For real. Like, this is something that's been burning in my head these last few weeks. Because, this kind of people are the ones that would go and say, "But this one ship is problematic." "This one is toxic."
And it's like, making art about something that's been deemed "inappropriate" doesn't even mean you're supporting it.
And I hate it, because this "new" wave of puritans is what has now brought us to this situation. Where governments (*cough* Like UK. *cough*) are now using their power to ban what they classify as inappropriate, hiding behind an alleged desire to "protect children" from contents that may harm them. And of course, we can all agree that things like exposing kids to porn, pedophilia and such is objectively wrong. Yes.
But the thing with this kind of law, and giving the people in charge this type of power, will always be a two-edged sword. Because you might believe this will only affect things that are objectively wrong. Such as pedophilia, zoophilia, and many others (things that, by the way, are already illegal). But it won't.
Hypothetically, let's say that yes, fetish content and pornography is finally banned from the face of internet. (Just because you think is wrong.)
What do you think will happen next? That they will just say "Well, that was it" and stop?
Because they won't. Their goal is not to get rid of what you deem wrong, it is to get rid of you, all of you. Smut fics, gone. Angst, done for good. LGBTQ+ themes, say goodbye.
Because that's how Puritanism works, you think they'll let you keep your little gay fanfiction? Of course not, never under their watch, because they only want you to be pure.(White, Christian, and Straight.)
You want to discuss how portraying specific kinds of stuff can be harmful, fine, we can argue about it. But censorship laws are never the way.
