if you are a parent, or may become one, or you are otherwise likely to arrive in the situation of caring for a child while they eat, promise me this: if a child doesn't like a certain food or food group, you will ask them WHY. and specifically, you will pay attention to either confirming or ruling out "it makes my mouth itch" or "it makes my stomach hurt," both of which are medically important info that children may not provide unprompted. which i know because this PSA has been brought to you by "i spent my entire childhood and much of my early teens eating peas and lentils while wondering why everyone else liked the Violently Itchy Mouth Sensation so much, like were they a bunch of legume masochists or something, before i finally realized that Violently Itchy Mouth Sensation was in fact a sinister demon appearing only to me, and her true demonic name was: Legume Allergy"
Do not let your child suffer from spicy bananas!
Went to an Oedipus Rex adaption today and my friends were debating whether the Oedipus/Jocasta age gap was problematic. Like guysâŠI think their relationship has bigger issues
Jonathan Joss was an Indigenous, gay man who was murdered on the first day of Pride month as well as Indigenous History Month. He died protecting his trans husband. Homophobia and racism arenât marks of the past, and this is a heart breaking reminder of that.
Praying for a safe journey back to the spirit world, Uncle â€ïžâđ©čđŠ
Today is the anniversary of the death of Jonathan Joss (King of the Hill, Parks and Rec). Jonathan Joss was an Indigenous, gay man who died protecting his transgender husband, on the first day of Pride month. Today we remember him and how he protected his family.
(Jewish) Pride Month Day 3: Ezra Furman
Ezra Furman is an American indie rock musician, singer and songwriter. She has released 7 solo albums, 3 solo EPs, 3 albums with her previous band, Ezra Furman and the Harpoons, and has worked on the soundtrack for the Netflix show "Sex Education". They are Jewish, bisexual, and a trans woman. Their queer and Jewish identities are central to their work. She was previously enrolled in rabbinical school but dropped out and stated she had decided to lead and empower Jewish people through art instead. Their unapologetic expression of queerness and Jewishness has made them an icon to queer Jews in the indie/alt rock scene.
*Furman uses both she/her and they/them pronouns. She also goes by Liz but has continued to use Ezra as her professional name.

Okay I feel like maybe you don't like me even at all.
just saw a 'comments' tab on someones blog you know where the following and likes tabs would be if enabled and it was just showing all the replies theyve made on peoples posts. this is fascinating when did this feature come out
EMERGENCY - ITS AUTO ENABLED!
if you've made replies on posts there is now a tab on your blog showing every post youve replied to and your reply.
if this is not what you want, either go to your blog and click comments and disable it from there or just go to your individual blogs setting pages. just change it from blue to grey if you dont want everyone to see your replies AND the post you're replying to
PLEASE BE ADVISED that it is set to disabled for blogs that have not made any replies but it will turn ON if you reply with that blog in the future.! i just tested it with my main, which was greyed out but it turned on the moment i left a test reply
figured i'd get the word out bc i have not seen a single mention of this and i'm sure there are plenty of people who maybe comment on things they don't want on display for everyone to see on their blog lol. you can still look at your replies with it toggled off just no one else can, like locking the following and likes list
so for some reason this feature was actually announced on the tumblr engineering blog. interesting choice not to reblog it to the staff or tumblr blog, esp considering they asked for user input on how to implement it, but i suppose considering the response to the last update maybe the replies would be too overwhelming...
so couple of clarifications. comments are disabled as default for primary blogs that have their likes disabled. they are seemingly enabled for all other blogs that have replied to posts
posts you comment on may show on your followers 'for you' page if you leave your replies publically available. they may, in the future, show in on your followers dashboard if your follower goes to their dash settings and enables this. apparently, if your likes are enabled, your followers can already see those on the dash if they've gone into preferences and selected to do so, which I was unaware of, and that seems to be disabled at default, but it's possible i disabled it previously and forgot about it ig
There's a recurring online tendency to aestheticize consensus itself. The imagined future village is full of emotionally compatible people who enjoy communal gardening, conflict resolution circles, acoustic folk music, mutual aid potlucks, and repairing bicycles together at sunset. Which is nice for the people who genuinely enjoy that lifestyle. But plenty of humans are solitary, prickly, obsessive, urban, nocturnal, sensory-seeking, technologically attached, contrarian, novelty-seeking, private, or just plain difficult. Those people do not evaporate after the revolution. They do not get Left Behind while you are Raptured into the Utopia. They become your neighbors.
Strange racists and homophobes on the internet seem to have access to an alternate way cooler version of TV than me. "every white character on TV is in an interracial relationship" "every show has a gay couple in it" "main characters keep having to secretly be bisexual and nonbinary" "every show has gratuitous full frontal nudity" like damn promise?? What channel???
as a black gay person real like where y'all be finding this stuff pass the name
for real though, those DO NOT WATCH OR YOU'LL CORRUPT YOUR CHILDREN lists put out by conservative christian family groups is where I find all the stellar tv shows. Like, shit I didn't know half of those existed, thanks for finding them for me, gonna go watch 30 hours of gay tv now!
I think I know how this works.
For personal context, before I went to the '98 Burning Man festival, one of the things I'd read from a couple different journalists was that "everybody" runs around naked. Which, fine by me, I'd already spent a lot of time in clothing-optional spaces, I'm not fanatic about it but it's nice.
So I got there early and set up a public shade structure on one of Black Rock City's main roads and spent most of each afternoon just watching the crowds go by. I don't remember seeing more than one actually naked person the whole week. I think a topless woman passed by my intersection maybe every half an hour, sometimes once an hour. So why in the hell were people, normally pretty smart and observant writers, coming away with the impression that everybody was naked?
Then I remembered an unrelated passage from Joel Garreau's great book about the history of the outer-ring suburbs, Edge City. Mall developers told him flat-out that they tried to keep the crowds in their malls less than 5% black. Not because they themselves were racist, but because they had determined, experimentally, that if more than 5% of the people in the mall are black, the median white shopper will wrongly describe the mall as at least half black, as mostly black. And not a few of them would describe it, at 6% black, as a mall where "only black people go." Why?
Because, emotionally, they were still upset over the last one when the next one came into view.
Same as the journalists describing Black Rock City as all naked. Same as the right-wing religious culture warriors describing television as entirely mixed-race and gender non-conforming. Not because it's even vaguely true, we know that, but because they haven't gotten over their discomfort over the last one by the time the next one comes along. The anger, not the stimulus, is the part that's continuous, so their mind lies to them that it's "all" the thing they can't get over.

