In today’s edition of ‘Boomer Did Whatever The Fuck They Wanted’, I just learned 90% of the Persian poetry quotes out there - especially Rumi and Hafez - are actually fake. Apparently this guy Daniel Ladinsky randomly started to ‘translate’ Persian poetry back in the 1970s despite not knowing a single word of Persian, and when he ran out of bad Victorian translations to plunder, he claimed Hafez appeared to him in a dream as a ‘fountain-shaped God of light’ and told him to write poetry under His name. So Ladinsky started to publish his own poems marketed as - and sold as, to this day - Rumi, Hafez and Sufi mysticism.

Ok so there’s this Disney show called The Owl House, and, as the name implies, it has both owls and gay characters. Naturally, this lead to people making jokes about shipping one of the owls and the Duolingo owl. For a while, that’s all it was, just some fans saying “haha what if these owls were gay?” Somehow, Duolingo eventually heard about this, and started occasionally referencing The Owl House on their Twitter, including in this tweet:

Zekken is posting leaks on Baidu. The leaks are fucking bonkers so far and are unconfirmed, but Zekken has been right before. I thought he was full of shit when he leaked Ellen becomes dove (crying) but... welp.

So far, what’s come out is that Mikasa has a husband (possibly Jean) and a child, Paradis gets destroyed in the end, and the power of the Titans remains. There’s no proof that any of this is true. I really hope it isn’t, but who knows?

What’s so horrifying about this to me is that this is literally Jerry Seinfeld trying to teach John Mulaney how to gaslight his wife.

Look at that dialogue. “She thinks she knows.” He’s trying to get Mulaney to see his wife’s expertise as instead a weird misperception. He’s coaching him to undercut his wife’s confidence in the truth and her own abilities.

And Mulaney replies exactly the right way: “She does know.” He asserts not only that she’s perceiving the world accurately, but that she is an expert at something he’s not good at.

Dudes, don’t take this shit from other dudes. Mulaney isn’t by any means perfect but he aced this. Stand for the truth. Defend women’s objectivity. Promote women’s expertise.
