fathered so many cubs that he's beginning to cause inbreeding problems in the local population, thinking about how a high caliber bullet will be a much gentler end than death by starvation and parasite overload when he gets too old to hunt, or having his guts ripped out by a younger stronger lion trying to take his place, there will be a local level ecological management decision made.

At which point the internet activists will yeet their noble savage racism and swap it out for the plain old racism racism. Because how could these uneducated """locals"""" ever possibly know enough not to exploit their own home.

I also think that the strength gap is at least partially manufactured women would in fact be stronger overall if little girls were encouraged to do physically taxing games and activities and eat their fill while they’re growing vs having to constantly diet and be sedentary indoors (or god forbid do intense cardio while under-eating). The amount of adult women honestly afraid to lift weights bc they think they’ll get bulky as though bulking isn’t a full time job that athletes have to spend all their time on and anyone on earth gets shredded from just using their adult muscles for their intended purpose, girl your bone density 🥀

if you say women are intentionally nerfed from birth in 2026 people look at you like you’re insane and start condescendingly telling you about how women are just better at different things (but not during their periods haha) but this was a completely basic feminist talking point I grew up with like “girls can do it too! [shot of little girls climbing and running with boys]” nickelodeon commercial tier base level I hate it how is everyone suddenly dumber than the average 7 year old

from someone whose parents did not enforce weird feminizing standards on me ("tomboy" was not spoken fondly by critics of their methods, but rather scathingly), let me tell you: nobody likes it when girls are stronger than boys. They will accept that some boys are stronger than some other boys. And some girls are stronger than some other girls. But whew, you better not cross those streams. And that grade-school level Nickelodeon feminism is just too much for them to handle.