Will never get the casual appropriation of jewish folklore (in particular the tanakh) and then the erasure of jews from their own stories. No, biblical stories don't take place in some vague mythical societies in some vague mythical land. I'm tired of this stupid trope.
every june I get extra defensive about being jewish simply because the queer community and antisemitism are now so inherently intertwined. it's a time of year where we're all supposed to gather and hug and dance in collective joy and unite in our care for each other but that's now impossible when the vast majority of the community explicitly hate jews. I'm not going to write the 10000th post detailing how and why. we've been doing that for years and the community still don't care. all we get is anger and denial and being pointed to tokenistic antizionist jews and being told be more like them. accept it and be quiet. we will not tolerate your existence otherwise
and honestly I don't wanna hear any well-intentioned apologies or stories of allyship. if you're not demanding from a queer org why someone is allowed to sell 'globalize the intifada' art at their pride event then nothing is going to change
antisemite thought they could hide in the comments

I recently came across a post from you stating that itâs âinsidiousâ that Pride events are often scheduled on Saturday which means you as an observant Jews canât go. Why is your schedule more important that everyone elseâs? Why do non Jews, such as myself, need to schedule things according to your schedule?
Are you a religious Christian for whom a Pride parade is considered "work" and therefore something you would not be able to attend were it scheduled on a Sunday? Do you attend Mass on Sunday that takes all day and therefore limits your free time on Sunday? No? So then why is it such a hassle for things to be scheduled on a Sunday? In fact, many workplaces still don't give off Saturday as a given, but they do give off Sunday. Wouldn't you want more people (Jewish or not) to be included?
Jews, whether you like it or not, were and are deeply foundational to the modern LGBTQ Pride and Rights movement. Magnus Hirschfeld was a Jew. Harvey Milk was a Jew. Brenda Howard, the literal "Mother of Pride" was a Jew. They may not have been Orthodox Jews or Shabbat-observant, but Jews of all levels of observance and religiosity deserve to be included. And Jewish religious institutions have been supportive of LGBTQ causes for decades. And even if Jews weren't part of and supporters of the community from the start, Jews are part of the community now and ought to be included, as should people of all ethnicities, races, religions, and nationalities.
But honestly? My views have changed since I made that post that earned it a screenshot and post onto reddit saying "look how crazy and entitled those Jews are". I think the Western LGBTQ movement's exclusion and hatred of Jews now goes far beyond scheduling things on Saturdays. That's just the surface level. Things are far more overt when Jewish interest groups are quite literally banned from Pride events, when Jews are regularly harassed and attacked both off-line and online, when the overwhelming message from the Western LGBTQ world is that an LGBTQ person who is also a Jew is a traitor to their own kind. And it gets worse and worse each year as more LGBTQ people trade in their own safety and welfare and future prospects to spend their time, energy, and money hating Jews. Not only is it disgustingly hateful, it's counterproductive. LGBTQ rights are being attacked and stripped away all around the Western world, but people care more about investing their energy into best excluding Jews, Jews who, LGBTQ or not, would be and are supportive of LGBTQ causes. It's deeply insidious.
My schedule isn't more important than anyone else's. I know that. You know that, and you know that you were reading my post in bad faith. Jews are not the only people who would benefit from important Pride events not being scheduled on Saturdays. People who still have to work on Saturdays would benefit too. And I know you read a tiny snippet of my post and blacked out, because in that post I also mentioned Pride events being scheduled on Jewish holidays (Shavuot often times falls out in June). I think if you are in a community with a large number of Jews who are contributing members, it's only basic decency to be considerate. I am annoyed at conventions that do that same thing, mind you. But "niche interest conventions" are not a broad, umbrella movement the way the Western LGBTQ movement is. A science fiction convention isn't part of the same movement as a WWII history airshow, for example, and they are often not run by the same kinds of people and they are often not even attended by the same kinds of people.
Put on your thinking cap and think for a moment as to why you have such a visceral reaction to a Jew asking to be included.
Can you walk to pride parades?
Depends where you live, depends on the person. For some people, being in a parade, where music is blasting, etc. isn't okay on Shabbat, it's not in the spirit of Shabbat. There's also the issue of how to get there, or even what to do once you're there. If a city doesn't have an Eruv, an Eruv observant Jew wouldn't be able to carry anything. And then there's distance. Some people don't live within walking distance of their local parades.
I just feel like, while they should make SOME events on Sundays, Jews make up a very small percentage of the population, and proportionally so to the LGBTQ community. I think they should make it on the day that works for the most people, and often times that is sadly Shabbat. I donât think that is actively antisemitic, just bad luck. the other stuff, though, is antisemitic
My point is that I don't think it's even more convenient for events to be scheduled on Saturdays, for anyone. Like I said, in many places, people still have work on Saturdays, but Sundays are their days off. That's why it feels specifically spiteful. Because Sunday is a much more convenient day anyway.
I donât think you have any way of knowing what days are more convenient. Additionally, i find it simply beyond belief that they would intentionally schedule pride to spite Jews. That is a logistical and psychological nigh-impossibility, and I cannot imagine how it could be true.
You're right, I have no way of knowing that most Pride events scheduled on Saturdays do say specifically to spite Jews, but it feels that way, and it certainly is not impossible. Especially when many Pride events can and have blatantly excluded Jewish organizations from participating- is it really that unbelievable to think that some people would want to spite Jews?
Additionally, the general culture, not just among Pride events but in general, of hosting important events on Saturday, and not on Sundays when most people don't work anyway, I do believe comes, at least on a certain level, from not wanting to accommodate Jews. Western society was built upon the foundation of spiting and excluding Jews.
for point Two, maybe? But for point one, antisemitism in pride is on a huge rise, but not enough to cause this. Who *benefits* from organizing pride to not be on Sunday? And most people ALSO donât work on Saturday!
Look, and I don't mean this to be patronizing, but your blog description says you're a minor, so you might not have as much experience with certain things as others. That's alright! It's normal to not know everything! But I am telling you that presently it's very normal in many places for people to work on Saturday. In Christian founded countries, many of them have Sunday as some kind of government weekend (not always), but they won't have Saturday. While in the American public school system, for example, Saturday and Sunday make up the weekend, that is not the case for every workplace. Many different workplaces are open on Saturday and expect their employees to come in to work that day. In fact, many are open on Sunday, too! But less so than Saturday. At my workplace, for example, while I personally don't come in on Saturday (even though I've been asked if I could numerous times), the office is open on some Saturdays. This is normal. Especially for service industry jobs, work on Saturday is the norm.
Oh, this definitely belongs on Tumblr.

âBecause the truth is, tech doesnât have an image problem. It doesnât have a message problem. It has an intention problem. Whatâs wrong with the axe murderer who broke into my house is not that he hasnât successfully persuaded me to buy into his narrative. Whatâs wrong is that heâs trying to kill me with an axe. Similarly, when you launch a product thatâs designed to put millions of people out of work, block access to sources of verifiable truth, replace human creativity with slop, and lower the barriers to every sort of atrocity, the problem isnât that you havenât told the public a good story about those things. The problem is that you are trying to do them.â

Since you donât respect my opinion anyway, quit pestering me to fill out a survey after every single consumer experience. I keep wondering who looks at these surveys. Is the CEO sitting in his wood-paneled office, reading each individual response on an old-timey stock ticker? If so, you can keep doing this. If not, I rate this experience zero stars out of infinity.
I have had a lot of evil people say to me that nothing taste as good as skinny feels and every time im like no im pretty sure food tastes really super good actually
